  1. Hey, this is in Prague! My wife and I saw this on our honeymoon there. Whew, relieved that I could finally comment in this thread. Get it, relieved?
  2. So this all makes me wonder... 1) Do date stamps tend to "cluster" on certain numerical days and/or days of the week (which would give spread over time of course)? What were distribution practices back then? 2) Why did the practice start? What was the practical purpose? 3) Why did it stop? 4) Did sellers tend to date them on the arrival date? The dates they were sold? Unboxed?

  4. Thanks for bumping this thread! Would love a 3/30/72, a 11/16/72, and a 1/17/?. My dad always purchases coin sets for birthdays. I'm going to do comics. (thumbs u
  5. Very nice! Would love a 9.8 for my Steranko collection. #2 at 9.8 recently sold as well.
  6. I have started doing the opposite - keep the keys, make money back from commons at the spring or fall con season (depending on when you buy the books) and then selling the remainder to LCSs. My goal is to get funds back within 6 months while retaining the best books/keys as they continue to increase in value. I used to take the sell the keys and try to max out profits from the rest approach, but since keys/high demand books outpace other books in value growth it does not make sense. This works well with auction lots from Heritage, Clink or other venues also. I have tried to take this approach as a collector because I agree that sitting on keys is much better than sitting on long boxes of drek. If I had more access and time to hunt down collections, I would look more towards turnover. This isn't so much a business model as an ecological strategy. It's called "r Selection" vs. "K Selection", but don't get me started . . . Just read up on that with wikipedia, really interesting, but makes me wonder how that applies to a question of economics? I mean, I can see how you'd look at it in parallel, but turning books for dollars versus propagating genes. Anyhow, getting OT, I suppose. "P
  7. Thanos would win in love and war.
  8. I couldn't remember what oceanavekid was in the hot seat for, but ya, that's pretty outside the spirit of PIF. Rather self-serving, that.
  9. Wait. For a regular #1? $50? My LCS still has them for cover. I bought 1 copy today to read, but I may go back for the rest. Might be a reprint? All four prints so far of #1 are identical... If not, go back and get them all. I just checked my copy. It's the 4th print. Thought I struck gold. Ya, 4th print just came out. It's what got me interested.
  10. I'm late to the title but enjoying it. Krighton hooked me up with some goodies. Good stuff.
  11. This is the best I can do for you. This was just the beginning and there are many more stories to tell. Hustrucked Eh, he just has poor social skills. That excuses everything, right?
  12. And he's not alone. I thought this one had been thoroughly drummed out of town.
  13. Had a great transaction with Jeremy and finally got my hands on a Marvel Premiere 15. Thank you, sir!
  14. Ya, I thought about that after I had caught some heat for offering to let someone else pick up a book in Dale's thread. Not the first instance of inconsistency on this point.
  15. And, to make things perfectly clear....he clarifies that he doesn't want to deal with our krap... No, he just wants to deal our books. But only because he wasn't in the mood. Otherwise, I suppose, he'd go guns a-blazing. He sells comics to people. That automatically makes him a stand up guy to lots of boardies!! I've checked out his site before. Won't bother to again. Not interested in giving my business to someone who behaves this way.
  16. Glad you know the whole story. If you did, you'd keep your "ridiculous" comments to yourself.... If you (or any of the other posters) have something you want to say, send a PM. Otherwise, you have no right to comment in something that doesn't involve you. With that attitude, you're missing the point of this entire thread.

  18. Oh dear, me again. This time, it was the Dr. Stranges I couldn't resist. Pretty soon, I'll be tithing Bob to keep a steady flow of these gorgeous books into my collection. Thank you, sir! People, feel confident in your dealings with Bob. Straight up good person to deal with.
  19. Hey, that's awesome! Thanks for sharing.
  20. Don was easy to deal with when I picked up a Strange Tales 156, he shipped promptly and book arrived safe and sound. Thank you very much, sir!
  21. Post this in grading and restoration. Some folks there will see it and give some valuable input. Someone familiar with the printing process of that era can make some intelligent insight.
  22. I think this book has the potential to get into JIM 83 territory. The good doctor will never have the recognition that Thor has. Having a mythological analogue behind your comic book character is a bit of a leg up, not to mention Avengers affiliation. Still, Dr. Strange is widely loved with the hobby and has a hand in so much of the Marvel universe.
