  1. No no no no no - Gabe needs to learn how to get better at estimating FMV - he should not be trading - please -
  2. Please no - just make him a fair cash offer via PM if you want the book. I was more interested in recapturing long box space by moving 40-50 copies of Scooby Doo Team-Up #12 than I was in Gabe's book. Sorry if I came off as harsh - just that gabe needs to learn discipline - as an exercise for him - this is actually a good thing - as a temptation - not so much.
  3. Based on what? - you need to practice research - where are you pricing the scoobies??
  4. haha I would need something else that's worth a bit more you can pm me if you'd like. Sine you are not listening - we can try again with an example - Place a real FMV on your jla 1 Place a FMV on the scobby team ups Give a hypothetical good trade quantity of the scoobies - assume an unlimited supply Do not make a trade!!!!!!!!! You need to do this exercise (valuing an individual or set of books) over and over and over again until you are ACCURATE enough to not continuously lose value before you are ready to even consider a trade.
  5. Unless you're looking for a barcode on one of those NM #98s.. What would you say if I told you they were all Mark Jewelers' copies? Alright, how about a dumb question from an old GA guy? I know what Mark Jewelers copies are but what makes them special and why will people pay more for them? This is an honest question as I don't dabble in "new" comics much... Copper and moderns are much more common( and probably not much of a premium) - but earlier versions -bronze and silver- are rarer. They are kind of like the price variants - no real difference between the variant and standard other than somethings simple - but since there is a difference there are people specifically collecting them so there can be a premium. They are not in the same league as the price variants as far as increased value - but for non key books - you can get close to guide for them. Keys - maybe 10-25% above non insert. CGC places a notation on the slab - but does not list them seperately in census so it is hard to track- but some - especially early versions - can be pretty rare. I have several early Archie's that are very uncommon (cuz really - what tough military member in the early 70s would buy and save Archie , ) - and one of the 2 copies of iron man 55 that have been known to exist (on the boards - there are more out there for sure)
  6. Please no - just make him a fair cash offer via PM if you want the book.
  7. HOS - eBay sale? Only 750 sale was an 8.0 - you listed 7.0. 250 - 300 is an ok gpa range for cgc graded nm98 - but isn't this a raw book? Also - FMV is not the maximum price you see.
  8. pssst - gabriel ----- this is a MUCH more reputable guy to contact than any facebook site for a quick sale...... --- was pulled form ebay so from memory - ASM 300 CGC 9.2 - Sgnt series/Signed by Lee/McFarlane/Michelinie
  9. so -- not bad eval in places - I have to start with the things you need to consider more when evaluating any lot---- you have a couple of the intangibles listed - Not taking a loss--- this is NOT a reason for a trade. If you are as good an evaluator as the other guy you will average break even - minus shipping over the long term. Trading for more liquid books to get cashflow - not a bad thought and you are trading a larger quantity for a smaller quantity - but the IG #1s - have been movers and if you started selling a few more than 3 months ago (like listing 1 of the 9.8 and 1 9.6 at a time back when you acquired them) - you would have made more $$$. The IG - and the NM98 --- (per GPA sales) - are moving around the same clip. The HOS - very limited sales. Avengers 57 volume is a bit better. Again - per GPA which is limited in what it tracks - but is solid with datapoints for specific grades. less fees - this is not an issue in a trade - only when you sell. You did pay for shipping 7 slabs - so there is a trading "fee" regardless. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ So my analysis based on today's pricing - all non graded books were evaluated at the lower grade you stated to be consistent. I priced using GPA to set a target - then evaluating SOLD listings on ebay that were under the slabbed costs - but would at (ebay photo) inspection be at the grades listed. SO - a discount to GPA - using ebay as a reference. IG 1s - valued base on a slight discount to 90 day GPA - this represents the fact that in come cases - the "voldemort" slabs do sell at a discount to gpa. GPA also had 30+ sales for each over last 90 days. 5 x 9.8 slabbed at 105 - $525 2 x 9.6 slabbed at 5 notes - downward trend over the past 3 months. May get some back as movies progress but not likely to hit highs soon. Avengers 57 5.0 $175 Notes - downward trend - likely past movie letdown stage and may be level for a while. Avengers 58 7.0 $ 60 not a book to slab - hard to evaluate but found a couple ebay sales at this price total of 860 the other side - HOS 92 CGC 7.0 - 475 notes - not a lot of sales points and the last 2 (90 day) skew significantly upward. estimated at higher than 12month - but lower than 90 day. NM98 8.5 - 245 very popular book - many copies available - very good possibility of finding a 8.5 at lower (and higher) price point. May be overvalued at this