  1. I know this is sacrilegious but I've always been underwhelmed by Ditko covers. They always lacked an 'oomph' of some sort. He was a great storyteller though.
  2. I'm with you guys. LOVE that cover. I used to have dreams about it as a kid.
  3. It's so well done it puts most of the other competitor shows to shame.
  4. I'm not sure I agree. Look at the uproar over Fantastic Four (before people saw the film). And over both Amazing Spider-Man films. Ultimate FF and Ultimate Spidey did not go over well with movie audiences when Fox and Sony each decided to materially deviate from the Silver Age template for these properties. In contrast, Marvel Studios' output has pretty much stayed true to the comics. I think fans don't mind a little tweaking to, or modestly updating, a certain superhero's mythology, but big changes don't go over well. Thus, the pushback over Eisenberg's Luthor. Take Eiseberg out of last week's trailer, and the amount of whining over BvS comes way, way down. The uproar over FF seemed more to be about Johnny being African American more than anything else, aside from poor story telling. The worst complaints I heard about Spidey were story telling related. Too much going on in the Sandman / Venom movie and Electro being poorly executed. My understanding of Eisenberg's Luthor is not about his hair, it's about his voice - and nobody knows what Luthor's voice was like in the comics. I still think that fan's tolerance has much increased over differences between the comics over the years, especially since comics themselves rarely hold true to their character's original roots anymore.
  5. It's not fading or scans. It's just color strike at the printer.
  6. I guess you haven't read any of my posts. I know there are a few people who complain about it. It's just not as prevalent as it used to be. I think part of that is because retcons and rewrites even in the comics has become much more common.
  7. And that is why there is always the possibility hardcore comic book fans are not going to see their beloved stories played out 100% on the big screen. It needs to grab more than that smaller part of the population. I think from the general reaction, Warner may have hit the right points. if they get elements from the comic books that they want to do for the films because it can work and evolve the characters & story then go for it. Marvel has done it with their films some have worked and some not so much but still played a part in it. 1960's comic book stories rarely translate well directly to the screen. Lots of stuff from any publisher would need to be rewritten and adapted to the times. Marvel's rewrite of the Marvel cinematic universe was also precipitated by their movie and property rights - which is why Stark became the center of the cinematic universe rather than the FF which were the center of the Marvel comic universe for decades. I know all of this is obvious but my point really is that we've gotten pretty far from the attitude of previous decades where fanboys and girls were complaining about how the movie 'wasn't true to the comics'. That used to be the primary complaint even up until a few years ago. People almost never complain about it anymore, which is a huge shift. It's just about good story telling in general now.
  8. Before this copy I've never had a 9.8 copy that didn't have some color rubbed off at either the top staple (in the yellow band) or the bottom staple (next to Nightcrawler's hip) so that's what impressed me about this copy. I don't watch Schmell's auctions.
  9. This is by far the nicest copy of this book I have ever seen. Clean spine, no color loss at the staples (common even on 9.8 copies) and no corner wear at the spine. There is a small scratch on the book, otherwise I would have that that a shot at 9.9 was possible. Literally a near flawless copy.
  10. One last thought...people still also don't know what DC haven't shown in the trailer.
  11. It's obviously a sequel. I still don't understand. That was me. I'd bet money that it will break $1BIL My point was that SPECTRE implied the movie won't do well. I say it will. In fact, I think it has a good chance at doing $1.5BIL and reaching Avengers numbers.
  12. They've missed too many opportunities to let this one pass again. They have a limited amount of time to capitalize on Marvel's success and I think there is probably strong behind the scenes pressure to compete with Civil War, so they don't have the luxury of time to start from scratch. It's actually a brilliant move on DC's part. 1) They're bringing together their 3 best characters into one film which is instant fan base 2) bringing in Doomsday capitalizes on the crowd that were buying comics in the 90's - probably fandom's biggest market right now as they are the majority with a nostalgic attachment and will be in their 30's with money to spend 3) they're riding on Marvel's coat tails and bringing an alternative on the Marvel Civil War conflict - something Marvel has already set the stage for. It's just good business. It's why automalls exist. You stay close to your competition. It would be bad business IMO to ignore what your main competitor is doing and start from scratch like they don't exist. As I said, they don't really have that option. And as far as future stories go, you can have spin off solo stories (both young and old Batman), Superman and WW spin offs, JLA, Justice Society - anything you want. DC had to go big or go home at this point. That's the way I see it.
  13. This movie will break $1BIL. It may, but will still be well behind: Avartar, Harry Potter, Jurassic World, Star Wars the force Awakens (which is going to crush everything), Avengers, and many others. It will do well but not hit the stratosphere. Man of Steel grossed $291,045,518 domestic and $377,000,000 foreign. I see BvS doing better than that, but I predict (yes just a prediction) about 400 mil domestic, and 500 mil foreign coming in just shy of 1 bil. I don't understand your point. I was replying to SPECTRE_nWo / SOT / I need a new name every week / John-who-can't-tell-a-good-movie-from-bad-one that this movie won't be a flop. MoS made nearly $700K - so it was a success, yes? What all of those other movies have to do with this discussion I have no idea.
  14. Way to paint with a broad brush. Some of the critics are DC only collectors. Way to interpret 'some' as 'broad'. Your sentence structure implies that the 'some' are the ones that don't like the trailer.
  15. Way to paint with a broad brush. Some of the critics are DC only collectors.
  16. He wasn't really a full grown Superman yet. Man Of Steel was really the origin of how Clark learns to become Superman and form his ideals. He was learning his values as the movie went along. Plus, the gratuitous destruction and Zod dying needed to happen to set this film up. How else would Zod die if Supes didn't kill him?
  17. In the trailer he has gray streaks in his hair. He's supposed to be old.
  18. I agree. It was a terrific movie. People complain about the gratuitous destruction but a) How would you expect a battle between multiple kryptonians to turn out? Sanitized like a 1955 DC comic? b) It laid the groundwork for Wayne's battle against Superman. It was a brilliant move. It was. I loved every second of it. I'd give Snyder and Affleck the benefit of the doubt at this point over the opinion of a fanboy chat forum. Remember, the fan club petitioned to have Affleck removed from the role a few years ago. I knew he'd make a great Batman. They're both moguls at the top of their game and they seem to be pulling together quite the epic story. It's a rehash on Gene Hackman's take from the 70's but they need a stark contrast to Superman and Batman's 'stiff upper lip', stoic demeanor. And I enjoy watching Jesse act. Again, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. Agreed, although Clark could be a bit more goofy. Christopher Reeve's rendition of Clark was amazing. Agree again. Come on people - everyone is hoarding DKR 3 and 4. Like we didn't know Superman and Batman were going to duke it out. Like we didn't know Doomsday was heavily rumored. Like we didn't know WW makes an appearance. What were you expecting? To be taken by surprise like it's 1986 all over again? Again, I give the directors and producers benefit of the doubt and except some surprises. Me neither. See my above. I'd add a #8 8. Can we please talk comic book speculation in another thread? Seriously.
