  1. I first met the owner of the WPC through an ad in the CBG. He had 4 books for sale. Showcase 22, 23 and 24 Nm/M for 1K, Green Lantern #1 and Showcase 43. The Showcase GL books were gone when I called but I ended up buying the GL and Showcase 43! The guy that purchased the 22-24 still owns them.
  2. For many of you to young to know, there was a magazine that came out advertising comics and stories about creators and artists called the Comic Buyers Guide. For those of us collectors back in the day it was the best way for us to connect with those selling and wanting to purchase. It was what we had before social media!
  3. I have some GA books that I consigned to the auction and at first I was pissed that Ed didn’t tell me about this collection. Then after I saw the time line I feel pretty good about my books! We shall see.
  4. It’s a great collection that will put a lot of emphasis on golden age books. I believe many of the high rollers buying modern books for exuberant prices won’t be able to resist the hype that Heritage is going to spin and right fully so. I hope it rises the tide on all of the wonderful books not only the Promise Collection but all of the Golden Age! We shall see! Going to be interesting to watch.
  5. Dan, thanks! I think that’s a topic for the Silver Age boards as it may bore the guys here. Maybe in a couple of weeks! I’m going through my collection not many WP’s left but I’m going through the communications I had with the person who discovered it. Was a great read. Same with the PAC Coast. Both were great guys Carl passed away to soon. I feel like I could pick up the phone today and speak with the WPA guy and even though I haven’t spoke to him in 8 yrs or so we could go on like we spoke yesterday.
  6. Amazing that almost 20 years later some are just realizing that there is preferential treatment to grading. Before pressing became so prevalent no one had a clue except for a privileged few how to increase the grades on books! I submitted many silver age pedigree books only to see them receive higher grades. I spoke to Borock about it and he was mum! I thought when CGC was established it was based on a true unbiased rating. Oh well!
  7. Glad the early books aren’t that highly graded!
  8. What would you expect. It’s like having a restaurant that you frequent and spend a lot of money at that you expect to have special seating when you arrive! Just because you decide to show up with a crowd does that make things any different. Good luck!
  9. I think the Owners of the collection will do pretty well. I would guess it is a consignment deal with HA. No sellers premium and a percentage of the buyers fee! Times have surely changed in this what used to be a little hobby when the Western Penn collection sold for 7K and the Pacific Coast for $275k. Of course they were only Silver Age Collections. Now a couple of Copper or Modern books will sell for that much.
  10. Great collection but not even close to the Church books! Quantity but the early keys in grade aren’t there. Just my opinion! It is nice to see that these OO collections are still out there. Where r u guys getting the info of books being released with pictures?
  11. No regrets even though I have let $1000 of dollars pass through my hands but put many in my pocket. Back in the days of Comic Buyers Guide I met many collectors that I still consider friends although some have passed but I have the memories. I had the opportunity to but the Western Penn run of Fantastic 4 1-150 and passed because I’m a DC guy. Owned the X-men 1 that I bought from the OO of the Pacific Coast Collection that later graded 9.8 and sold at Heritage. Carl was a great guy who passed to early from a heart attack.

