  1. Yes. Ultimate Venom. Prior rights agreements have forced almost all of these movies to deviate from their source material, if not all of them. However strict adherence to source material is far less important to me than delivering an interesting and exciting movie and from the early looks of things Sony has done that, and from early tracking it will be a big hit for them. And Venom has no spider powers that I've seen from the trailers. Only tendrils, not webbing, and they don't show him climbing any walls. -J.
  2. Yes, referring to the costume he puts together in Avenging (which, again, we actually have already seen in an out of continuity cameo in DD 21 as well as in a flash forward in ASM 700). -J.
  3. No, you're actually wrong. As I correctly stated, Avenging was realeased the same day as ASM 700 (both December 26, 2012): https://mobilestore.marvel.com/Avenging-Spider-Man-2011-2013-15-1/digital-comic/28109 https://mobilestore.marvel.com/Amazing-Spider-Man-1999-2013-700/digital-comic/28117 However continuity wise Avegning takes place after the events of ASM 700 (obviously), contains the origin of SSM as well as the first time he names himself, and dons his suit (which he tweaks and "perfects" by the end of Avenging, but a costume change of a character is not a new "first appearance"). ASM 698 he is still impersonating Spider-Man, he does not establish his new identity until his mind switch is completed in 700 and he believes Peter and his mind to have died in his old body: https://www.cbr.com/avenging-spider-man-15-1/ "....the end of “Amazing Spider-Man” #700 left us with essentially a new character who had, in the classic Spider-Man tradition, learned a lesson about responsibility." And yes continuity DOES matter. Comic books are by their very nature a sequential story telling medium. Pedantic arguments for a "first appearance" rather than substantive ones almost always look agenda driven. -J.
  4. Nah. This is just him in the final costume he made in that issue. He was "Superior" before this and then went on to make the costume. -J.
  5. Lol Well I think I also made the case for why DD 21 is not particularly compelling or valid even as a cameo. -J.
  6. My central point is that ASM 700 is the first full and origin. -J.
  7. I'm not debating that there was an out of continuity cameo in DD 21. That makes it particularly weak, even for a cameo appearance. Although I could make a pretty strong argument why that doesn't count for anything, my argument is why ASM 700 is, worst case scenario, first full and origin (but I could easily see a CGC label simply calling it first appearance outright with a label note on DD 21 saying something like "SSM Cameo, predates ASM 700"). -J.
  8. I didn't say that. A cameo is cameo. A first full is a first full. I said ASM 700 is first full and origin. -J.
  9. Not quite. Not only is it just a cameo (*yawn*), it's also out of title, out of continuity and subsequent to the events of ASM 700 (as I stated above). Not an opinion. Fact. -J.
  10. Good news for the fans of the run (of which I am one!). Superior Spider-Man is getting his own series again: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbr.com/superior-spider-man-returns-marvel/amp/ ....so I thought it would he a good time to revive this debate. For me, the answer is easy and obvious- the origin and first (full) appearance of SSM is without question, ASM 700. To make my case I will first debunk why it isn't the other suggestions that were first offered in this thread. It isn't DD 21. Why? Because although the creator stated it would be the first time we see the character interacting with other Marvel characters, the appearance, such as it was, turned out to be a very thin cameo only at the end of the book. Furthermore, it is out of continuity, specifically, the scene we see in DD 21 occurs after the events within ASM 700: https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.cbr.com/superior-spider-man-returns-marvel/amp/ DD 21 came out just one week before ASM 700, which makes even this cameo look more like a hiccup in the ordering of release dates than an actually intended first cameo anyway. ASM 698- Not even close. Otto was still only impersonating Spidey in this issue. While it may have some elements of the character's origins, it does not all come together until 700, where the death of Peter inspires him much in the same way the death of Ben inspired Peter. Avenging Spider-Man 15.1- Nope. Although it was released the same day as ASM 700, the events also take place after ASM 700 in continuity. Although he does put the finishing touches on his costume in this issue, he has already assumed the moniker "Superior" in ASM 700. It is also interesting to note that the Marvel wikia also notes the first appearance of the costume in ASM 700: http://marvel.wikia.com/wiki/Superior_Spider-Man's_Suit ASM 700- The case for the first full appearance can easiest be made here. How ? Only after Otto finishes the mind upload into Peter's body and he believes Peter to be dead in his body does he proclaim"Farewell, Peter Parker. Know this, I will carry on in your name. You may be leaving this world, but you are not leaving it to a villain. I swear. I will be Spider-Man. Better yet, with my unparalleled genius-- --and my boundless ambition-- --I'll be a betterSpider-Man than you ever were. From this day forth, I shall become... ...The Superior Spider-Man!" So he actually names himself here. He is also named (for the first time) on the cover of the 700 Ditko variant ("INTRODUCING.... an ALL NEW SUPERIOR HERO!"). There you have it. I would be interested to hear any dissenting opinions. -J.
