  1. Sounds like a cross between "The Little Mermaid" and "Splash". -J.
  2. Chris Hemsworth, Chris Pratt, Chris Evans... man lots of Chris's... Henry Cavill... Those guys are "stars"? They're just dudes who have been lucky enough to get cast in some successful movies that would have been successful regardless. -J. No, that's my point exactly. Those dudes aren't stars, and yet they're in comic movies that are very successful and entertaining... He missed it. As long as the -script is strong and the tie in with BvS then the JLA flicks for the character works, the movie will do well whether JM is a star or not. No , he missed it. No such movie can be concocted around this character. And the MOS -script was "strong"? What ? -J. the argument you're making here is different than the ones you made earlier... But I understand why Aquaman gets no love, which is why I'm doubly rooting for this movie! The thrust of my original post was that because Momoa is no star and nobody cares about James Wan or how much money Furious 7 made, this movie about "Aquaman" (in quotes, because whatever Momoa was supposed to be dressed as in that one picture sure as hell was not Aquaman) has no chance of being anything other than laughable and a waste of both money and fan goodwill IMO. Marvel got lucky with GOTG. They are probably pushing their luck with Ant-man. And DC ain't no Marvel when it comes to making decent super hero movies as it is. -J.

  5. Was a little surprised to see this particular 9.4 go this high in the CC auction : http://www.comicconnect.com/bookDetail.php?id=589773 -J.
  6. Jason Momoa isn't a star and nobody has gone to see a movie just because of the director since Alfred Hitchcock. I can't believe anybody actually thinks this is a good idea. This movie is going to tank. -J.
  7. Oddly, I don't disagree with much of what you say, I just disagree with your conclusions. -J.
  8. I agree that the term "key" is bandied about too freely. But a "key" isn't just limited to first appearances. A "key" can also be a classic cover, a first told origin story, characters meeting the first time, the "death" of a character, a significant costume change, the start of a major storyline, an artist or writer's first/last work in a run, etc. Peter marrying MJ was as significant of turning point for Peter Parker as when Gwen was killed. Fans were (and many still are) repulsed when they ret-conned the whole thing and split Peter from MJ. Hence the "Renew Your Vows" storyline. -J.
  9. to people who care about FF, yes. But seemingly many more people CURRENTLY care about Spiderman than the FF. But the singleness of Peter Parker was a huge factor in spidey's character for the first 20 years. the Sue/Reed marriage was more or less just a natural progression of an existing relationship. So it had less of an impact, and signaled less of a change. Yup. (thumbs u -J.
  10. most likely.. if a book has a staying power of 30 years and is selling for 350.00 in 9.8.. something happened in that book to justify those trends and yeah,, you can bet that spideys wedding was distinct from surrounding issues +1 -J.
  11. I love coming here and getting compliments from newbs on my age Now, if only you were 50 years younger and of opposite gender It may not be a "high dollar 'key'" (yet), but Peter and MJ's wedding would certainly have to be considered a "key" moment in Spider-Man lore. In that regard, it is a "key". The book being tough in high or 9.8 grade can very easily give it steam along with the "Renew Your Vows" event and whatever comes out of that. That is precisely what triggered me to finally seek out a high grade copy for myself. (thumbs u -J.
  12. The seller posted some great pictures. I think most copies have similar spine issues like that. It would explain why you're lucky to get a 9.6 on one. -J.
  13. worldwide, i never speak about the US market as it doesnt matter, all that matters is the actual total a movie makes, versus its budget this isn't accurate. the studios cut of a US box office $ is 55%, the studios cut of a China box office $ is 25%, the studios cut of other int'l box office $'s is 40%. all box office $'s are not created equal. Rule of thumb is a movie needs to make 3 times its budget worldwide just to break even. -J.
  14. This book seems to be showing signs of life again. -J.
  15. The problem being (for me at least) was that no one was/is selling any 9.8's when I wanted one. I was wondering if there was a reason for that. If they were being hoarded or the book is "heating up" as it were (because of "Renew Your Vows"). -J.
  16. That's another nice one to have it in. Make sure you post it when you get it. Congrats on that grade! -J.
  17. Nice. That's a hot book to have it in. But.... Pics, or it didn't happen. -J.
  18. I actually looked into this and there is no difference in prices and one is no rarer than the other. The one that MCS evidently sold is the definition of an "outlier". The auction results on heritage bear this out. I actually prefer the Peter Parker version as I find the Spider-Man version doesn't really make sense in context . -J
  19. Im no expert, but I have never had problems selling this book for 40 sometimes 50 raw in NM in the past year or so.. Great investment book in high grade (thumbs u Thanks for the response! (thumbs u -J.
  20. Here's a question for the experts posting in this thread... I went looking for a Peter Parker version of ASM Annual #21 and saw that there are absolutely no 9.8's on ebay of either cover. I subsequently found one on Heritage, but... Are people hoarding this book for some reason? Perhaps the "Renew Your Vows" event? -J.
  21. Asking prices are getting expensive but no one is paying them. As long as #1 and #8 can be had for a few hundred dollars in a 9.8, #4 is at best a $200 book. (thumbs u -J. It's Lucifer TV show speculation. I had a ton of hits on my copy when the show was announced. I hear the show is nothing like the comic or the character. -J.