    Fast track

Sorry if thi has been addressed before but, how do you designate your books to b fat tracted? I didn’t see it on the submission form. Going to submit some books for the first time in about 20 yrs, Thanks
  13. Hi All: I have been very fortunate to have been collecting for 55 years. I've never sold anything on the boards except via private sales. All of the really good stuff is long gone but I have a lot of mid grade books. Some non slabbed pedigrees that are a wonder to behold and smell. I have been fortunate enough to have been involved with the Pacific Coast Collection and the Western Penn. My references include: Tim Hui, Tom Brulatto, Doug Schmell and Steve Borock among others. It's time to try to liquidate what I have left in my collection. Most of the books are DC's as I've never been a big Marvel fan. Thanks, Tom
  14. $49.5K for the 9.4 isn't so bad, but $28K for the 9.2, not so much (unless there are hopes of upgrading it to a 9.4). Both are down from peak prices in their respective grades. Considering the 9.4 was a 9.2 that sold at Heritage the owner did pretty well. Sure didn't think the 9.2 would sell for that kind of money. I figured 22K tops, oh well.
  15. Not exactly a comic but it use to be. The cover is mounted on blue flourescent plexiglass and with the correct lighting it gives a nice 3D effect. I had a LCS at one time and made a bunch of these, different covers, for my customers. Just came across this one and a few others in some boxes. Tom
  16. Jack: Nice run of books. Good Luck with the sale! Tom
  17. Hate to tell you but I'm pretty sure it's the son. I think there is an article in Heritage Magazine, (could be another publication) and his affinity for Flash comics.
  18. One of these days I want a chance if that book ever comes up. It's in my top five and I have held out on the other three 9.4s to have a shot at it. You may get a chance at it if Mr. Forbes decides to sell it. He did sell the OA to 123 so you never know. It is the best 9.4 out there!
  19. Here's one you didn't have! I was surprised when it came back a 9.4. Thought it would be lower because.......... Tom
  20. When I slabbed the run I thought the 139, 140 and 141 all had a shot at 9.8. The colors and structure of those books raw were unbelievable. The 140 was eventually resubbed and did grade 9.8. Tom
  21. this book was posted earlier in this thread last year but I saved the image FantasticFour posted it and according to him, all the 9.6 and 9.8 are white pagers. I don't recall seeing a 9.0 to 9.4 in white pages in the past 2 years...at least not in any of the auctions or Ebay. As far as checking the rest, the only way i know is to use GPA and gets all the cert # and then check them one by one...too much hassle for me I WOW! That is an INSANE book! Thats FantasticFours book?!? It does seem that there is an inordinate amount of ow/w X1's but i cant remember ever seeing a white pages one. I really thought my 8.5 had a chance at white but it came back ow/w. I think on a resub, i would have close to a 50/50 shot at getting white. I could never do it though since theres WAY too high a chance it comes back a 8.0 the 2nd time around. No way imo i could ever get a 9.0 so the grade could only stay the same or go down. Not worth the risk for a PQ bump but seeing that list, it sure would be nice to have a 8.5w! The Xmen 1 PC W pages now resides in a 9.8 holder. You can see the book in Pedigree's Vault. Was slabbed as a 9.6 without the Pacific Coast designation. Schmell managed to convince CGC that this book and others not sold by Pacific Comic Exchange were also part of the Pacific Coast Collection. This book is now in a 9.8 holder? Did the Pacific Coast collection have in some instances multiple copies of certain issues? To answer some questions: The Xmen 1 Wht Pages 9.6 , 9.8 is from the Pacific Coast Collection. There were 2 Xmen 1's in 9.6. One with White Pages the other OW to W. The were multiples of many books purchased from the OO that he did not sell to Rob Roter. I slabbed this X men 1 9.6 - 9.8 and am probably one of the few people to see it out of the holder. I also read the book! The cover of the Xmen 1 is translucent and appears oily, if that makes sense to you all. After I received it I sent it to a friend of mine to look at to see if I should keep it or send it back. When he offerred to buy it, I kept it. The Pacific Coast 9.6 Wht now 9.8 was held side by side with the 9.8 Curator copy. No comparision the Curator is by far a nicer book. If you like Oily, Translucent, Off White Covers and a structually near perfect book. This might be for you. Those scans have been lightened as the cover doesn't look that white in hand from what I remember or it could be the screen on my laptop. Best

  23. Just received the book I purchased from the forum selling thread. Lightning fast shipping, well packaged, Nice book. I don't know how it could get any better. Thanks, Tom
  24. Tim: The books were't listed as WP. Through that ad is how I met the founder of the collection. VIA named the books after they had purchased some of the runs, probably through Sparkle City. I think the WP GL1 would grade 9.0 to 9.4. I'll see if I can't find the color copies I have. I will see if I can find the ads from CBG. Tom
