  1. Any profit is good profit. But when you're 4 figures in the hole and not exactly pumping and dumping product, a $50 hit doesn't seem terribly exciting to me it's going to take a while to get rid of that hole unless he finds an incredible deal somewhere or invests a large amount of money in 1-2 books and we've seen how that can go. Yes and no. The debt can be paid off quickly if I don't make mistakes like overpaying and making sure I can make a profit on them.
  2. Any profit is good profit. But when you're 4 figures in the hole and not exactly pumping and dumping product, a $50 hit doesn't seem terribly exciting to me True but what's exciting about this to me is I'm getting a handle on my emotions which will make more profit and less mistakes in the long run at least with overpaying for comics.
  3. You're right it's nothing to complain about but had I acted as fast as my friend did I would have at least had two copies at 67 shipped but I didn't know what to do since they were voldemort's copies.
  4. The point of this right now isn't to have it overtake my job right now but do this as a side thing. Getting out of debt is just one of those steps as well as learning to be more aggressive in my offers and actually understanding the market of the book I'm buying as with the DV 3 CGC 9.8 Well, you didn't know the market of that DV #3, someone told you about it. The jury is still out on that one and don't quote the $90 and $100 sale because it needs to go up a LOT more for it to matter to you. Yes you have a point but those sales were enough to push the 90 day average from 65 dollar to 74 which is about what I paid for shipping. Also another copy just sold for 110 and I watching the book before I bought it as well, the fact that people are willing to pay over gpa means this news is catching on and people are realizing this. I know my friend is that one that told me about it but I chose to listen to him as well. What is the minimum price you could sell your DV #3 at and feel happy about it? I'm not saying selling it now either, I mean after any hype hits. I would content with selling it for 140-150 which isn't too much of a stretch considering what they're going for right now and copies under 110 are being bought quickly. Is that really worth your time? You paid $87, if it sells for $150 minus whatever fee / shipping your net could be $50 or less. I think unless you're going to start dealing in volume you should avoid books like these...just my opinion. And yes, I realize at this point any profit is a good profit Yes it will be worth my time and I could have done better had I acted faster. I will try to sell this copy on facebook or on the boards here to avoid fees as much as I can.

  6. Also if anyone's interested the variant update of the DV 1:25 CGC 9.6 sold for 175 That's a 105 dollar increase in just 6 days while the 9.8 remains at a 90 day average of 94 until someone caves.
  7. If you hate this thread so much why bother to read it much less comment on it? But to answer your question I'm not sure ask a mod. I tend to agree. Nobody is forcing anyone to read this journal. People who're asking for it to be shut down are the ones with the issue IMHO. That's not entirely fair Casey. I only suggested closing it for a bit as the topic switched to Gabes physical medical issues. Surely that should be 'out of bounds'? Gabe just isn't self aware enough to understand the ramifications of putting his entire medical history up for all to see and mock. What happens if he names his medical specialists in this thread. Keep it to comics and it's fair game. Medical issues should remain out of the public arena, and certainly not a subject of ridicule. Not suggesting for a second that you would mock someone with a medical condition, but Christ on a stick, there are enough here who would, and do. What next - mocking Hector because of his height? I think if Gabe brings it up it's a fair topic of conversation, if he's uncomfortable with a topic I think he's self aware enough to ask people to stop. Agree - also agree with gabe - if people do not like it - stop reading it - gabe is well capable of stating if things cross a line. Indeed I am.

