  1. Awesome books! I'm a big fan of the top one. -J.
  2. Thanks man I appreciate that. It's a square, 22"×26", and I went with a double mat so I could get the red highlight effect around each item. Here's a better picture showing the whole piece (sorry about the glare I don't want to take it out of the packaging until it's time to go on the wall). I also had the comic framed within a mylar (with a backer board) to give it a glossier, poppier look next to the more matte OA (though you can't really see that while it's still in the packaging). I also used anti-relective UV plexi even though the room it will ultimately live in gets almost no natural sunlight (don't call it the "mancave" for nothin! Lol ) -J.
  3. Hey guys haven't done a pick up post in a little while. But I had to post this! . I literally snapped this picture as soon as I got back from the framers, my first Dell'otto OA (first OA at all, actually!). I've been wanting to pick up something original by him for quite a while and when I saw his cover for the new ASM 1 I knew I had to have it! I love his work on black paper, and his use of negative space and lighting effects on it. And on this particular piece, the not so subtle ASM 300/301 homage made it a no brainer! I immediately contacted his rep David Ceci in Italy to see if he still had it. Of course he didn't, it had already been sold! So you can imagine my surprise when I saw the boardie @Sooners151 posted that HE was the owner of the OA in this very thread when he saw it was being turned into a publisher cover! I wasted no time in reaching out to him with a completely unsolicited buy inquiry. Not surprisingly I wasn't the only one to do so, and after a week or so of very friendly and pleasant negotiations, we agreed to a price and I pulled the trigger! This is a perfect example of what makes the community on these boards so awesome. I also purchased a copy of the published book from Ebay, and then rushed the pieces to the framer to have it all done up right. I might have gone a little crazy with the whole thing, but screw it! Lol It's my first OA piece, I love it, and I really wanted to make it a nice museum quality piece. Well anyway this is how it turned out. Thanks for checking it out and thanks again to Sooners151! -J.
  4. IMO it was his last great, clever cover. Looking at it, you really have to wonder how it made it past Marvel's Standards and Practices. -J.
  5. It was a 1:50 that wasn't announced as a JSC cover by Marvel until the last minute. -J.
  6. Nice price for a CGC 9.8 Winter Solider 1. Haven't seen one of these in a while: https://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&_trksid=p3750801.m370.h1613&rc=nt&item=192617436932&LH_BIN=1&_pgn=1&item_hash4=72cf16a1&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-53200-19255-0%2F1%3Fff3%3D4%26campid%3D5335849815%26toolid%3D10034%26customid%3DeBay-US_go-url_-76d1aaf11675---ilu.ihist.192617436932.-_wcc%26mpre%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Foffer.ebay.co.uk%252Fws%252FeBayISAPI.dll%253FViewBidsLogin%2526item%253D192617436932%2526item_hash4%253D72cf16a1%2526LH_Complete%253D1%2526LH_BIN%253D1%2526_pgn%253D1%2526rc%253Dnt%2526_trksid%253Dp3750801.m370.h1613%26srcrot%3D711-53200-19255-0%26rvr_id%3D1622675507279%26rvr_ts%3D0d53ee191650ac3d616111d5fff460af&LH_Complete=1&ViewBidsLogin= -J.
  7. Check the stats directly here. It extracts directly from the CGC census: http://cgcdata.com/cgc/search/comicid/16 -J.
  8. "Better" is in the eye of the beholder, and "all things" are rarely ever "equal". -J.
  9. Actually according to CGCdata the 100th (blue label) copy was graded about a year ago and only 11 additional 9.8's have been graded since then. -J.
  10. I didn't see these thanks for posting. Looks more like about an $8k-$9k difference between a 9.6 and 9.8. -J.
  11. Of course I have never said that. I say that it doesn't make a difference in any consistent or quantifiable way. And of course, it doesn't: https://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Incredible-Hulk-181-CGC-9-6-WHITE-1st-Wolverine-Nov-1974-Marvel/263718226054?epid=85340044&hash=item3d66d4c886:g:mZMAAOSwkKBbCx4H And yes, 9.6's definitely seem to be caught in a no-man's land of pricing. $1,000 price difference between a 9.4 and a 9.6 and a $15,000 price difference between a 9.6 and a 9.8? That's just wonky. -J.
  12. That was definitely Riot. -J.
  13. Obviously rights issues forces Sony to tweak the origin (just as Marvel has had to tweak MANY things for the same reason, specifically, almost EVERYTHING in Civil War and Infinity Wars). This is looking like a prequel/origin movie, but my sense is there's A LOT they aren't showing (good!), because Peter Parker does have a rumored appearance, and we have seen nothing of either Woody Harrelson (confirmed) or Toxin (also rumored) in any trailer or teaser yet. -J.
  14. I was off by $800 on my final price estimate of $20k. -J.
  15. You seem to be in the minority. Has anyone ever done a formal study of the correlation between trailer views and opening/final box office performance ? It would be interesting to see something like that. Here's a few fun facts from a quick compilation that I just did (highest viewed official trailers only; domestic figures only): Fantastic Four (2015) Trailer Views- 11MM; Opening Box Office- $25MM Justice League Trailer Views- 34MM;Opening Box Office- $94MM Suicide Squad Trailer Views- 85MM;Opening Box Office- $133MM Wonder Woman Trailer Views- 29MM;Opening Box Office- $103MM Avengers Infinity Wars Trailer Views-205MM; Opening Box Office- $258MM Antman and Wasp Trailer Views- 25MM; Openong Box Office- $76MM Logan Trailer Views- 25MM; Opening Box Office- $88MM Deadpool 2 Trailer Views- 42MM; Opening Box Office- $125MM Batman vs Superman Trailer Views- 72MM; Opening Box Office- $166MM Aquaman Trailer Views- 35MM (8 days) Shazam Trailer Views- 16MM (8 days) Venom Trailer Views- 67MM ++Venom Trailer 3 Views- 21MM (3 days) Not hard to see why Sony's not worried. -J.
  16. Oh please. This movie is going to open at an easy #1 and probably do $125-$150MM opening weekend worldwide on its ~$70MM budget. -J.
  17. Your logic fails you: https://www.google.com/amp/s/metro.co.uk/2018/07/21/venom-director-confirms-plan-expanded-mcu-style-universe-tom-hardy-reveals-touching-reason-signed-film-7744146/amp/ -J.
  18. I think the nearly 100 million trailer views on YouTube challenge this assumption. https://www.google.com/amp/s/screenrant.com/venom-movie-trailer-views/amp/ -J.
  19. Multiple images are right out of certain comic book panels. The glimpses of Venom brutality and when the symbiote "fixes" one of Brock's broken legs looks especially bad-azz. Should be lots of sweet symbiote action (I count four different ones for sure from the trailer). Looking forward to this with a vengeance now more than ever. -J.
  20. Very nice. Definitely a modern classic and one of his all time best. -J.
  21. ...and needless to say he was absolutely giddy about the dumpster fire trailer for Aquaman which looked like it consisted of leftover footage from Finding Dory and a Starkist Tuna commercial. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.forbes.com/sites/scottmendelson/2018/07/21/trailer-aquaman-dc-films-james-wan-jason-momoa-wonder-woman-shazam/amp/ Geez this guy is such an obvious hack. -J.
