  2. You're looking at the world through AF #15 colored glasses.
  3. Does anyone have a scan of the CGC 9.2 copy? If so, could they please message or email it to me? Thx!
  4. Impressive... yes, the Marriott. The 10pm nightly fireworks are a nice touch to celebrate Canada 150. Very cool surprise while we were watching the falls change colors. Lou and I got married there a few years ago. Best hotel in the area for a combination of room and view. Glad you got to see it. I'm pretty sure the Fireworks are most weekends in the summer but they may have had something special for the 150th. The Niagara Falls Comic con happens right behind that hotel in the Scotiabank convention center. If you get a chance to walk around, Clifton Hill is main tourist area. There's a Casino (I'm not a gambler), lots of fun houses and haunted houses and touristy stuff to do for a day. Glad you got to enjoy my neck of the woods for a bit. Have a great trip!
  5. Probably true in this case, but it may be a slow news week in the Western District of Washington. Or they may have received multiple complaints against the same guy. Either way, it's worth a few minutes to type it up. I would definitely give it a try if I had the time to pursue it. I tried to pursue an internet theft a few years ago but the local cops (Santa Rosa, CA I believe) just shrugged and said there was little they could do with international theft unless I filled out out a whole bunch of paperwork and pursued it across the border (I'm from Canada). Of course international internet laws are always evolving but it's not very easy to pursue anyone criminally over the border even if you have all the evidence in the world. If it's not financially viable most people drop it.
  6. How does it compare to other movies this time of year? July is a massive vacation months. You also have Disney con going on last weekend in Anaheim and San Diego this weekend. Those two cons alone will pull millions out of the economy. Add in vacationing families and I can see a sudden drop. I could be wrong but we're in full summer vacation mode now as a family.
  7. Medium level. Not total noobs with lead feet but not college pro. Some guys have been playing ball for a long time. I know Ben / @Primetime can play - he's played in previous years. @G.A.tor used to be able to shoot 3's with his eyes closed but now he's old. tee hee I've been playing for about 18 years. Anybody can join.
  8. It's random checks. I never got looked at twice all of last year nor did anyone around me whenever I was coming or going. People did mention they happened occasionally but it's not as though they're checking even 50% of the entrants as they know it would create mass fury given how long that would take. Just fair warning that dealers have almost lost all of their passes and their booth spots for getting caught sharing badges. Fair warning.
  9. Basketball in Sand Diego 2017. Anybody in? Please reply in the thread in General.
  10. Anybody want to play early Friday morning? likely around 7 AM or so? Right behind the convention center. I know GAtor and I will. Jeff form Seattle was going to play but he just injured himself (heal quick, buddy). Anybody else in?
  11. It's true - I have to say it's pretty cool to see how successful they have been with their mission. The whole point of comic con is to increase the awareness and appreciation for "comic and related popular artforms." As the world changes, it's pretty neat that something which used to be SO niche, has become such a staple in the larger popular culture. The last 10 years have seen an explosion of comic book character & content into the mainstream and that has obviously been experienced by Comic Con too. It's pretty fun to see these types of subculture get built up around something which just 7-10 years ago wasn't big enough for most non-comic book fans to notice, much less care about. I'm a little out of touch but it sounds like Disney had their own Disney Con in Anaheim this past weekend (yep, one weekend before SD). The fact that Disney pulled Marvel out of SDCC and now runs their own show is impressive. If you haven't been to the Anaheim CC it's an impressive place and possibly holds more people than SDCC. We sure have come a long way since getting bullied and beat up for being comic nerds.
  12. That's no different than the Marvel cinematic universe. They've changed much if not most about it and yet it still is used as an argument for driving up comic prices.
  13. It may be an expensive iconic book, but Pep 22 holds zero interest to me. @piper BTW, I definitely know you know your GA stuff. My comments were more directed at younger collectors who have no sense of perspective when it cam to the early market. As far as interest, it's all personal preference, right? But iPep #22 is a book that is truly rare in grade, it features one of the most iconic comic book characters of the last 70 years and that character is still ongoing in many forms of media. He just doesn't wear a costume. You can argue that Archie is a top 5 all time comic book character. His digests and comics still sell and people watch the various shows. My teenage daughter loves Riverdale.
  14. Unfortunately, law enforcement is usually too busy frying bigger fish to deal with a comic book thief for a few $K. That's the new way of the world.
  15. But that sub-culture has only appeared in the last 6 or 7 years. Prior to that (and even as soon as 6 or 7 years ago) you could still find hotel rooms cheap (and not locked down by SDCC). I got rooms for about $150 a room at the W on Broadway literally a few weeks before the show. Now? Forget it. Prior to this frenzy, San Diego wasn't about scarcity. It was about the con and the city.
  16. Are you saying that AF #15 is not for hardcore comic collectors? I was born in 1970 and love BA and SA books and although I was more of an FF fan than a Spidey fan I can't deny Spidey's popularity. But that still doesn't change the fact that things go in and out of favor. Nothing is constant.
  17. Another highly revered key book that has fallen off the radar for all but the most intense GA collectors? Red Raven #1. Do any AF #15 collectors even know what Red Raven #1 is? Highly doubtful.
  18. Isn't Pep 22 worth more in basically every grade? Yes, you're right. I wasn't sure but I was rushing and didn't have time to fact check it. Grade for grade it's worth more than AF #15. Pep #22 went from 'who would pay that much for an Archie comic?' to 'yup, it's a blue chip GA key' in the last 10 years. The perception used to be that it was a cool rare book but nobody really wanted to pay any real money for it. I've recounted this story many times but I bought my 1st Pep #22 in WW Philadelphia after dealers balked at the price all weekend. I thought it was a steal. I was right. It's considered a mega key now.