Agreed if something makes me uncomfortable you guys will know.
  9. How is buying anything reducing debt? Because if I buy something that I can make a profit on I'll quickly reduce debt as opposed to it taking forever. Unfortunately, I can see as you get more "deals" it'll improve your confidence which will cause you to be more wreckless with your purchase. You've already seen that with your previous purchases but after a few more good buys and sells you'll be back to thinking yourself as a baller again. If he was wreckless he probably wouldn't be in debt. So he is in debt because his purchases required some thinking and research on his part (not at all effective), however if he just made the purchase in a reckless/careless manner then it's possible he might have made a profit. That actually makes sense. He needs to shoot from the hip while not letting his emotions take control, but also not overthinking it and being more aggressive with his purchases. One of his other challenge is he buys into the hype of the "next hot book" and his greed takes over. He can say it's his emotions that causes him to make mistakes but ultimately it's his greed and ignorance that are his downfall. $87 for a spec book isn't terrible, though when you're 4 figures in the hole it's probably not wise. Buying raw copies on the cheap might've been the better move for him in that situation. If the Hulk #180 pans out that's a good deal. I would've made that deal, so I can't fault him for that one. That last book was an absolute no-brainer and he got a very good deal on that. Chasing spec books or movie books will hurt him if he doesn't control this. I agree that raw books would have be a safer move for him but it seems he is looking for bragging rights to selling a high dollar book even though it may bring a small return or loss. I think the belief is that selling a $500 book with only a $40 profit sound a hell of a lot better than selling a $50 book and making a $40 profit off of it. I don't know if he would ever admit that, but I think you may be right. Selling book X that's only worth $50 is not as "sexy" as a high grade ASM #129. I think there is a part of him that likes thinking he's a "wheeler and dealer" of collectibles. No it doesn't sound as sexy you're right about that but I'm taking a liking to smaller books as well since they can make me a profit, prices can be easier negotiated and the risk is smaller.

The second option is better and I buy bigger books because in most cases they sell faster then all my other comics. I just need to stop overpaying for them is all and get in early like cover prices so I'll ask my friends about that as well.

Yes I overpaid for the DV 3 unlike my friend that bought 3 copies for 67 shipped each. I came underneath his basement price so that at least was a good thing. The Hulk 180 should arrive monday or tuesday so I'll update you guys.

You're right almost every-time I bought a comic I would get greedy and quickly buy it thinking that I would cash in. I think it's ok to buy them but I have to be smart about it, not overpay and get better with my timing for buying.

Getting out of debt is just one of those steps as well as learning to be more aggressive in my offers and actually understanding the market of the book I'm buying as with the DV 3 CGC 9.8 You are missing the point. Here is the point -----> . You are't here or here or here or here maybe here? NOPE Here? Oh there is Gabe ----> He is telling you that instead of "trying" and yes that is in quotes for a reason to flip comics. Get 40 hrs a week instead of 20hrs a week and your debit would be wiped a hell of a lot quicker. 20hrs x $10hr = $200 week...which means in less than 2 months you be but instead you keep on swimming up stream. I do understand what he's saying but I also said I'm not doing this to earn more money then my job it's just a side thing for now.

  18. Just a year after I was born and I don't think I'll need 50 sessions maybe 10 to completely get rid of everything. I will ask what my situation is and what I need to do about it. You use this line for everything you fail at. You know you're not going to do anything because you're either not going to go or it's because it's too much work. I was talking about the dermatologist and what could it hurt to ask?

  20. How is buying anything reducing debt? Because if I buy something that I can make a profit on I'll quickly reduce debt as opposed to it taking forever. You do realize that if you NEVER purchased a comic book, or a coin to flip, you would be ahead of the game thousands of dollars? If being static is more successful than being dynamic...time to change the way you do things. Yes I do realize that and you may not agree but doing things better is at least being able to get better deals, buy under gpa and have a better understanding of what I buy. But your not doing that. You're right for the DV3 CGC 9.8 I paid over gpa even my friend told me that but I knew that prices would rise, there have also been 2 sales for 100 and 90 dollars. So the market is moving up and again this is before the trailer and announcement. Don't listen to any of these guys Gabe. Speculate on comics, coins, games, pogs, go for it all. Borrow money, blow by your budget, use credit cards, you gotta spend money to make money. Yes and no there are cases where you can make money without spending it but for the most part you're right. Atta boy, take my awful advice and ignore all of the wisdom in this thread. Doubt the doubters and live your life your way. Oh? I never said I'd do what you said. I agreed that it takes money to make money nothing more and I've made good buys and finds it's just they're overshadowed by all my mistakes. The Hulk 180 CGC 5.0 SS is my most recent find so I'm curious how that will work out.

I can see that happening to but I have friends that are blunt and would deflate my head if that ever happened. I can't fear making my choices and I'm watching myself when I'm buying things so that when I think something is a good deal I stop to think about it because my emotions are the first thing that come out.
