  1. I would be happy with reuniting the KISS army: Rock n Roll All Night and party every day ..., Detroit, Rock City, I was made for loving you ! Vintage Roy still has his platform shoes. Comic book related as KISS met Scooby Doo. <3
  2. Does 'classic' rock mean 1980s bands like the Cars, Echo and the Bunnymen, Talking Heads, Blondie, or the 1970s Elton John, Fleetwood Mac, Heart?
  3. I see Goonies, as Stranger Things based on adventures of elementary and high school kids from the 1980s. Interesting background music as I have not heard that Echo and the Bunnymen song for ages.
  4. thanks for hiding the ending behind 'spoiler' tags. Just watched 3 episodes so far. Interesting how they mentioned X-men #134 (intro Dark Phoenix foreshadowing?) about 3 times. Like Preacher on tv better so far 5 episodes in though.
  5. Already sold 1 restored app. vf and 1 unrestored raw fn-. Great book. Tarzan b/w oversized comic used to be as important as Action #1 in 1970.
  6. I give it the same 7/10 rating. The 1 sheet movie poster design is too bland also. Jason Bourne movie will hopefully be better. In ST Beyond, about 6 major and 1 minor scenes were extra wide onto all 3 2-D screens. The most impressive I found was an overhead shot of the Enterprise saucer section outer hull.
  7. I would say it is the weakest of the 3 ST reboots. Bit too much Simon Pegg and his one liners in ST Beyond. Skip the $17 2D triple (3) screen, as the movie loses momentum when you pan left or scan right with your eyes to view the extra WIDE spcl fx. Decent ending plot wise.
  8. Conan O'Brien talk show also being taped at SDCC this whole week.
  9. Assume that it's a "peeler" joint? "Exotic escorts." Star Trek filmed in Vancouver, BC, Canada (and Dubai). Will try to catch it Friday.
  10. Kurtis J. Wiebe will be at a store signing at Golden Age Collectables on Granville Street, downtown Vancouver, BC on Sat. July 9/16. This writer/creator will be promoting his latest Dark Horse #1 and, I am sure, will be willing to sign Rat Queens.
  11. 1. By polarizing figure, I guess you mean an aggressive comics buyer wheeling and dealing every weekend across states? Like Harley does today traveling non-stop. Big difference now is advent of 3rd party grading and slabs, several competing online auction houses to help one sell choice comics faster at a good margin to the consignor, and eBay, CraigsList or kijiji ads to flush out long boxes of drek. 2. I just remember ads in Alan Light's TBG (pre-CBG for you youngsters) for the b/w Portfolios. 3. Just glad that Jay confirmed why DD #1 is common in hi-grade.
  12. Have not read most of this thread. I know very little about Preacher outside of the few issues I read in the #80s range. Downloaded the Preacher season one 1 hr tv pilot, and liked it. Glad the budget is under control by filming in the suburbs/ ranch land to look like Texas. Interesting cast of main and side characters with Preacher Jessie Custer, ex-girlfriend Tulip, and crazy Irish bloke. I can see Seth Rogen's hand in directing when the scene was ridiculous or extreme else that is what the Garth Ennis's Preacher comics were all about.
  13. Some unevenness in the pacing of the movie when it switched from Magneto's tragic storyline to some of the action scenes. Overall, I give it 7.5 out of 10. Thought they used too much CGI as I had just re-watched Mad Max: Fury Road on dvd in which George Miller mainly used real cars, trucks, stunt people and acrobats in his chase scenes. Don't think Jubilee spoke more than 1 line. Was she supposed to be chewing gum all the time? Don't even remember seeing Rogue. Young Jean Grey and Quicksilver scenes were well played. Movie still made sense by releasing Weapon X but it would have been a VERY long 1980s helicopter ride by Stryker to get from USA to AB, Canada thus lapse in logic. Perhaps astral plane battle is prelude of CGI for Dr Strange movie in Nov, 2016? Can't wait for Dr Strange movie with Cumberbatch, the Ancient One, Mordo, Brother Voodoo, etc. <3
  14. Do you mean put out a magazine to hype the new book market by trying to set prices in the marketplace instead of reporting on prices? Especially when they were caught with their pants down on several occasions with supposedly "hot books" on their Top 10 List guiding at double digit prices, when in fact they had not yet even been released due to publishing delays. I remember walking behind Jim Shooter and Chuck R at SDCC when Shooter was advising Rozanski to order an extra long box of Solar #10 black cover because "it was absolutely guaranteed to go up in the Wizard." It was the golden triangle of pump and dump: Shooter/Valiant Comics, and biggest brick n mortar USA franchise Mile High Comics for pre-orders, and biggest mail order shipper for 1 week old 'collectible' back issues/monthly Wizard hype mag. If a comicon flipper ran short, you could also reorder from Greg Buls.
  15. Was that Killing Joke 1st or 8th printing (scarce) for $150 Cdn that sold? Pretty common book (1st print) in Vancouver. Gas in Vancouver is about $1 US/litre or $4 US/gallon this week.
  16. Formerly known as Prince passed away so this comic is hot this week.
  17. Is this any different than what happened with Figment? I think it's actually got more legs than Figment, but it's no different than any other comic that gets hot with a smallish print run, sells out and people want it. Or people are made to think they want it... The Slave Labor Graphics The Haunted Mansion title from 2005 had some terrific covers. I particularly like the cover on issue #6, although they are all good covers. I wonder if those will see any movement. Talk about small print run. The cover to Slave Labor's Haunted Mansion #7 (2006, scarce last issue) looks like Marvel/Disney's cover to new #1.
  18. Is this for the Scottie Young variant or regular cover for this Marvel/Disney kid's title? Low print run compared to a super-hero Marvel (e.g. new Black Panther #1) , I imagine.
  19. I greatly enjoyed the sharp wit and snappy writing on the live action Tick season 1 dvd. My co-worker seemed to enjoy the cartoon just as much. Basically a preview of Deadpool and Deadpool movie where the 'hero' or sidekick(s) are making fun of themselves.
  20. Walburton's humor was good as the Tick circa 2002 but does it hold up in 2016? Have to re-watch the dvd to compare:
  21. Better to re-read JLI # 18, 19 1st Bastiche Lobo vs Guy Gardiner.
  22. I am surprised the Warburton Tick photo-cover comic is not broken out in the Overstreet. A hidden gem for the purist?
  23. Watched Expanse to episode 6 so far. I would rank tv sci-fi series as: 1. Dark Matter: more hand to hand combat action than Expanse 2. The Expanse 3. The 100: disjointed Season 3 episode 1 that I downloaded.
  24. It's like Playboy mag: sometimes the centerfold is better than the cover. 10c for All-American #16: you are killing me. Action # 13(?) centerfold is great with double <3 page ad for Superman #1.
