  1. I used to be a 'price it at the top of GPA' person. I no longer am. As we discussed earlier, I thought those two numbers were outliers but hey, I'm wrong sometimes too. I don't know, Roy. A 4.5 just sold on the boards for 13K. Indeed. The 5.0 that sold for the $13k+ on eBay during the holiday season looks to be the outlier at this point. -J.
  2. Yeah I've noticed that people have been liking to poop on some pretty amazing books around here lately. -J.
  3. .......And the listing already got ended by the seller on the blue label. Probably an immediate off eBay deal worked out. -J.
  4. When was the last time a 9.8 SS copy sold ?? You may want to jump on that ... -J.
  5. I don't pass judgement for other people's collection, that's not my place, you collect what you like and how you want to and I'll do the same It's just my standard for my modern book collection. Jerome 9.8 snob. -J.
  6. Don't worry, they are going to ship a $150+ book First Class. It's already $225+. -J. I asked the seller to post close ups of the spine. I'll have to pass on this one because of the top-left corner. Jerome There's an outside chance it could still pull a 9.8 with that. I have 9.8's that have one light spine stress like that. A 9.8 is not a perfect book. -J. Will this hit 300+ raw At this point I'd be surprised if it went for less than $400. -J.
  7. It was relisted and then marked "sold" immediately at the same price. Must have been some kind of administrative move by the seller. -J.

  9. I was going to say that this book looked like it was heating up again until a 7.5 just sold for $600 less than a 7.0 did last week. -J.
  10. +1 The more I see the less I want to see. And Margot needs to do some squats. Will probably have to wait for the reviews before I plunk down $50 for a couple of tickets to check it out. -J.

  12. None taken! But at least it looks nicer than any of the other copies on ebay right now. Oh wait.... -J.
  13. Someone just listed a nice looking raw ASM 688... http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-688-SCOTT-CAMPBELL-VARIANT-RARE-HIGH-GRADE-/221990415065?hash=item33afa8ead9:g:CTUAAOSwoydWkWVc -J.
  14. It's so nice to have a peaceful and friendly conversation about a super cool, ultra rare modern variant. -J.
  15. ^^ That's actually part of the art. It's looking 9.0/9.2 to me with a press. But I still agree with your $500 price estimate for that raw copy. -J.
  16. It looks better than that to me. He's right most of the defects are pressable. The only one that isn't is that little dog ear on the back. But even that could be significantly minimized. It probably could be a 9.0-9.2 as he says in his ad. -J.
  17. Astronomically small They (the ASM 546 "Book Market") do seem consistently available on ebay. -J. Define consistent? How many 10? 20? I am not looking for an argument here, just saying I look for all types of hard to find variants for both fun and profit. I haven't seen this book in person ever. Not an a shop or a convention. I am not saying its not available its just difficult to find. I just thought I would share a book not seen very often. Not looking for an argument either. Tough variants are my thing too. Glad you were able to find a copy that you like. Congrats. -J.
  18. Another one (raw copy this time) just put up on ebay (bumping the "appreciation thread"): http://www.ebay.com/itm/Uncanny-X-Men-510-SDCC-Sketch-Variant-Cover-J-Scott-Campbell-Very-Rare-/151936084073?hash=item236018a869:g:R1oAAOSwJkJWh0uX -J.

  20. Thanks but I really don't count the Det 33, 35 or 37 to be in this group. These are comics that I believe require a fanboy like us to appreciate and spend silly amounts on. Yes on my Cap 1, Bat 1 and Det 31. Forget Action 1 and Det 27 those are on another planet and IMO have less room to go up in value. Some examples of what I'm talking about are unrestored low grade Superman 1, Action 7, Bat 1, Cap 1, Det 31, All-Star 8 etc. Bats origin. Most influential hero origin story in the history of comics. -J.
  21. Sold. Congrats to buyer and seller. How many unrestored Bat 1's even exist? My guess would be 500 range. Even if 1000 exist that is still low supply. Forget the comic community on this and a few other comics from this period. I feel a lot of people/investors outside comic collectors will continue to see these core group of key low supply comics as a solid investment causing prices to escalate monthly instead of yearly. In 5 years I bet any Bat 1 .5-1.8 with nice eye appeal will be $50K minimum. Looking at your sig line, you certainly appear to have most of the bases covered. -J.
  22. It's nice to see a positive comment about this book. I know comments on the internet skew towards the negative and people are free to share their opinions and all that. But I'm always a little aghast at some of the posts about some big books in auctions over the years. And I know I've probably been guilty of it myself at one time or another. Are the comments fair game? Sure. Reasonable? Often. Do they make a difference to the final prices realized? I don't know. Maybe sometimes. But I usually think, "Hey, this is somebody's book and he or she is trying to sell it for as much as possible." And if I'm not a fan of the book or grade, what's the point of me posting that in a public forum? I just won't bid on it. Again, I know people are free to share their opinions and the point of this board is to discuss funny books, good and bad. Though it seems to me, there's usually gleeful rush to post dismissive comments about the books. I guess I just wish for a little more restraint. I've been the biggest cheerleader of the book since I saw it. It's going to do gangbusters regardless of anything any of us say good, bad or indifferent. If I could even remotely afford to wade in that pool my one and only bid would be for $501,501 and then I'd sit back and enjoy the ride. -J.
