  1. Anyway, Avengers Annual #7 is irrelevant

That might off a few comic fans.

This is wayyyy off topic but did you ever post pics of the new store location after you finished?

I don't think I have. We just opened two weeks ago. We posted a bunch of photos on the Facebook page.

post a few in the forum as well please as many of us cannot stand facebook and do not use it.

  2. No, but you...you...you're thinking of this site all wrong.

As if I had the money back in a safe.

    The, the money's not here.

Well, your money's in Joe's copy of Avenger's 7 Annual CGC 9.8 house...

that's right next to your copy of NM98.

And in the Kennedy copy of Ninjak, and Mrs. Macklin's

Iron Man 55, and, and a hundred others.

Why, you're lending them the money to build a collection,

and then, they're going to pay it

back to you as best they can.

Every time someone invests, a puppy gets its wings!

    sure-- but can they fly?

  4. I had a bidder, who was high (and only) bidder on a 99¢ book for a few days now, message me and ask me to cancel his bid. No explanation, just "please cancel my bid on this item."

At least he was polite, and I won't add his name to the thread, but it still rubs me the wrong way. I personally blocked them, though. Am I overreacting?

a little -- they did contact you and it was only 99 cents. If anything, they saved you money/hassle.

But a block is not a terrible idea either-- it is your storefront. Kind of a depends thing based on how long they had the bid out there, the feedback score, how much time was left. If it was under 12 hours left, they can't retract unless it was less than an hour since the bid was made.

  5. you know those clear doors that can be turned into solid white with the flip of a switch - typically used on fancy bathrooms or changing rooms?

that type of tech would be perfect if you could use it to face the display case of books. I think it would help keep the light out of them when you weren't displaying/looking at them.

anyone try this in their comic showcase?

this is the stuff I am talking about "smart tint"

Also-- you can avoid this problem by changing your settings so that anyone pressing "Buy It Now" cannot get the item until they have completed payment for it. The item remains up for sale until the BIN payment is processed.

This isn't true for comic listings and if you require immediate payment you cannot offer combined shipping discounts.

true-- but when I buy something and plan on buying others from the same seller, you can just do the "save to cart" -- then process the whole list at once after requesting the seller send you a combined invoice.

If someone just wants the one book-- this allows you to get paid immediately with the stated shipping terms. If they put the item in the cart instead, the book is still listing and can be bought by someone else-- so in effect you never lose a chance at the sale from others. It stops people from high jacking your book from sale if their intentions are devious.

Non payer...... Emailed me and asked if I could wait till the Friday for payment after he hit the buy it now..... Then emailed me to say he would give me $50 a month for the next 7 months........WTF....... I hate that you can't give them negative feedback as a non payer. Gotta love ebay!

Also-- you can avoid this problem by changing your settings so that anyone pressing "Buy It Now" cannot get the item until they have completed payment for it. The item remains up for sale until the BIN payment is processed. I also do not allow people to pay with e-checks as this process can fool the buy it now and it can take a week for the transaction to complete. I made this switch quite a while ago when I ran into a similar BIN buyer who dragged their feet and eventually cancelled sale. Their actions cost me a sale to someone else. This is a very effective way to stop that type of behavior. Don't have the cash right now-- then you cannot buy it now, can you?

The last time I wanted to change this, it was only one option for certain sellers -- I believe only if you have a store (or similar). Has this been changed?

I had set this up so long ago that I assumed it was still there. Perhaps it is an option when you set up the listing now (or a default). Not sure-- I could not find the area in site preferences that I thought I set this up previously.

The feature is still there and this page explains how it may be used....

    http://pages.ebay.com/help/pay/require-immediate-payment.html

    key elements:

How to require immediate payment in your listing

To add an immediate payment requirement to your listing:

Create a fixed-price listing or an auction-style listing with a Buy It Now option.

In the Decide how you'd like to be paid section of the listing form, select the option to Require immediate payment when buyer uses Buy It Now.

    Complete your listing.

  10. first thought seeing that box was - OMG-- you took that from a dumpster and put it on top of your oven (especially since that box looked pretty gross to start with)

then I about laughed my arse off with the flaming box photo shop-- lol.

then you open the thing and I was amazed someone just tossed that in a dumpster-- holy -- what a lucky find that was. I would love to be that fortunate.

    congrats!

  11. OK gang. This has gotton a lot bigger than I thought it would. I pretty much assumed that this being a comic book board, that is what you guys wanted to see. I am a little surprised at the reaction to the other stuff. As you can see, I love everything. I am pretty focused on the catagories I collect and pretty much only hang on to the vintage stuff.

My question to you boardies is how would you like to see this thread progress? I can't show you everything as I doubt I'd live that long. So, would you like say a few comics, a few pulps, a rack, a few premiums, a few toys ect or feature a larger "category" of stuff at one time? I have limited time to do this. I work full time, have a family, and lots of interests other than collecting. I obviously like spending time running down and finding this stuff. So it doesn't leave me a ton of time for this. I will have to pull stuff out and photo it ect. Looks like I will have to do this mostly on the weekends and post a bunch of stuff at once when I get a bunch of photos. So your patience and opinion will help.

Also a few have said, post everything in this thread. That will work for most of it except the comics maybe. Shouldn't I post Baker books in the Baker thread or precode books in the precode thread ect? Seems like they all belong together. I don't mix them all together in one box. I guess it is the OCD in me being a collector. I like organization. Sounds like maybe you want a thread like Bang Zooms? Now that was the best thread I ever saw on the boards. When he posted All American Comics up to #15 we all held our breath and then that beautiful #16 rolled out. Wow, that was fun! By the way, were is Bang Zoom? I hope he didn't burn out or get pissed off and I don't want to go that way. I'd like to do this slowly in some kind of order. Let me know your thoughts and glad I can make you guys (and gals SHARON!) happy.

    Bob

anyone have a link handy for the Bang Zoom thread he is talking about? sounds intriguing.

  12. so glad that BlowUpTheMoon posted the link to this thread in the flea market/garage sale finds from the Comics General forum.

awesome stuff-- and please feel free to hang out anywhere you want. There are only a handful of people on these boards who act like jerks -- you aren't alone in trying to get around that type of nonsense.

WTTB -- great addition and fantastic collection!

  13. If someone wanted to do it, they would probably fly to Chicago, rent a truck to move the stuff, drive it where they need it. But the cost of flight from where you are to Chicago plus hotel/food, gas, truck rental etc-- think about this - is going to be a minimum of 1500-- more based on distance it has to go.

This seems like something for someone in the Chicago area to who might have a truck that can carry the stuff-- perhaps in multiple trips -- to their own warehouse/garage-- to deal with.

Does that seem like it is worth it? Sounds like a major hassle to help someone else unload their drek-- and them expecting you to pay for the privilege.