point - and if movie is poor- book will bomb as it is more common than many others at this price. Might have only slight upside if a runaway hit as soo many copies are being brought to market ( total - 720 You need to go into at least this level of detail when you analyze. I have no idea how you valued the other guys books - even if you bump the HOS to the max sale - you jump to 785 total and still have a loss in equity. Add in a bump to a 9.0 NM 98 - you are still behind - and both of those bumps are not consistent whit the other books eval. The only element that you did not mention - trading away 7 of one book - I would expect to HAVE to discount this a little bit. This is bulk - and for a seller - to hit that expected FMV - in all likelyhood they will have to take more time to sell and space things out - so effort and time added in there to sell those. So - two really different evaluations for the same deal. I really do not trade - but I would potentially have made the trade in the other direction - especially considering the shipping costs for 2 books and the upside on the IG books - if they even pop 5-10 each as the movies progress or if one of the upcoming ones before the avengers one - really pops the gauntlet back. It is not the worst deal - but you did not get the better of the other guy. Make sure to check and double check SOLD prices when estimating purchases and sales.
  10. So - lets look at in another way - Many advice points here - and if you do not realize it - it is because a lot of boardies want you to have some level of improvement. But you see a lot of backlash and frustration from us as a whole as you keep ignoring good advice. 1. Do not sell on facebook. This is the wild west with little in the way of buyer protection- and this does require a lot more experience that you have to navigate. You see a lot of complaints about ebay and sellers - but it is still better than a lot of the alternatives. If you do not want to pay fees - then sell the better/more desirable books here. 2. Do not trade - this cannot be stressed enough. You are using not wanting to lose money on a sale as a reason for trading. BUT - this is even worse. It is unlikely that you will do better than break even on a trade at this point - so the very best you will do is break even - then you lose the $$ you spent on postage. This is losing increments of money without putting anything in your pocket - then you will probably lose even more when you do finally sell. As an exercise - I want YOU to give us a trade analysis. Ignore the issues you are having with shipment - and lets say that this is the offer on the table. Give us the though process and values you assign that said to you that this was a good deal. Ignore shipping for now - and focus on assigned values as well as any implied risks or benefits on each side. I will do the same. I do ask that the group at large not bash Gabriels logic if he gives us his opinion - just offer ways to improve. Me - you can bash my logic all you want. Offer of - 7 copies of IG #1 9.8 X5 and 9.6 x2 (I am assuming these are the CBCS you had) as well as avengers 57, and 58 at 5.0/5.5 and 7.0/7.5 In exchange for - HOS #92 CGC 7.0 and NM 98 8.5/9.0
  11. Quick note - I did see that you lowered some of the eBay prices - this is a good step - note that o do not think that eBay had any form of trading so I would change that one description - would also stop trying to trade anywhere
  12. 1. Do not trade 2. See # 1 3. Realize that every single trade results in an even swap at best. Majority of the time there is some Inequality. Good traders with knowledge win that battle - and you are not at that point yet. 4. You are not doing the same thing as me. You are hoping to get lucky on a couple of very high priced sales to try and not lose money. What I described is a patient strategy that can consistently work and make money and give a part time seller significant control over how many books will move at once. I need this control as I have the day job and am very involved with my kids activities - so trying to list and ship 50+ orders in a week requires planning. It is an incredibly poor strategy for under 10 books. 5. See # 2 6. I tried to explain it in a way that would help you analyze sales prices better - but a more blipping way - nobody will pay 100 for a 7.0 SW2 when they can get a 9.2 from a reputable dealer for the same price. Or ones that present better on eBay for 70. Your books are not selling because you are overpriced. The same more than a lot of the eBay sellers that are made fun of on the boards. If you want to move the books and have the money to do other things or take a better approach to buying/selling - then research and price properly. Otherwise take them off the market. You seem to get frustrated that they do not sell - then use that as an excuse to make a trade. Pack them away and save yourself the frustration - take a break and focus on short term employment. Come back to it when you can accept the loss as a learning moment and have accepted the changes you need to make to be successful. 7. You have this fear of being shortchanged in selling - but continue to try and trade where it is a very high probability that you will get lesser value. This is a loss. See #3. Then #2 . Then # 1. Then #5. 8 do not trade.
