  1. It worked for me once but I couldn't figure out how to do it a second time. I use the highlighting method for now.
  2. A key problem is the inability to nest quotes. I quoted Arch's post, which quoted Roy's post, but my post doesn't include Roy's original post. A lot of times, particularly on the GA board, we end up having an extended discussion of some point that requires a post to include several previous posts to be intelligible. (Granted that having too many posts nested together can also be a pain, as well as confusing.) Even in this instance, not having Roy's original post makes it harder to understand Arch's response. If my post were referring to something in Roy's post that Arch's response doesn't refer to, then it would be tough for someone reading my post to figure out what's going on. Sqeggs, there are actually two ways to quote the people who you want to quote. 1) use bababooey's method 2) you can actually highlight all the posts you want to quote. Once they are highlighted a small black box pops up and asks if you want to quote it all. Click on the black box and it automatically quotes everything you've highlighted. Yes, both methods are a little more tedious than the old software but it is possible. If you want that option back the best way to do it would be to make a specific thread in the Change Requests And Voting forum and see if people vote it up. Link below to the forum. https://www.cgccomics.com/boards/forum/81-change-requests-and-voting/
  3. Screw you, Roy Do I at least get dinner and drinks 1st?
  4. I'd say "NO" emphatically. They DON'T build things like they used to. Remember all those companies that were known for outstanding quality? They no longer exist. And why? Because the general public doesn't want to buy a car or a piece of clothing and wear it forever. They want something new and shiny every week / month / year. I worked for Mercedes Benz for 11 years and for 11 year prior worked alongside Benz / Porsche / BMA / Rolls / Jaguar, etc. Nothing is built like it was decades ago. You used to buy a car that would actually last a lifetime. Now it's designed to last 4 years. I don't care what the manufacturers say. The general public 'say' they want quality but what they mean is that they don't really want to pay for it. They just want it at the cheapest possible price. The problem is that there is a direct correlation between price and quality. If you want better you have to be willing to pay for better, but most people won't. They'll just stop buying the more expensive product and then the manufacturer will have to drop the price by cutting corners to stay competitive and voila, back where we started. We're a short sighted society.
  5. That was the 1st thing that caught my eye.
  6. I think Arch is soliciting both suggestions from the public on what they might want changed (with very specific thread topics of what people want changed) and then will more or less prioritize what changes and when based on votes (the more votes, the more important the community feels the change is).
  7. Agreed. Although for me it's not the white that bothers me, it's how much white is in the areas where there is writing and posting. I'd be OK with an over all white background on the margins if there was some more contrast in the thread and post areas in the center of the page where all the content is.
  8. Arch, I see the vote. Currently sitting at '8' with my upvote. The problem is that I can also pull that number down as many times as I like thereby negating other people's votes. That vote option should only be allowed once by any single user otherwise it's open to being manipulated by unscrupulous individuals just like the old rating systems. (of which there are always a few). Maybe a poll with up or down? I think this suggestion forum with voting is just what the doctor ordered though. Great idea.
  9. Agree. The lack of contrast between posts, threads and replies is what I find annoying. I'm in my 40's and my near sight is not what it used to be so I find it much more difficult to focus on areas that I should be focusing on. That is where the old forum's skin excelled.
  10. I tried to find the old thread I started a few months ago on this same topic and I could not find it.
  11. Blame them Roy, blame them! You must be a noob. I'm the whipping boy, here. The mascot. Not the trail blazer.
  12. Looks more to me like an even split - low side vs. high side, with a small number in the middle. How is that obvious that people think more is better? I do think people want more density in general, though. I just went and did a recount of how many threads are visible on the 1st page of Comics General for the 1st time. I assume you upped the number greatly as now I count north of 25. I don't remember that being there yesterday (unless I'm mistaken). That's what I meant by more. So now there are more threads per page viewable, which is a step towards the positive but they are still not very 'dense' as you described it. Lots of 'show' - (meaning stylized functionality) but also still lots of wasted space.
  13. They try very hard to get the double conversion. My PayPal funds are all in USD, but when I go to transfer money, it switches my currency to CAD temporarily for that transaction, even though the other end is receiving the funds in USD. It's just irritating to me because it's an easy fix (for each transaction), but I'm sure they catch a ton of people with it. Shameful really. It's legalized robbery. Because banks operate under different rules than normal humans.
  14. No blame. Just hoping that people band together and the upper management gets the feedback they need.
  15. I posted this elsewhere and I think it's worth reposting. I agree that the way the new boards look suck orangutan nuggets but if you guys really want to make a change, rather than everyone complain about it in every corner of the forum in a way where most complaints are lost at sea, people should make concerted efforts to start and post in threads directly on topic so that those in charge can see the unified protest. Right now most complaints are like a message in a bottle being thrown out at sea. You're hoping someone sees it. Everyone just randomly complaining in all corners is going to guarantee that most points get missed as they are diluted among regular conversation. The onus is on the protester to make their voice heard loud and clear. That's my opinion. Feel free to disagree with it .
  16. Mine were 25 /30 - I think I voted 25/50 but I'd be fine with either. Changing pages is a waste of time IMO.
  17. I think it's pretty obvious from the protests as well as the poll that most people think more is better. My preference is always to see more in one shot than less and then I can zoom in on topics of interest.
  18. I had a guy in Canada try to pay me in $US (I am an in Canada) and he could not find a conversion so that I could receive $US. I had to invoice him to receive $US. I have yet to try myself. Paypal recently released a new update to their policy and rules and I haven't had a chance to read it as I was on the road. I wondered if it covered these changes. However they explain it away right now, the 'glitch' still benefits them greatly by double dipping on all conversations at their exorbitant rate. You have to wonder how much of a glitch it really is and how willing they'd be to fix it if it was costing them rather than benefiting them.
  19. Awesome. Thanks for the quick reply. I understand that CGC is probably going for a corporate color scheme to look like the rest of their website but you really need to get some contrast in ala the old site. Otherwise, right now this is almost unreadable. RE: density, more posts or threads per page - whatever you call it, yes, there is just too little on a page right now. Some other great suggestions above as well.
  20. It's weird, we live an hour and a half away and I have yet to see any snow all winter. We had maybe two feet of snow before Christmas, much of it melted away, had several freezing rain falls, several snow storms, another foot or so of snow after Christmas and now much of it has melted down. This is typical for us West of the city.
  21. Thanks for the update! Arch, will you guys be tweaking the white areas - just way too much of it the amount of posts per page the over all color scheme of the forum - not enough contrast right now between new posts, old posts, font and background, etc. There's probably more but these seem to be the biggest complaints from what I've read.
  22. I expect a full tutorial on how to use this site by noon tomorrow.
  23. And this thread by Bronze Bruce was actually supposed to be a positive one. I remember some boardies said they were leaving and not coming back in 2007 because of the change. I absolutely hate this new color scheme but as I get used to the functionality it gets better. And I don't like change at all.
  24. So what you're saying is that the board software will also change personalities?
