  1. Great Book Rube! Did you buy that 137 from Roter? Interesting story behind that book and the Pacific coast Collection. Tom
  2. Wow this thread has somewhat slowed. I dug this out for Adam. I don't know if the scan will do this justice. This book has alot of potential, I was surprised by the grade. Tom
  3. I would recommend Bill's book to anyone who wants to enlighten themselves about the early days of fandom. Some of the pictures are amazing. I like the one in the "White House " with the OA to the cover of Flash 120 hanging in the backround. That image has stuck with me for a long time. I think Metro owns that OA now. Heres a 10 center thats not part of the superhero gendre but is a pretty rare book. Tom
  4. Adam: Julie and his crew had their roots in pulps and early SF. The early fanzine you posted was awesome. There was an almost complete collection of Fanzines in the W PA collection from early 1961 foreword. That was some great reading. Tom
  5. I doubt if it was coincidence considering where DC's heirarchy hailed from. Tom
  6. John: Great books. It's nice to see another collector join the fray. Tom
  7. Adam: Do you mean like this 50's 10 cent DC? Tom
  8. Awesome books! It's always nice to see high grade silver DC's Tom
  9. Tim: What I meant was: Now that I have figured out how to do it in a timely manner. Tom
  10. This is fun now I figured out how to post scans. Western Pa Green Lantern 9
  11. Here's one for Tim, Western PA GL 5: Tom
  12. Thanks PF: It was my downfall when I first saw this thread a few years ago. I am trying to complete a mini run of Suspense from 6-12 Cole books. The colors on these Cole covers are phenomenal! When SA started to escalate out of sight these seemed like a real bargain. I have the 7,8,9 and 12. I'll pick up the others in time as they do come up every so often. Best, Tom
  13. Here's one of my favorites from the run. Hope this works. It's been awhile since I posted a scan. Tom
  14. Tim: I'm glad that you read the JLA 24 as that proves the point I was trying to make with Doug. I read most of the PC Marvels that I owned including the X-men 1 9.8. I read only a few of the DC's as I had copies of most of those books. Of course I didn't read them (comics) like I did when I was a kid, but they were read. The OO of the Wetern Penn bought multiple copies of most books so that he would have a reading copy. The TOS 40 Western Penn copy that has shown up on Comiclink at times is the reading copy of that book. As time went on the OO bought many multiples of some of the "Collectors Edition First Issue" comics that Marvel published. The Western Penn books were in laundry bags, stacked, placed in boxes, and stored in a basement. As I have stated before, this information, other than what I saw first hand, was relayed to me by the person that discovered the collection. I was not that person. Best, Tom
  15. Hi Steve: Doug has acquired alot of the books from the PCC, but there are some things that he doesn't know about. In reference to the WP DD 1, I believe that there were multiple copies of mostly all early Marvel books, some were sold in auctions and not listed as a pedigree. Tom
  16. Steve: There are duplicates of DD 1-21 from the PC run. I am sure that most have been resubbed. I believe the WP #1 is a 9.6. Tom
  17. Hi Tim: I don't know where you are getting your info about the Western Pa collection and attributing it to me, but I think that you need to check your facts. This isn't the first time that I've seen something that you have written and . There were multiple copies of Showcase 4 which copy are you referring to. The Showcase run was offered for sale a few years ago minus some of the key books and the condition had deteriorated from handling and storage. That is what I believe I told you, how you manufactured that into your statement is beyond me! Oh, I forgot you're an attorney, that explains it! Best, Tom
  18. Hi All: My addition to the thread. Back in the late 80's I started buying books from a collector who placed adds in the CBG. I purchased a beautiful GL 1 and some others. When I spoke to him on the phone it was as if he and I had been friends forever. Well, we decided to get together and check out each others collections. After looking thru a gazillion Church MLJ's, Full HG runs of every Marvel title, etc I knew I was out of my league so I went home with my tail between my legs. A short while later we talked and he had decided to sell his FF run. I was offered the FF 1 for 3X guide which at the time was around $4K. I passed as I was off to Canada to buy some real comics, DC's. Years later the collection has become known as the Western Penn Pedigree. Who knew, besides it was a Marvel! Tom