  13. I was wondering that. Though I think Wells may be so terrified by Zoom, he wouldn't dare attempt to plant a device on him. Zoom already trusts him with the "speed force injector" ---- why not whip up something for that - looks like speed force - but NOT.......
  14. Very good notes by revat here - so many items can go into how to price. Not just the elements he stated - but there are also many selling styles. I have a basic ebay seller subscription. Included - I get 200 free listing a month - and they send LOTS of offers with more free listings. For non "hot" books (raw) - I have a set strategy below guide that I list them to (sometimes a little less for less desirable series or lower grades). I have many books in the pipeline - and I take a patient approach. When first listed - BIN only. Sometimes I will message over an offer to someone who expresses interest. After 1-2 months - I add in make offer - maybe lower the price. Ebay allows for me to be patient (as the relisting is free) - so I am. Every so often - I look over things and drop prices on books that might be stagnant. Sure - I have some books out there for many months - but I have been very busy lately with outside interests so I do not need to chop margins just to ship more books. I get a fair mix of newer and older listing sales - and can easily throttle up my sales if I wish by slashing prices. The key for this strategy - is to know that you will have to wait some time for many of the books to sell - and you do need to keep listing options (you should not just throw up 200 books and not refresh stock). This strategy does have longer term risks - I do have a lot of stock from some great collection finds. But I am not churning through it quickly. If prices go through a big drop - I lose the potential profit that I have now. I also have to limit new buys - unless I want to add in a storage locker (and this increases that risk of a market correction). Others - (and especially those who do this for a significant % of their income) - will churn through books a lot quicker and for less profit per book. They may make 20% less per similar books than me - but they run through 5x to 10x the stock I do and have a far greater "income". The challenge for them - is to keep finding new stock to churn through at a reasonable buying price. As for selling locations - the unfortunate nature of things is that ebay is probably the best place for you. With facebook (and PAYPAL) - you will get some protection - but there are more general risks. Ebay has the largest set of customer eyes out there - so more chances to get a sale. Selling on the boards is great - but sometimes tough to manage. I see people with dozens of books or more in a thread. This can take a lot of time to figure the logistics for invoicing and sales. Works for some - but I would rather have ebay handle all of that for me. The buyers here (generally) are also VERY educated and VERY picky. This is not a bad thing - but the majority can and will analyze buys and not pay a premium. They also - generally again - also have (or do not want) the books that are more common or in the grades a lot of us find in the while (VG to FN silver/bronze non keys as an example) - have to be significantly discounted to move.
