  1. Nice ! Where'd you stumble on that ? -J.
  2. All my hope in thinking you bought it for me for Christmas just went out the window. Wasn't me who bought it. -J.
  3. Did anybody on here finally pop that green label Batman 608RRP, 9.8 for $3k? http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-608-DC-2002-MINT-CGC-9-8-NM-MT-Retailer-Edition-Signed-by-Jim-Lee-/380689010293?hash=item58a2d54e75:m:mfsGzsVkVgBVEnu5AoC67Dw -J.
  4. Avengers 83 isn't the first appearance of a character, just the first published depiction of a character's likeness - as portrayed by an impostor. You might as well just go full Ween. Really now, you haven't even read the issues you're discussing, have you? In all 3 of the first appearances, the Enchantress is the one to give the Valkyrie's likeness/personality/powers to each character. In Avengers 83 she used the likeness on herself against the Avengers. In Hulk 142, she used the likeness on Samantha Pennington to attack the Hulk. In Defenders #4, she again used it on Barbara Norriss to help her with the Defenders. What in the world is the difference? Avengers 83: 1st time Valkyrie's name is used? Check. First Valkyrie's likeness? Check. Prominent cover appearance? Check. Valkyrie's looks exactly the same as in every appearance over the next 30-40 years? Check. The same would be true then with 1st SA appearance of Captain America in Strange Tales 114.. Strange Tales 114: 1st time Cap's name is used in the Silver Age? Check. First Cap's likeness? Check. Prominent cover appearance? Check. Cap's looks exactly the same as in every appearance over the next 30-40 years? Check First appearance and "first SA appearance" are not the same thing? Check. -J. Actually I do consider ST 114 as the 1st SA Cap appearance. Point being? Everyone already knew (or should have known) who captain America was when they "brought him back" in the SA. There was therefore context to the "imposter appearance" in ST 114. The same cannot be said for Valkyrie which was actually a first appearance of the character, irrespective of the subsequent ret-con. -J. It does not matter. If there was a Valkyrie appearance in the Golden Age, we would have the same discussion except to discuss which comic is the first SA appearance of Valkyrie, same as Cap in ST 114 vs Avengers 4 The better comparison is the one made to Domino in NM 98, which is actually that character's first appearance as well, irrespective of the subsequent narrative ret-con. "First SA appearances" of characters is a generally superficial means to give an appearance of an already existing and established character value in this hobby (unless the character has been completely revamped and re-imagined to the point of essentially being a new character with just an inherited name, eg the Flash and GL in the Showcase run). -J.

Not that I give two whits about the character, but that would be what they call in legal parlance "a distinction without a difference". (thumbs u -J.
  8. Can you explain the duplicate listing of the same book? And subsequent ending of the duplicate book within 20 minutes of the other listing selling? Do you mind saying when these duplicate listings went up on Ebay? When a consignor updates the price on a book, our eBay poster ends the previous listing and creates a new one. Price changed, old listing ended, new listing at the new price created, book sold. It's a normal sequence of events. In this case the buy it now was hit 20 minutes after the listing went up. That's quick, but not especially unusual, particularly if somebody is looking at stuff sorted by newest listed. The buyer purchased four high-end Bat books from us as part of this order, with the books belonging to three different consignors. The buyer is in another country. If the buyer's just trying to put a data point into GPA, then he paid $20+ of international shipping and bought four pretty substantial books in order to do so. Thanks very much. Above and beyond what can be expected in the way of information. I think a couple of us were just surprised by what is a huge outlier sale. It's still weird that it would change price and sell the same day. But, based on what you've stated, it appears to be genuine. Thanks again. . I still smell a turd. http://www.comiclink.com/itemdetail.asp?back=%2Fsearch%2Easp%3Fwhere%3Dsell%26title%3Ddark%2Bknight%2Breturns%2B4%26x%3D0%26y%3D0%26ItemType%3DCB&id=1077490 -J.
  9. Just like with Captain America in ST 114. Yes exactly. ST 114 with Acrobat disguised as Captain America hardly makes people look at it as a first silver age appearance. VS Avengers 4 there is no comparison. Though in this case the imposter is a heretofore unknown character, in Av 83; I predict the Hulk book will take off more. Also factor in the quality of the Hulk cover, compared to the Av 83. The cap comparison in ST 114 is not a comparison at all. Cap was an already introduced and established character decades before that book came out. And NM 98 is also the first appearance of Domino (since that actually is that character's first appearance, regardless of the narrative ret-con/bait and switch that was pulled a year later). -J.
