  1. That rat chewed "4.0" did not have the best colors or eye appeal and appears to have sold for a 3.0 price, which is what it was originally graded at, if I'm not mistaken. Or at least, that's the highest grade I would give that. This will be confirmed if/when the current 3.5 at auction sells for more... -J.
  2. According to the Marvel liaison at Diamond Distributors, only one case pack of the ASM 667 Dell'otto was printed. At that time one case pack of a standard pages issue of ASM held about 200-250 copies. -J.
  3. To be clear, the actual first appearance is fantastic four #1 (1961). But fandom, which is pretty darn authoritative, does not mention anything about UF 4 in any of its notes for the "first appearance" of "the maker" (Reed Richards). https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Reed_Richards_(Earth-1610) -J.
  4. I saw that sale and noted it mainly because it was about twice as much as what another 9.8 sold for a few weeks before. Really need to update this list soon. -J.
  5. Still cant believe how young that dude is, relative to his artistic development. -J.
  6. It is a trifling sum. It also wouldn't be the first time someone sold a fake or a probable fake for a small amount of money either. After considering it further, the fact that he is so spot on with the pricing on ALL the other, lesser books, evidently knows what those are worth, but is so spectacularly off with the only one that matters, is the final nail in the coffin with me. -J.
  7. I can only speculate like any one else. Ebay isn't exactly a bastion of integrity. My guess, the seller sold a fake. -J.
  8. So he knows a 606 sketch campbell is worth maybe $100 raw but is clueless that a 667 Dell'otto is worth $6000 raw? Funny how he seems to more or less nail the pricing on all his other books but that one, ain't it ? Lol -J.
  9. I considered that possibility as well, until I looked for his ASM 648/678/688 and did not see any of those, which means he either did not have those(meaning he was not a comprehensive ASM variant collector), or knew to parse those out. And if he knew to parse those out, he would also have known he had a sparkling copy of the most valuable book printed in the last 35 years or so, on his hands lol. Also, the fact that he knew enough about the book to keyword "Dell'otto", is a red flag to me. The probability that someone would know about "Dell'otto" and would know nothing about his most famous and valuable work, nearly ten years on, seems just this side of nil to me. Just like all those people getting those AF 15's on Ebay for $300. -J.
  10. Lol given that there are two other listings on Ebay for around $15k, it's pretty hard to swallow the notion that A) the copy is real, and/or B) the seller did not know what he had. It's getting to the point where I wouldn't even suggest someone try buying one of these raw. -J.
  11. Perhaps CC just hasn't been notified to remove it from their site yet. (?) -J.
  12. Wow very pretty. Are you nominating these for the list ? -J.
  13. When and where did the artist and writer say that, exactly? (And FTR, that still wouldn't stop it from being an Easter egg.) -J.
  14. More like an Easter egg. But it's still a first appearance (of the characters' likeness at the very least). -J.
  15. Holy cow what a glorious after thought lol. -J.
  16. Different Torch and Namor wasn't a Timely creation. -J.
  17. Books from 1991 are considered "modern"? And relative to their respective print runs, a case could still be made for walking dead 1- notwithstanding the fact that it actually is a "modern". -J.
  18. Agreed. Very cool image. Great collection you have. -J.
  19. Well that is a comprehensive list lol. So if you want to be super duper comprehensive, don't forget X men Blue #21, when other unnamed symbiotes bonded to the X men in the same storyline that Killer Thrill bonded to her un-named symbiote. -J.
