  1. My take is more in line with Gator's- panic buying by those looking to get in to a nice looking mid-grade copy before prices escalate any higher. We've seen similar with GA books like pre-Robin Tecs (something loufine has pointed out on a few occasions). -J.
  2. Only in your little corner of the boards. Any-who, question asked and answered. You're welcome. -J.
  3. Yes I meant Vincent. Simple error, rather irrelevant in fact, since you still knew who I was talking about, and the process I described he uses in reporting to GPA is in fact, accurate, which was the point of that part of the post now, wasn't it. Keep trying though, maybe you'll get me one day. -J.
  4. Are we still talking about those two mid grade copies that sold in the CC auction a while back, as if they had much (or anything) to do with the prices we are seeing now ? They were but one step in the road.... Again, the market was spiking a year before that auction, beginning with the $450k+ sale of a 9.4. That's where it started, and higher grade copies have indeed been coming out more regularly since then, and pretty much all have uniformly scored new highs within their respective grades. And why aren't the CC sales on GPA yet? Give it a few months, Josh reports manually to them, the data is not automatically extracted as it is through Heritage, eBay, etc. -J.
  5. This will now undoubtedly push up some bids on that 6.0 selling on Heritage..... -J.
  6. Awesome pick up. I'm looking forward to finally acquiring my first piece of OA from him soon. -J.
  7. The Mattina is certainly nice. And this cover has certainly been homaged, imitated and reprinted on numerous occasions already But most collectors prefer the original of something. -J.
  8. I'm squinting to see, but it looks like they were signed in March. -J.
  9. Sweet haul! That Venom cover is simply -J.
  10. Indeed. "Time will tell" about everything won't it. In the meantime, it has been telling about VenoMJ for over five years now. And speaking of time, you're right, I bet the buyer of this 9.6 copy is kicking himself for not grabbing the one for $2k that sold just a week and a half earlier: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-man-678-Super-Rare-Venom-Variant-CGC-9-6-/152522260900?hash=item23830901a4:g:FuoAAOSwj85YNwff -J.
  11. Very nice. That's definitely a cover that looks better virgin. -J.
  12. Looks like she's still chugging along.... A 9.6 just closed on a no reserve for just under $2500. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spiderman-678-Mary-Jane-Venom-Variant-CGC-9-6-looks-like-9-8-PGX-CBCS-/122478677183?hash=item1c844c4cbf:g:1DQAAOSwR29ZCq2t -J.
  13. CGC usually only notes it when there is something substantively different about the book beyond it simply having a hideous grocery store looking bar code on it. Voldemort is only doing because they're trying anything at this point to increase their tiny market share. -J.
  14. Awesome book, I've only seen a few of these with the NDS insert. And no they aren't the same as MJ inserts. They actually pre-date MJ inserts, were only used a few years and are much rarer than MJ inserts especially in 8.0+ condition. I have a 9.2 with an NDS insert so I can attest that CGC definitely has it wrong on your label. You may want to consider sending it back so they can correct it. -J.
  15. Very lovely. Gotta love his use of pastel (or is it charcoal?) and marker on that red paper. Man this guy could probably make my armpit sweat look good on a piece of paper lol. -J.
  16. Are you ? That was one of the first things I asked you (although admittedly, somewhat indirectly) at the very beginning of this cluster funkadelic. -J.
  17. Reprints are still considered reprints (although some reprints also themselves have actual variants). People are usually going after them simply because they are more "rare" than the first prints. Whether or not this current niche collecting or mentality will hold long term or becomes more widespread remains to be seen. I personally do not purchase reprints unless I absolutely love the cover. But I won't pay much more than $50 for one even if I do love the cover. Because at the end of the day, if you're buying a first appearance or a #1 issue of something as a reprint, you're not actually getting that first appearance or that #1 really, are you? You're getting the reprint of it. -J.
  18. You can call it whatever you want. My only purpose was to explain the various processes whereby that can result and how, on many of those occasions, it has nothing to do with the "PQ" CGC puts on the label and certainly has nothing to do with "heat" or "fire"- an obvious built in, and incorrect assumption- one makes when they toss about descriptors like "toasty". -J.
  19. Apart from this statement being patently false on its face, the fact that you think (or you think I think) 2 dudes on an internet chat board will sway the worldwide market for AF's is ludicrous. Just as it is equally ludicrous for someone to believe that someone's repeated misuse of a certain word to denigrate a book will influence anything in a negative way. The book will sell for what it sells for. "The market" doesn't care what any of us think or say either way about a particular book. Something else I think I've actually stated quite specifically on multiple occasions. -J.