  10. Can you explain the duplicate listing of the same book? And subsequent ending of the duplicate book within 20 minutes of the other listing selling? Do you mind saying when these duplicate listings went up on Ebay? Yeah there's definitely something off here. And real sale or not it's still a nonsensical outlier that I would be very surprised represented a new price point for this extremely common book. -J.
  11. That ebay seller looks awfully familiar.... -J. Not a credible seller? There is/was another listed for over $4000 on ebay last I looked. I had received a few very legit offers on my 9.8 through Heritage recently, although nowhere near $4000+. Yes that seller has been known to shill books before on ebay. -J.
  12. They don't segment them out but I do believe they will note if the book had a Mark Jewelers insert just as they would other variants of note. thanks, I appreciate the info. I just checked GPA for my completed sale and just as an FYI there is no note that it has the insert so unless I am missing something you would have to click on the cert for each sale to see which had the insert. GPA does not yet parse out books with inserts, but they may have to start.... -J.
  13. Whoops must have clicked the wrong entry on the smart phone! GPA 90 day is about $120 bucks higher than a #3 at $268 (prior to this "sale"). Still quite obviously either a shill or an egregious outlier. -J.
  14. Uh yeah, no. While mycomicshop itself is a reputable company, shillers love using its ebay listings to artificially pump up prices of books all the time. All the time. -J. ...or maybe a book that doesn't have 400 CGC 9.8s that happens to be around 30 years old, is considered some of Frank Miller's best work, and is called the most important battle in comic's history by Comic Book Resources is finally being recognized for all of the things it is. I know its no ASM #678 (to you) but to some of us, it happens to be the book that settled years of arguments. Who would win ? Ask MCS if it sold. They are fellow bordies and I'm sure they'd share the info. Either way, its a book on the move. ...or it was just another shilled MCS "sale" via ebay. A problem acknowledged both by Conan (of MCS) and GPA on these boards. And here's your dead give away right here. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-The-Dark-Knight-4-DC-1988-GRADED-CGC-9-8-WHITE-/272003284940?hash=item3f54a8bfcc:g:L~sAAOSw42JWDWml And 340+ copies (and counting) of a book in a 9.8 is still a whole lot of 9.8's. -J. Funny. I have this on search and receive emails from ebay every day. That book has never popped up. My bet is it will sell now that you've pointed it out. Someone should thank you. As for the number of 9.8s, demand will decide if that is too many or few. That represents about one fifth of a book like Saga #1. With almost 1700 copies in 9.8, that book was selling for more than TDKR #4 as recently as last year. This may or may not be a $600 book. No one knows. What we do know is that it's on a steady climb and worth mentioning as a book that is heating up. The entire miniseries is undervalued imo. In this day and age, the 1st female Robin might be an overlooked book too. Take a good look at the label on the book in the link. It needs to be corrected, and probably scares away potential buyers. good catch. that label probably does confuse folks. Here's another reason why that MCS "sale" on ebay is either shilled or a horrific outlier: http://comics.ha.com/itm/modern-age-1980-present-/batman-the-dark-knight-returns-4-dc-1986-cgc-nm-mt-98-white-pages/a/121539-14236.s?ic4=GalleryView-Thumbnail-071515 ($167.00 from two weeks ago) -J. Because it isn't possible that a low sale is the outlier? All signs point to "no" since GPA 90 day is $143. Nobody paid $600+ for that book. It's a fake "sale" and it looks to have been scrubbed/not reported by GPA as well. -J.

  17. I noticed this one has the "ENDED" banner on it. Does that mean it just ended or did it actually sell? Most of the ones I've seen that actually sell have the "SOLD" banner on them. Never mind. I see that it sold as a Buy it Now. (thumbs u -J.
  18. Looks like a 9.0 ASM 129 with an MJ insert just went for $1600, about the price of the average 90 day of a 9.4 and about $500 (and 30%) more than the 90 day average for a 9.0: http://www.ebay.com/itm/AMAZING-SPIDER-MAN-129-2-74-CGC-VF-NM-9-0-1ST-APP-PUNISHER-MARK-JEWELERS-/381150348936?hash=item58be54c688:g:hrgAAOSwstxU11iw -J.