  15. The trade is still being worked on. Make it your last one (trade) for awhile. I re-read this entire thread the other day. Can't even tell you how many times people advised you to put trades on the back burner and just sell your inventory. That's what I'm doing but nothing is moving yet. Well - can be many reasons for that - but realize that even if priced fairly, some books will move slower than others. A quick analysis for you on your ebay sales - ASM 300 SS - triple signed You have this listed at 850 - with 35 shipping to US. 2014 average - 450 last sale 650 (november) You are looking for more than 20% over last GP sale on a book that dies have some specific demographics (people have to want SS - and really would want that set of sigs. Also - there is a 9.6 out there for $150 more with no haggling. This is a tough one to move quickly. To move quick - price at 650 - and be willing to take 10% off. If you want to wait it out - price at 750. Astonishing tales - this is a much better price point when looking at GPA - but the demand for the reprint of a movie hyped book from a secondary line (meaning not like a FF or Avengers) - is not great. Once the movie gets closer - this may have some interest - but you are really competing with the original (there are WAY more copies of MSH 18 out there graded and for sale). Han Solo variant - can get a 9.2 online for $100. If yours are that low of a grade - either auction to try and get a pop for being somewhat rare or sell outright for 50. JLA1 coverless - this is a tough sell as coverless books are NOT in demand. BATB 28 (which is the most desirable JLA key) - best cover-less price recently was 275. There is another CGC coverless on ebay for less than yours and many non graded that have sold for under 50. At a minim - price at 250 to get under the other graded offering on ebay. When pricing bigger books - you have to look at your goals (sell quick, wait it out, little of both?) - -- but also look at all data. Pay close attention to what similar books have sold for - if they sell a lot - and what similar books are listing for. Most of the time - I can list slabs (the better ones that are $150+) at a premium to GPA - but still be under any other listings. all $$$ in USD I know it may put you at a point where you are taking a loss compared to what you paid - but we all have this happen occasionally. If you get into a mode of better decision making - then it works the other way and you can be more of a strategist with listings to maximize profit. For now - would seem to make more sense to get the books off the ledger and free up the cash. And as others have said - I would avoid ANY facebook transactions. That is really the wild west of sales and trades - and really has little to no protections.
  16. oh heck yea - said most were bagged and boarded too? - probably mostly moderns - but you could snag out anything of real value - separate in to $1 and $0.50 piles - flip for quick. The rest go to "half price books" the next weekend and get rid of the rest.
  17. Think the flying one is waiting for the VCC to share - he has only hinted so far....... Not everything, but a nice assortment. Really nice stuff is going to Heritage in the Spring time frame. 19. Nice! 125 gallon? Yep - got a nice used tank and sump from someone upgrading- that pic is old - many more cool changes since then.
  20. Need more pics of that fish tank!!!!!!! Cool looking rimless - see some LPS in there...... This be my beast (a very old photo)
  21. back from CGC (coupon submission)---- ASM 5: 6.5 ASM 4: 6.5 ASM 3 7.5 ASM 2 6.0 TRIMMED.... Ok - not too terribly bad given the lot as a whole - but it had marvel chipping down the side so I did not look too closely at the rest of the cover. In any case - I like to keep a couple books from each decent score -so this one makes the decision pretty easy. Sill a bunch more on another submission (this was a 4 pack coupon sub) - but these were 1st to ship back. Very nice! Even better news - the second set from the collection- just got graded - I was able to get a peek at scheduled for grading - no restoration notation (when they mark as scheduled - is usually when resto notes pop up for me). Not that I use them to check for resto - but I have missed a couple.... This set includes more mini keys like - ASM 17, Hawkman 4, GL 7 -- and a couple of potential big hitters like Avengers 2 and FF 4....
  22. back from CGC (coupon submission)---- ASM 5: 6.5 ASM 4: 6.5 ASM 3 7.5 ASM 2 6.0 TRIMMED.... 23. great sales transaction to Frank - he paid fast and communication was awesome as well!
  24. ...... decided to keep the book - hole punches and all...... it is complete - cover and centerfold firmly attached still a showcase 22
  25. Think the flying one is waiting for the VCC to share - he has only hinted so far.......
