  1. Kind of hard to tell from these pics. I do see some of the back cover issues common to the book though- colour rubs and a few spine ticks. But not anywhere near as bad as some others I've seen. You might be spot on with your 9.0/9.2 estimate. Congrats again on the find. Did the guy have anything else like this in those long boxes? -J.
  2. No. There is also nearly a decade of established rarity on the secondary market, only a handful of sales and just a few dozen copies ever graded. My conversation with the Marvel liaison merely confirmed years of what I and others had previously estimated. And, with all due respect to you (and no respect to the same career trolls already crawling out of the woodwork here)... I don't care if you believe it, or not. -J.
  3. Nice find. You should check Ebay/GPA to see what genuine copies of these go for. (*spoiler alert- A lot. Lol) Post some pictures of the back and front ourside the bag if you would like an assessment of condition. -J.
  4. Of course the number is right. Straight from the horse's mouth and backed up by nearly a decade of established rarity on the secondary market. The "documentation" is with Diamond, and was communicated by the Marvel liaison to me. Of course he wasn't going to email me something direct and official, don't be naive. And even if he did and it was posted, some schmuck troll would just say it was either not good enough or "fake". -J.
  5. Yes it's rare. Only about ~225 printed and distributed. This, according to the main Diamond liaison for Marvel Comics. May I ask how you came upon this particular copy? And some pics of the front and back cover outside the bag would be helpful. -J.
  6. Thank you much ! I can't figure out how to see sold listings anymore since Ebay changed their API... -J.
  7. Hey gang. Can anybody help me out with what this actually sold for? https://www.ebay.com/itm/Gabriele-Dell-Otto-Star-Wars-Darth-Maul-Original-Art-Painting/202799940975?hash=item2f37d1856f:g:XQMAAOSwLIhdU2WW Thanks in advance. -J.
  8. Among other reasons I don't like SS1 as a book with much "investment" potential left is that it's a coat-tailer- meaning its value is dependent on another book- in this case FF 48- to pull it up in value. SC 22 stands on it's own, and from recent news, GL isn't going to be left on the shelf by DC for very much longer. -J.
  9. Get the highest grade FF 48 you can afford instead. If not, the SC 22. -J.
  10. First print. This time and every time. -J.
  11. That is incorrect. GPA extracts from the API which reports SOLD price. Granted, there can always be glitches in the matrix, but that's how it works. -J.
  12. Ebay is a much larger "room" than C-link. And If the Ebay sale isn't real or completed, it will be sussed out soon enough. -J.
  13. Translation- "It only matters, except when it doesn't." Glad to see we finally agree. -J.
  14. I'm really wondering how many times that (the alleged "pq" on a label) has to be shown to be a non-to-negligible factor in prices before people believe it. People just can't seem to be able to see beyond their own confirmation bias. -J.
  15. Well in fairness, prior to this sale, there was a similar spread between a 6.5 and a 7.0... -J.
  16. Akira was "confirmed" too. Lol The first one was a money loser. I'll believe this when I actually see it on the marquee. -J.
  17. If you're talking about raw books that's a different story. There you can actually TOUCH the pages and actually assess the "pq" first hand so to speak. In a slab you are subject to the whims of CGC graders and no guarantee that the alleged "pq" on the label is even still the state of the book within the slab if you were to crack it (another possible explanation for why they appear to be so inconsistent with that). -J.
  18. Not if it had unsightly marvel chipping or miswrap or something else going on. And if it didn't have any of those things then it would in effect be a "perfect" book, and would likely sell for a bit more anyway. Also, as has also been discussed before, most people know NOT to put much or any stock in the "pq" on the label because they know how horribly and inconsistently graded it is. -J.
  19. It was a "decent price" considering the time of year, the fact that multiple 8.0's have come to market far more frequently than they have in years past, and the overall somewhat softer current market for the book. The irrelevant and random "PQ" on the label had little to nothing to do with it (although the bad miswrap and noticeable tanning, something likely not expected at this high of a grade level, probably also had an affect on the price, but not to the absurd tune of $69k that same here are suggesting). -J.
  20. He was referring to the deleted posts in the thread. -J.
