  1. I have no idea who you're talking about but that's why I qualified it with trusting your own eyes or the seller. I won't buy if I'm not confident about the grade.
  2. Everyone is different. Sometimes people just can't be bothered to have a book graded. I guess it's a matter of how much you trust your eyes (as well as the seller).
  3. In a case like this I'd rather he didn't post a grade and just large pics and a price. yah, I guess I'm starting to get it...although I think I'd mention the flaws....but I guess the big pics are enough. "Structurally perfect except the spine tic across from the hat and the two scratches by the top staple. I'm not too sure how that's graded, but please take that into account." Yup. Point out the defects, post clear pics and then buyers choose. I have no problem buying comics like that. And I'd only ask for a return if something was missed by the seller or wasn't shown clearly in the pics. I'd rather that than some seller say it's a 9.8 with a press when it obviously isn't.

  5. Fox has had a few days to spin this. As has Trank. Ultimately, it's Fox's film, Fox's money and Fox's flop. If they waiting too long to put out another film and then pressured Trank, that is again Fox. Could be wrong but that's how I see it.
  6. They'll need something to make Batman / Superman relevant again after BvS. Makes sense.
  7. It's a great town. Did you walk through the courtyard in City Hall? The architecture on the underside of that building is gorgeous.
  8. The space race and the 'Commie scare' were real things, though. I know it was real (I heard about it in my history class ) , but if you are telling a modern tale it doesnt work. Captain America set in 1940 worked, right? That's what I meant by time piece. Set it back 60 years and film it like Mad Men (as I heard another boardie say in the WC).
  9. The space race and the 'Commie scare' were real things, though. That's what would make the time piece idea work so well - it had a basis in reality. Sure, you'd have to rewrite some of the science to make it contemporary but I love this idea of making it a 1961 time piece and then moving the family into the future for future episodes.
  10. And then encounter Namor in the 2nd sequel. Doctor Doom in the 3rd sequel.
  11. TurkeyMAddAsia has lots of different colors!!
  12. I didn't see any answers to my question from a few days ago. Which parts of the FF movie come from the Ultimate series? The Planet Zero origin? Sue's adoption? Doom's origin? Doom's look? I have zero problems with good, artistic changes to the old canon characters. I thought the Green Goblin's new take in Ultimate Spider-man was phenomenal and believable. A terrific contemporary change to the Spidey Universe even though I'm an old school Marvel fan. Which of the FF movie points had their roots in the Ultimate series?
  13. It sure is. It's a work of art that is near flawless. Except ruining the ending with the idiotic idea of making Dr. Manhattan the threat. Terrible idea. The entire idea of the squid was to make a common enemy for the world to rally around and unite. Dr. Manhattan was a US weapon. Just because he attacked NYC why would Russia want to unite with the US? Because he would level the whole world and not just the US. Hey, I liked it.

  15. It's odd that you come up with these numbers so consistently. About the worst I ever get is 6 seconds or so and that's rare. Earlier today, I disabled cache and reloaded a page every ten seconds for ten or fifteen minutes to see if I was just missing the spike... nothing. Everything was fast. I can't really think of anything that would be so particular to individual users that some would be fast as some would be slow. Especially if most of their load time is accounted for by the time spent on queries - because that is all server side. I post these screen shots from work and from home. Two different Internet providers. But that shouldn't be taken into consideration. I like to think that this slowdown is happening to everyone, but not everybody is reporting the slowdowns in this thread. I, and a couple of other users have been more diligent in posting our results. Again, I only post screen shots of half of the slowdowns I get because I'm lazy. And I only post the ones above 10 seconds. These numbers make it look like your own internet connection may be a problem also. So that 17 second spike spent on the queries is definitely high. But what's interesting is that you have an even longer delay just downloading the page. Also, I am not seeing how the speed of Ditch's Internet connection has anything to do with the times he posted. He could be using a 1200 baud modem and the time for that particular page to be generated would still have been 59.237 seconds. Or am I missing something? Could the server path be part of the problem? Maybe certain areas have some sort of commonality? I rarely see pages longer than 15 seconds but I still see below 15 seconds far too often.
  16. I'd take that stupid asinine character off of that list. He appeared only twice from 1961 to 1976. I generally can't stand impish characters, so screw that noise. I'd put the Wizard, Thundra or Diablo in there instead as a "key" FF character. Hell, The Brute and Darkoth are more important characters to the FF than Impossible Man is. One thing a Marvel movie has capitalized on is humor. It's one of the reasons their franchises are so successful. I can see the Impossible Man being used not as a primary story line but for comic relief. And issue #176 is one of the best storylines every. It was Deadpool level comedy decades before there was a Deadpool.
  17. There were 15 or 16 people in the theater for FF. On opening weekend. On a Saturday afternoon. With clouds and rain looming outside.
  18. I have been unable to find a list of total net worth but even if it's $100's of Billions, if Fox is 'only' an $11BIL company in a much larger portfolio and Disney is a $74BIL company and their primary focus is making comic book or fantasy movies (which is their primary focus as nothing else I can think of can generate $1BIL per business deal (AND have a proven track record AND continue to increase in market share over time) and they can make multiples at a time) then I don't see RM pouring millions or billions into a war of attrition on a long shot. I'd see smart money at either partnering up with Marvel and splitting profits or just selling for an obscene amount of money if Marvel plans to continue to starve out Fox. Had FF been a blockbuster hit things would be different but it isn't. It's a public disgrace, from drug abuse rumors to poor reviews to a financial loss. And it's the 3rd (relatively) bad movie for a franchise. In any case, no matter how I analyze it at this point Marvel has a highly successful track record, the clout to starve out Fox and they seem to basically hold all the cards. PS. I will say that I enjoyed seeing the 1st two FF movies but it was more blind fanboy romance than film quality. I waited decades for a Surfer movie, ever since Stan announced one coming in the 80's in a Bullpen Bulletin and then it never happened.
  19. Fox may eventually get a good FF movie but how many bad movies will financiers, investors or fans allow before they stop buying into it. Or the general public? How many stinkers can a movie company put out before the general public gives up? Generally 1 or 2 bad movies is enough to bury a franchise for decades and Fox doesn't have that much time anymore. Not only do they have pressure to put out a good movie they have to make the general public and investors forget about 3 bad movies. That's business suicide. A smart investor is going to look at the clock, realize that now is the time to make a profit, not 10 years from now, and cash in. I could be wrong but that's how I see it.
  20. For those that read the Ultimate run of FF, do any of these story details line up with the movie? To me the only thing that is FF about this movie are the character names and some of the powers (I think even Sue's powers were modified slightly, weren't they?).
  21. Disney / Marvel. I'm pretty sure their net worth is multiples of what Fox's is. Fox is owned by the News Corporation, i.e. Rupert Murdoch. Calculating the net assets of that conglomerate and weighing it against Disney's is a tough thing to do. All I could really say is I have no idea except that Murdoch owns a bigger chunk of the planet's media than anyone else. I googled Rupert Murdoch net worth as $13BIL but Fox's net worth as $11BIL so not sure. Disney is apparently at about $74BIL.
