What about a mono recreation’s value? Original cover inker inked on computer. Artist is willing to recreate what he did in original ink and give a certificate of authenticity that will be his only “authentic” recreation. Given my taste, that’s quite likely to be true. Price is about 60% of his original inked work price. Is that to be valued as no different than a recreation?

It should be value less as it is  a recreation, and not original. And in this case the original pencils exist, which supersedes the digital medium.

they are getting it.. the larraz drop sold out in minutes at 4-600 each!

Jorge Jimenez Batman art is also selling quite well.  There is no doubt that his covers would be selling at 3X, if they were in pencil and ink.  A lot of collectors are getting priced out. The 1 of 1 monoprint is an alternative.

Its a  very small sample, but ComicLinks selling of the Thor pages at a strong price... twice....shows that  there could be  an after market for these.

So net net a good experiece.  The two pieces look very slick, with (obviously) thick blacks and nice effects.  I love the simplicity and sophistication of Russell's art and I am glad I have a couple of examples. The fact they are printed on Marvel paper helps.  Russell added one little sketch of Storm on a post-it on each of the pieces, which is nice.  All the nice looking pieces from this and the previous issue have sold, so obviously there is demand for this kind of product.  Not sure if this means that there will be a market for re-sale.  In any case, at these price points (300 and 600 respectively) for this kind of quality I might buy again in the future, but I will be highly selective.

I think any comps not from 2020 are all stale at this point.  $175K may be too much, but, it may not be.  If it sold at that price, I really couldn't say that it would be the most egregious sale we've seen this year, not by a long shot.  I mean, we are in an environment where nobody is going to offer any good mainstream OA that is going to scream "wow, that's a good deal".  Plus, $175K is just the starting point for negotiations, presumably.

The Dark Knight Returns #1 Unused Splash and  and  The Complete Frank Miller Batman #1 Hardback Cover  are from 2019 and 2018.  Not 2020, but not  long ago either.  $175K is quite far off for a negotiation starting point.

  5. Nice Miller piece, but $175K it’s a bit too much.

Especially when you compare it  to the final result of the following pieces. Not exactly an apples to apples comparisson, but more like lemons to limes.

Frank Miller Batman: The Dark Knight Returns #1 Unused Splash Page 1 - $50,400

Frank Miller The Complete Frank Miller Batman #1 Hardback Cover - $43,200

Frank Miller Batman: The Dark Knight Returns (10th Anniversary Edition) - $41,825

As someone mentioned before, I would rather wait for a very nice interior page at this price point.