  20. Hello All! I thought this might be a fun topic to start up. I have been a fan of Venom and the evolving symbiote mythology for as long as I remember. Truly one of the most imaginative and interesting concepts to spin out of the Marvel Universe. Since first fully appearing in ASM 300, Venom has had his own- ahem- legion of fans and the fan base has only grown over the ensuing decades, and recently exploded worldwide with his own solo feature film that turned into a bona fide blockbuster. With at least two more movies set to come out, the sky is the limit for how this charter and the world of symbiotes can go. And with Donny Cates running around the publishing arm of Marvel, expanding the universe and taking it to new and fresh places, it would seem that we are at a new beginning of exploring the Klyntar race. As such, isn't it time to have a thread dedicated to our symbiote friends (and foes!)? I figure the Modern section would be the proper forum for this since, other than Venom (1988), symbiotes are by and large a modern phenomenon, and other than Venom, all have first appeared in the Modern era. What's the purpose of this thread? Why to discuss all things Symbiotes, of course! Favourite and current plot lines (and not so favourite, if you like), favourite symbiote characters/hosts upcoming books and stories, Venom/Symbiote movie news, and yes, comic book speculation. What symbiote do you think will be the next character/book to heat up? What's hot now? And what thread would be worth anything without pictures? Let's see those symbiote books, those rare Venom/Venomized variants, those classic McFarlane/Bagley covers, the rare/obscure symbiote odds and ends that nobody knows about, those bad axx statues and figurines in your display cases, your original covers/art, even your own personal artwork if you should feel so inclined, etc. There's certainly a lot out there to hunt and chase down, let this be the place you show off your symbiote acquisitions. So let's get consumed, shall we? I'll start things off with my own personal little labour of love- something I've been working on for a little over three years now. Below is the first appearance of every unique/named 616 Symbiote bonded to a sentient host, starting with Venom, in a 9.8 slab and, as you can see, running across multiple titles over the decades. Meaning, only symbiotes in the 616, only the symbiotes that took on a unique/new name/identity once bonded to a host, and only with their original host (example, Venom has had multiple hosts over the years, only ASM 300 is represented here, his first appearance with his first host; similarly, Mania went to Lee Price and became "Maniac", Venom went to Flash Thompson and became "Agent Venom", only the first appearance with the original host is what this run is about; this run also does not include the times characters got a symbiote but did not assume a new character identity as a result- I think you guys get the gist by now lol). When applicable I got the highest ratio variant that was available for the book. If I did not like the highest ratio variant, I got the next highest that I did like. I did not pursue any store exclusives or reprints, first prints only. Anyhow, with that said, here are all my symbiote babies.... Row 1, Starting from Left: ASM 300 5/88 (Venom), FF 360 1/92 (Dreadface), ASM 361 4/92 (Carnage), Venom Lethal Protector 4 5/93 (Scream), Venom Lethal Protector 6/93 (Phage, Lasher, Riot, Agony) Row 2: Venom Along Came a Spider 1 1/96 (Hybrid), Venom Seed of Darkness -1 7/97 (Krobaa), Venom vs. Carnage #2 (Toxin), True Believers 1 9/08 (Payback), ASM 569 variant 10/08 (Anti-Venom) Row 3: X men Kingbreaker 2 3/09 (Zzzxx), Carnage 5 8/11 (Scorn), Venom 38 9/13 (Mania), Carnage 10 9/16 (Raze), Venom 1 7/18 1:100 virgin variant (Grendel, Tyrannosaurus) Row 4: Venom 3 8/18 1:25 variant (Knull), Venom First Host 3 11/18 1:25 variant (Sleeper), Silver Surfer Black 2 9/19 1:25 variant (Void Knight), Absolute Carnage 4 12/19 1:200 virgin variant (Legion) Hat tip @Lethal_Collector -J.
  21. The last signed one of those went for a lot less than that just last week. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hawkeye-Vs-Deadpool-0-Alamo-Con-Variant-9-8-SS-CGC-Signed-by-Carlo-Barberi/254544804967?hash=item3b440d7c67:g:ceAAAOSw6yBecr7v And the price just paid for this copy is quite a bit more than the price paid for another one back in March. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Hawkeye-Vs-Deadpool-0-1st-Spider-Gwen-1st-Jane-Foster-Thor-Cameo-CGC-9-8-2014/133034647168?hash=item1ef97b9e80:g:YDsAAOSwIYdcacnw -J.
  22. I don't think that has been established one way or another actually. Yes, they are in a group of cosplayers but the characters did not exist at the time so how could they be cosplayed? Also, it is a three panel appearance and in the last panel Spider-gwen looks right at the reader. If anything, I would call it an Easter egg. But at the very least it is the first appearance of the likeness of both of those characters. -J.
  23. Hawkeye v Deadpool #0 nearing $200 in a 9.8? https://www.ebay.com/itm/HAWKEYE-vs-DEADPOOL-0-CGC-9-8-NM-Near-Mint-Alamo-City-Convention-Comic-Con/362966306563?hash=item54827a4f03:g:K9cAAOSwRq5ejr6A -J.
