The total on column "I" is used as a quick way to compare who might have a matching guess. In other words-- if I were to submit the exact same guess as someone else, I would immediately not be able to win 1st place (entry factor). It is a simple way to review how your score might be repeating someone else.
-
If someone guesses them all correctly-- the contest ends immediately. Also-- according to the rules-- the tie breaker goes to the person who submits earlier (another reason I am keeping track of the guesses and entry position). And I get yelled at for it. Awesome.

That's not how the scores are tallied though. I add up the absolute value of the difference in grade for each individual book. I just compared the numbers on your graph and they do not match up as to how I am keeping track.
Each person's score for each individual book is Absolute Value of the (Actual Grade - Guessed Grade). Then add up all of the absolute values. Lowest score wins. So I made a mock table showing how the two lead to differences in placing. In your tally Ringo wins. In my tally John wins. The reason why I do it that way so that it balances out the score in case someone believes a book depreciated from the pre CGC grade.
What is your problem with my table that shows the guesses?
It is merely for comparison sake-- I'm not grading your contest. Stop freaking out.
Trust me-- if I were grading your contest-- I would not repeat the same values (final grade for instance) in every single person score of each book. This merely shows that the total of each person set of guesses is a total of X amount-- so they can now if they are similar to someone else.

I have a friend that was looking to buy an FF #2 at the San Diego Convention one year.
He'd narrowed it down to about 3 copies that he liked.
One book was an outstanding bargain for the price and grade. It's biggest flaw, however... someone had drawn/scribbled a moderately large swastika over the backside of the Skrull on the top left of the book. It took a minute to notice the drawing over that gray Skrull, but once you noticed what it was, you couldn't UNsee it!
This was a VF-minus range book, priced in the VG range.
The other books were priced in line with their respective grades. It's kind of funny to think about that FF #2, and as collectors - what we like & don't like as flaws OR what we will put up with as a flaw when presented with a good price.
My friend went with a non-swastika copy. But he thought about it a lot longer than I thought he would!
If it was a bargain based on that-- I might have pulled the trigger and then altered the swastika into a different shape by adding a line or two or four. Or if I were the dealer-- same thing (and raise the price to boot). how to alter a swastika into a less ugly symbol

I just checked... you won in 2015
I stand corrected -- though when you said I won I thought you meant 1st place. I completely forgot about this contest that happened so long ago - I mean-- 5 years is quite a while- especially if you suffered some serious health problems along the way.

I sold a couple of my treasuries which were in pretty nice condition. Shipping can be hard but I found I could fit two packed well on the diagonal of the regular medium priority mail size box. Worked fine with sending off my Star Wars 1 and 2 bought off the rack.
and also with my store bought copy of the Ali - Supes one
Sort of regret not holding on to them but oh well-- can't keep this stuff forever and I got a decent price for mine-- though low compared to today's values I would guess.

First I have seen your contest.

Ha! Very cool your 1.0 has actual old floppy floppys and you had a top of the line 486 system with over 4mb of ram! Mine only came with the 3.5 floppys.
By the time your version was released, most people had moved to the 3.5 floppy drive. I happened to own a machine at the time that had both 3.5 and 5 1/4 because I was into computers as early as 1984 (when 5 1/4 was the standard). I have also used 8' floppy drives in some industrial customer service apps (TRP device that read and encoded checks for example) and even the old magnetic tape drives on old Scanoptics Scanners. Don't get me started talking about old tech though

Very cool! I found this 2.0 in a box recently also. I remember it being fun for keeping up on prices but not as reliable or versitile as a good old notebook. Now a days I use CLZ app on my phone to keep track of what I have and what grade its in etc.. Very handy for when your in the LCS while searching through the bins. Also with the subscription it's connected to Gocollect for pricing so bonus there also.
more pictures of my older version for comparison (not helpful to the original question but might be interesting to some folks).
interesting that I kept a copy of the survey included with the Overstreet update form
According to the survey, I paid $35 for this software in 1993 - sold it for $19 (less 6.50 shipping) in 2017 on ebay

It was this three pack:
These are the original books from that purchase, though only the ASM was not replaced with better copies. Sold the IH and FF in a reader group on ebay.

I haven't had my own software since the early 1990s -- when I had this version of Comic Collector version 1.0 (sold it on ebay as a collectible -- it has neat Batman art):
This was useful stuff-- back before the internet. I did use this for several years-- never needing to update it because I was not actively collecting. It was "good enough" and by now I would bet it is incredible by comparison. I mean-- this version was 4 grades - Poor, Good, Fine, and Mint. But it was a usable way to print stuff out etc. It was well worth the dough I paid all those years ago. I still have my printouts - though in the 1970s I made my own collection sheets in a 3 ring binder (awesome resource when you are trying to remember what you have sold at certain points).
Cut to 2013-- prepping to move and possibly sell my books-- kind of how I found this forum.
But the last round of organizing/(rebag/board etc) my collection-- I decided to invest a little more time into learning how to grade under the current environment. I also went through my entire collection (only ~1500 books at the time) and using a website to manage them. I picked a free one called Comic Book Realm-- eventually buying a Lifetime membership ($45 at the time- though they said no ads and there are still ads). The prices quoted there for grades is not super accurate but it is decent enough. You might want to search around for other options. But I think the days of using software on a PC don't make much sense. I mean-- I can view my information using my smart phone. It isn't perfect--- and I would suggest you try a few of them out to see if you like how it works. But the one I use and find workable enough is ComicBookRealm.com
My guess is that the makers of software like Comic Collector probably improved the product and made it available on line as well. Not sure-- once all your books are entered-- it is pretty hard to change your game plan. That is why my biggest thing to add here is to evaluate the your options fully before you pull the trigger.

It doesn't surprise me that at least some of the SNL people of that era were big Marvel geeks; the comic book parodies from National Lampoon just a few years earlier were spot-on. And SNL was what a lot of the NatLamp crew did when they left NatLamp.
and much later.....

Buzzetta's FOURTH Guess The Grade Contest - Ends 2020-12-12 at 12 Midnight EST

Sure-- I can do that. Sorry I got so defensive.
I actually just went ahead and added the method for computing the absolute value scores. I am also making one that counts up the total Bulls eyes. This is a side spread to the original one I created. I enjoy this type of stuff and do it on several boards for various contests. (take a look at this one for example: https://www.thebullspen.com/topic/154846-basketball-prediction-contest-bulls-vs-va-tech-sunday/page/3/#comments )
Anyway-- given enough time, I will eventually develop a nice display of many contests. Though some find my use of colors a little unnerving.
