Moderns that are heating up on ebay!
prez replied to thirdgreenham's topic in Modern Age Comic Books
Raw has been fetching around the $60-$100 range and slabbed is anywhere from $200 on up depending on the sigs. Thanks but I'm curious as to why (It's a What If)? Is it just because it has Venom and Deadpool? Just wondering what the hype is or if its scarce before I go to my LCS and dig through boxes? It was a reprint of a multi-part backup story in What If that has a very low print run (probably because it's a reprint). So, popular characters combined with low print run will do it. It's been popular for a while, so I wouldn't expect to find one in the wild unless you're in a low-traveled area. Aren't reprints inherently have small print runs? Back in the day (at least in the early 90's), comics that are not 1st prints are not typically sought after. People want the actual first printing. Times have definitely changed! Yes that was hard for me to swallow as well the last couple of years. During the 90s and into early 2000s they were considered bad drek. That's kind of the story behind a lot of collectibles. In demand now because people didn't hold on to them/take care of them because they didn't think there would be demand. True. Who would have thought that by slapping a cool cover on a reprint will be like printing money?! I understand why people are jumping on the variant cover craze. -

It has a great Skottie Young cover The cover is definitely catchy. Story any good? The reason I'm asking is because my LCS have one for $100!! -

That is more confusing than it probably should be - if you read the source material anything other than FF 67 seems like a hard sell to me, but it seems the market has decided otherwise. Probably because Thor 165 has a better '1st appearance' cover, and most people don't actually read these books anymore. Wikipedia, covers, and cgc labels are all you gonna need to gauge a book's importance nowadays.

I'm going with all-New Marvel Now Point One as the key Kamala Khan book. Although Captain Marvel 17 2nd print came out a month ahead of ANMN, I see it as a preview / advertisement for the new Ms. Marvel. ANMN has a stand alone ms. marvel story, kamala khan is first named, and has her on the cover as well. It's just a matter of time before the first cgc copy hits the market and the label shows it as such.

Let it be Daryl pleaseeeeee...

+1,000,000 Collecting comic books is just a hobby - it's no more than that IMO. Unless of course you're buying your "key" books for a penny on a dollar. Invest on Gold for sure! Talk to a financial advisor and see what he/she has to say. Gold dropped from $1900 an oz. to $1200 an oz. . I bought mine in 2008 - still in the "W" column. I'm not touching that until I retire. The OP should definitely consider buying now, while gold is lower historically.

Copper's Heating/Selling Well on Ebay
prez replied to fastballspecial's topic in Copper Age Comic Books
Welcome to the thread. Nobody, that I recall, has mentioned selling. We are having a grown (sometimes) discussion on the merits of ADs / previews / 1st appearances. Please feel free to contribute something useful to the conversation. via Imgflip Meme Maker I understand chuck's frustration. Why are ads and previews even getting any attention? We know better and this should be a non-issue IMO... -
But it has a f*ugly miswrap… Nice white copy but the mis wrap is pretty distracting... Hey Claudio, time to sell your gems!!

It's not usually the seller that shills the book. It's usually someone else, holding multiple copies, trying to pump and dump. They get the sale posted on GPA and then they don't pay. Mission accomplished. Seems like there are 2 buyers trying to pump the prices up. Buyer 1: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=191500295614&aid=-***i&eu=&bidtid=1103435220009&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink Buyer 2: http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBidderProfile&mode=1&item=191500295614&aid=a***n&eu=&bidtid=1103438148009&view=NONE&ssPageName=PageBidderProfileViewBids_None_ViewLink Both buyers seem to enjoy messing with this seller

The winner has only 1 feedback and seems to be bidding a lot for this specific seller. http://offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=191500295614&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2565

Bronze age comics that are heating up on eBay...

No kidding. People here need to chill. Not sure if some folks are just boosting post counts It's a good old boy club around here, or at least that's how it seems at times. Had the right person mentioned ST169 heating up no one would have questioned it. But a sub 1000 poster? No cred in the eyes of many. "Noob". How do we join the club? Do we have to boost post our count? Just like anyone does: Make cogent, thoughtful, well-expressed posts consistently, over a period of time. It's not rocket surgery. Sure.... Now, let's talk about comics... -
I would not be confident that everybody is as experienced in pressing potential as some might be. I might also suggest that it is no more micromanaging a sales thread to insist on describing what is actually there as it is to demand methods of payment to be posted. Then who gets to be that arbiter? Who's the 'your statement about pressing is accurate' judge? If we have a solid policy in place and everybody is expected to abide a certain high standards, we will likely not need an arbiter - this should result to less drama. If we continue the status-quo, well...
-
Or, we can let people say what they want in their sales threads, and let everyone else judge for themselves on whatever terms they want. Sure... And watch this place turn to ebay 2.0 More rules won't help this situation. If people can say "it's a 9.0" but they can't say "it might press into a 9.6," then they might just say "it's a 9.6." Then, just like if they had said the first line, people will look at the ad, the seller, & the comic and decide for themselves. Caveat emptor! (thumbs u -slym I see where you are coming from and I mostly agree. However, if that seller decide to call his comic a 9.6 because he thinks he's leaving $$ on the table by calling it a 9.0, should be called out. If I was that seller, I would just raise my price and hope it sells at 9.0 Why advertise potential false hope? Again, we should have higher standards than eBay, Facebook, etc. We got rid of "cgc it" and I think it's a matter of time before the "could benefit from a press" go away.
