VintageComics got a reaction from zosocane in "I can't believe you spent that much on a comic book"
The first expensive book I ever bought when Lou and I got together was a pretty big 5 figure book.
I walked up to her at a show and flashed it with a smile. She asked how much it cost.
I replied with the dollar amount.
Her reply? "As long as you can pay the bills and it makes you happy."
I never understood people who balk at spending a lot of money on a collectible, which often hold their value, compared to dropping huge money on car, a vacation or a ball of crack-cocaine - all of which lose their value upon purchase.
Spouses? Rejoice your husband has a comic habit and not a cocaine habit.

VintageComics got a reaction from Ken Aldred in Stan Lee - No longer doing public signings
The abuse of selling Stan's Sigs after posing as a 'fan' is why I stated he doesn't really need to sign anything any more.
If it's the fan experience, both sides can have that experience without a signature, and if you simply MUST have a Stan sig, it's likely the most abundant sig in the hobby.
Again, just my opinions as a person. I will admit that I'm not a sig guy at all so my opinion is biased by that but I have bought Stan Lee sig books in the past just to own one.
My one and only meeting with Stan was both funny and a little revealing at the same time.
I bumped into him at Wizard World Chicago as he was entering a restaurant and I stated to him "I know this happens a lot..."
He replied smiling, stating "Oh son, it happens far too often."

It's a dark corner of the hobby when someone worries about the quality of a sig more than the well being of the person.

    He doesn't need the money.
    He doesn't need the pressure.
If he truly enjoys meeting the fans, he could do so without the monetary and logistical pressures being imposed on him.
It's becoming increasingly hard to believe that he isn't simply being sucked dry by his management and his fans.
At this point, even if I wanted a sig I wouldn't ask one of him, knowing what I know now.
I can just buy his sig online on nearly anything he's ever worked on with no more pressure or impediment to him.

I didn't think whether or not the trunk was opened since 1955 was worth debating.
    Nope and yes.
My guess is just as legit as anyone else's at this point.

No, I said I wouldn't judge it as a scam on just the fact that an Action #1 was the only book found.
    But nice try. ;- )

On that alone I wouldn't judge the story.
There have been plenty of finds that have defied logic.
Action #1 found in the walls of a house but no other comics found.
Superman #1 sewn into an armchair but no other comics.
    It happens.
I've seen elaborate scams before (and more elaborate than this).
I do think this is a scam with enough truth to trick the average Joe to part with his money.

I have to agree with this.
You can't expect to take risks, score and then get a full refund if you lose.
If you can't afford to lose, don't take the risk in the first place.
If the book was sealed in a slab when you bought it, you got exactly what you paid for.
And I sympathize with you, as someone who has been burned over my 15+ years of buying over the internet but that is real life.

Thanks for the kind words. I can also reciprocate and say that it's great to have a friend like you on the boards as we move special books back and forth amongst each other.

You're literally the only one that says that.
All other things being equal, you are incorrect.
I can't see the link to the eBay sale you provided as eBay obscures it now but the Heritage example looks like an exceptional copy, which would net a strong price regardless of the page quality.
But if all things were equal (which they are not in this case) nicer page quality fetches a stronger price.
This hobby is built on paying more for better. Period.
