  1. So I guess my question is really whether I can rely on the notes that say nothing about rust ..... it seems like some of you have had experiences where the notes do not mention it even if it is there .... which causes some concern. But I have pulled notes where heavy and light rust were noted on top or bottom staples - so I want to think that if the notes don’t mention that there is no rust ....... blargh tough call. Here are the notes and I should note the seller did say the bottom staples was discoloured (so it is the “suspect” staple) and the fact that the notes contain explicit mention of the bottom staple make me think if there was rust in that staple they would mention it??? NOTES: chip out right bottom of front cover heavy fade front cover light, multiple stain interior cover multiple crease full bottom of front cover breaks color small tear left center of back cover small, multiple tear full bottom of front cover spine stress lines breaks color staple detached bottom of cover
  2. Will the Graders Notes always indicate whether the staples are rusty - or does it depend on the grader? I have pulled a few set of notes and have seen staple rust indicated - just wondering whether it is always something they note and I can rely on - i.e., I am considering a big purchase, staple rust is a deal breaker for me, the seller says the staple looks discolored a bit but the staple is very hard to see as it is detached from the FC and recessed, so I pulled the notes and no rust is noted ...... so trying to see if I can rely on the notes
  3. I thought it was very good to great - a few plot holes here and there - but that is to be expected. I thought it would have been better to have Cap give the ultimate sacrifice and die in battle versus Thanos - but you knew it was going to be Tony when Howard Stark said something along the lines of: “There have been far to few times when the greater good outweighed my self interest” But seeing Cap with the Hammer and Shield was awesome! Are we to assume that with the Hammer he has Thor’s strength as well? Fat Thor got a bit old - wish that when he had the lightning course through him and his facial hair changed that he also went back to in shape Thor I also wish we saw Hulk do Hulk things and fight Thanos again and his minion who got squashed by Ant Man. But it was a great ride!
  4. Thanks - shoot me a PM if you could saw the movie this morning - it was very good, some weak points here and there, but overall VERY entertaining and well done IMO
  5. Are there CGC signature options for Peter Cullen and Frank Welker?
  6. If you are referring to the 1986 Cartoon movie - then yes that was traumatic ..... when Optimus turns grey when he dies ..... that was tough
  7. But presumably The good doctor is now popular enough and copies are of a sufficient value that no one is wondering whether it should be slabbed at this point ...... it would be interesting to see the number of TOS39 slabbed before Iron man 1 and after that movie and same with ST110
  8. Great Spider-Man villain - but no real impact on the Marvel universe and not really a crossover villain (although maybe they changed this in copper/modern?). Also, I am not even sure he is the best Spidey villain (Doc Ock and Venom come to mind).
  9. If I were picking a third I would probably pick Thanos for the same reasons mentioned above. But if we are sticking to the Silver Age then Loki, Galactus, And Kingpin come to mind
  10. New trailer looks good - but if she gets the Phoenix force in this movie - how did she use it to destroy Apocalypse in the prior film (or am I now to believe that was something different)?
  11. Top two Marvel villains are pretty easy - Dr. Doom and Magneto ...... after that there is some debating to do
  12. Say what you will about this movie and the franchise (I loved First Class and DOFP and thought Apocalypse was terrible) - but I love the choice of Fassbender as Magneto, and hope he stays on under the Marvel umbrella. I would love a solo Magneto film and more scenes like the Argentina scene in First Class.
  13. So you are saying I should choose DD1 instead then All kidding aside - I agree that total graded does not necessarily indicate its actual scarcity and take your points. I would just think that since the initial Doctor Strange movie (and his amazing role in Infinity War) that most people are no longer thinking it is a book not worth grading. I do think the fact that he is not on the cover plays a role and the fact that it did not immediately lead to successive cover appearances in the title or a stand alone title also play a role. While the cover lacks Doctor Strange and is considered by most a "bad" cover - I actually think it is so bad it is iconic and really like it - weird I know.
  14. Interesting - I did not realize that ST110 is a relatively "rare" book when it comes to Silver Age Marvels with 1,305 universal copies graded - I am debating picking up either a ST110 or DD1 (see my WTB thread please) but the "scarcity" of ST110 compared to DD1 (3,224 universal copies) may push me to ST110. I understand that 1963 Marvels (like ST110) are rarer than say 1964 Marvels (like DD1) - but why is ST110 rarer than a book like TOS39 (1,531 copies) or X-Men 1 (3,067) - with X-Men 1 I get it was a late 1963 release (September), but TOS39 was a March release compared to ST110 July's release, so was it just due to the obscurity of the character versus say Iron Man or the X-Men?
  15. This thread should not be on the 4th page - so I thought I would post a group shot of my X-Men 1s I only wish the grade order was reversed
  16. Posted already but figured I would throw up a group shot (there is definitely a 1st appearance here)
  17. I like FF52 - it is a great book, however, I am not even sure if most people would put FF52 as a top 5 FF book let alone more important than FF48 (which IMO is at least the 3rd most important FF book and possibly #2 depending on how you feel about Doom). So I would say there is no way FF52 is more important than FF48 (but I am also a huge Silver Surfer fan so......). By the way most important FF books (IMO) = FF1 - FF5 - FF48 - FF4 - FF52 (although I would be fine swapping FF4 and FF52, but others may bump FF52 altogether from a top 5 list).
  18. It is likely the second most important X-Men book ...... although I guess that depends if you think Hulk 181 is an X-Men book and even then not sure this book is not more important to the X-Men that being said I think it will rise some more over a short period and then level off for a bit.
  19. I just got it ....... now what? I do think this book will jump a bit more when an MCU movie is announced.
  20. So then replacing the rusty staples will get a conserved grade then and not a resto grade right?
  21. So I understand that replacing rusty staples will get a conserved grade (please correct me if I am wrong). What about just removing the rusty staples and just not replacing them - would likely out the book at a 0.5 but wouldn't it still be blue? also, does CCS do resto removal/conservation work and what do they charge?
  22. I don’t understand the detached cover hate? If it is slabbed why does it make any difference to those of you that hate this defect? it is actually one of my favourite defects because you get a great presenting copy for the grade. Tape and staple rust discolour and degrade a book over time - But a detached cover does not do any further damage ....... so I find it interesting that people dislike it so much. But people are free to dislike what they want obviously.
  23. I am trying to find a low grade copy of this book (in the 1.0-2.0) range and it is proving difficult - congrats to all the members! I hope to join soon