  11. I'd be down but they will need to recast Wolverine. I think Disney understands It's time to move on from Jackman. -J.
  12. *$2700+ for a raw ASM 678. I believe that is a record for a raw modern variant. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-man-678-Variant-CGC-Ready-Very-RARE-/163234740072?nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2349624.m43663.l10137&redirect=mobile *$1,275 for a 9.8, JIM 633 Venom Variant (2012, first one of those to sell publicly, ever in that grade) makes that one of the top books from that initial run and sub-genre of variants. https://offer.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidsLogin&item=202186724504&item_hash4=78833eed&LH_Complete=1&LH_BIN=1&_pgn=1&rc=nt&_trksid=p3750801.m370.h1613&ul_ref=http%3A%2F%2Frover.ebay.com%2Frover%2F1%2F711-53200-19255-0%2F1%3Ficep_ff3%3D4%26campid%3D5335849815%26toolid%3D10034%26customid%3DeBay-US_go-url_-76d1aaf11675--www.watchcount.com-ilu.ihist.202186724504.-_wcc%26mpre%3Dhttp%253A%252F%252Foffer.ebay.co.uk%252Fws%252FeBayISAPI.dll%253FViewBidsLogin%2526item%253D202186724504%2526item_hash4%253D78833eed%2526LH_Complete%253D1%2526LH_BIN%253D1%2526_pgn%253D1%2526rc%253Dnt%2526_trksid%253Dp3750801.m370.h1613%26srcrot%3D711-53200-19255-0%26rvr_id%3D1661122434501%26rvr_ts%3Dbbbf14281650ab6af4904e81fffb8e7d -J.
  13. Sorry, no. You're still wrong and you will continue to be wrong no matter how many times you say it. And a genuine RRP is nothing like a store variant (which the Saga DRS reprint actually is). A genuine RRP is a DC publisher variant, printed similarly as publisher's ratio variants are printed now, except they are not distributed by Diamond, they are withheld from the market until directly distributed by DC executives at their RRP events. You're just trolling now. -J.
  14. DKR 1 TMNT 1 Killing Joke... -J.
  15. So you're just making things up now ? CGC has checked the indicia, and it is a first printing, that's all that matters. I already linked the actual second printing to the issue up above, but here it is again: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BATMAN-608-2nd-printing-CGC-9-8-SIGNED-BY-JIM-LEE-/253676219683?nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2349624.m43663.l10137&redirect=mobile And again, genuine DC RRP's are printed as variants to the first printing for the purpose of being surprise gratuities at their RRP event for that year and are then simply held by DC until the day of the event where they are given out to a few select invited retailers directly. Unlike the Saga 1 DRS third printing which was announced by Diamond as a third printing(who commissioned the reprint much like a retailer commissions a variant cover from a publisher) in advance of their own version of a retailer summit, and was then mailed out to hundreds of retailers with UPC's after the fact. Many if not most people on Ebay and here improperly call those "RRP" as well. But they are not. They are Diamond summit books. -J.
  16. Add another GPA high for a 1.0 today- $5550: https://www.ebay.com/itm/INCREDIBLE-HULK-1-CGC-1-0-1st-HULK-Stan-Lee-Jack-Kirby-Marvel-Comics-1962/372412473998?hash=item56b583628e:g:Bh4AAOSwEwpbf0cZ&redirect=mobile -J.
  17. This looks great, you you mind if I ask how much it was ? -J.
  18. You may want to double check your facts. Genuine DC RRP's don't "come out", they are handed out, directly to retailers who attend and participate in DC's occasional Retailer Roundtable Programs ("RRP"), and they are catalogued as first printings. -J.
  19. Unlike the Saga 1 DRS third printing that was commissioned by Diamond distributors, the Batman 608RRP is a variant of the first printing. This is the second printing of the standard 608: https://www.ebay.com/itm/BATMAN-608-2nd-printing-CGC-9-8-SIGNED-BY-JIM-LEE-/253676219683?nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2349624.m43663.l10137&redirect=mobile -J.
  20. This should be interesting.... https://www.ebay.com/itm/Batman-608-CGC-9-8-RRP-Retailer-Incentive-HUSH-1-of-200-Jim-Lee-Harley-Ivy/283128732867?hash=item41ebc99cc3:g:dY4AAOSwtqRbhhpj&redirect=mobile -J.
  21. Thanks! That's about where the book was at in 2016 and $5k under the all time high reached in April, 2017 (though, granted, there have only been 4 public sales of the book in that grade in 5 years, counting this sale). -J.
