  1. More goodies fresh back from CGC, including the first 9.8 of the Movie Star News!
  2. I love these boards...you throw out a pic, and the PMs start flying. Looks like the book is going to sell, so if anyone else is interested, PM me asap!
  3. Here's a pic: full bleed all the way to the edges!
  4. So since Poyo is so hot, should I put up the OA cover to Chew #8 with a crazy price?
  5. More info: 1st Print: Batman logo in Red with a White Background 2nd Print: Batman logo in Red with a Yellow Background 3rd Print: Batman logo in Yellow with a Red Background Only 8 2nd prints in CGC 9.8, and here's the only 3rd Print in 9.8 (next highest is a 9.2):
  6. Regarding Batman #497 -- The first, second, and third prints all have the overlay; the easiest way to tell is to look under the overlay. The second print has "II" on it, and the third print has "III" on it.
  7. Congrats; I just got my grades as well, although not final until they ship Crossfire #4 9.8 DV8 #1 9.8 Jonny Quest #3 9.6 and 9.8 Airboy #5 9.8 World of Wood #1 9.8 Last of the Viking Heroes #5 (variant) 9.8 x2 Bad Planet #6 9.8
  8. I won't know if I have a nice copy of that or not for at least another week, probably two (20+ Stevens books off being graded) Me too...24 to be exact... Me three...I have 10 (although no Planet #1 in this batch).
  9. Listed some books last night on eBay with BINs, and the following sold in under 12 hours: Marvel Comics Presents #26 (Coldblood ) $9.99 Manhattan Projects #1 (1st) $9.99
  10. Here's a scan of the 3-D Zone: Here are the prints: Rocketeer: #28/300: Betty: Not numbered, and has a few light creases:
  11. I had a great time at the Big Wow show in San Jose today, especially with respect to Dave... picked up a 3-D Zone; glasses are detached, but included. I haven't taken it out to take a close look, but probably a 9.0 or so. Paid $6. I also picked up two signed and numbered prints...Rocketeer alone and Betty in the studio. :cloud9:
  12. Love it. Hopefully Poyo is the new Michonne.
  13. Chew #1 1st print is still hot; I sold my extra CGC 9.8 copy for $499 plus shipping within 5 hours of listing it. I didn't even get a chance to upload the pic, since I started the auction from work during lunch.
  14. Here's a scan of mine; I know it's a first print since I subbed the book myself and verified the interior info.
  15. An older book, but one that recently surprised me is that I got over $50 for a NM- raw copy of Batman #357 (1st Jason Todd) on eBay. Figured the auction would do well when I started getting requests for a BIN.
  16. Just got back some moderns from CGC, so adding these to the collection (techically they were already in my collection, but raw):
  17. Seeing Lighthouse school Dr. Neff on business matters made this one more than worth the click. Man if those folks who made those donations and wrote off the amounts on their taxes get audited. Thankfully the statute of limitations for the IRS is only 3 years, so people that made donations in 2008 or earlier are now in the clear. But, the statute is still open for tax years 2009 forward. If any donors were playing the audit lottery, they may still be exposed. I just don't understand why they haven't filed the paperwork with the IRS; typically the IRS is pretty understanding about the application process and will cut the organization a break in getting their paperwork together and the application correct. Heck, he should have gone to his local bar association to see if there's a local attorney that can help him pro bono. But, my recommendation at this point, given all the history, is to walk away from C4K (which is inactive anyway), and just start fresh. Actually, strike that. My advice is just to walk away from the whole idea. Clearly this isn't something that Dr. Neff is passionate about (since he hasn't gotten to square two in 16 years). While a commendable idea, it's just an idea. I'd leave it to people better suited to actually accomplish the goals of readership and art for the children.
  18. He may be the greatest guy in the world. I don't know him from Adam. All I can go by are his actions and his completely unprofessional, defensive and illogical responses in the now deleted thread. He may have answered questions honestly to you, but to us he avoided all the questions I had about why it's been almost 16 years without the registration of 501©(3) and why his corporation is showing inactive and expired and has been so since July of 2010. Instead of noting, upfront that none of the donations are tax deductible, he said (in the now deleted thread) that "none of his donors have had any problems with the IRS". That's not really the same thing, now is it? If he can't handle it (after 16 years of trying I wonder when that designation is made) perhaps he should consider working with an already established charity so he can concentrate on gathering the books and providing them to those charities. Good intentions are great. Without follow through, transparency, full disclosure and complete organization it will discourage people willing to help and give the entity he started to help kids an aura of unreliability. "The road to Hell is paved with good intentions." - Saint Bernard of Clairvaux Agree that he needs to follow through and be more transparent. If what he is now doing is trying to raise funds (cash donations) and comics (to sell to raise cash) so that C4K can get organized and file the Form 1023, then that's one thing. If he's just trying to raise money for some "charitable" purpose, then that's another thing. BUT, he should be very upfront and clear that at this point, donations to his organization are NOT tax deductible and what his intentions for the cash/books actually are. Also, a description of who is involved with C4K and their roles and duties would be helpful. With the long history and the recent gaffs, I'm afraid that it may be best for C4K to cease and drift off into the mist. At this point, with the history of attempted starts and stops, I'd hate to think what the IRS would think of the non-profit application (if it even gets filed). I told Neff in a PM that I like the idea of C4K, but that I personally won't support his organization until and unless he formally gets IRS recognition of non-profit status. With the recent blowup, I wonder if even that will be enough to support his organization. If the public perception is that the organization is shady, why would anyone support it?
  19. Personally, I think C4K is a good idea, but I think the OP has gotten in over his head. I tried to help years ago, but couldn't volunteer all of my time to push the 501©(3) application through the IRS. At the time, I gave him my advice and personal experience of the process, and tried to get him to be up front and clear to all potential donors that their donations would NOT be tax deductible. That's why my post in the thread was regarding whether or not they had officially been recognized by the IRS. He's at least honest when dealing with direct questions, but I think his marketing attempts are at best misguided. I think his heart is in the right place, but he needs donations to get up and running and can't fund it himself.
  20. No, the first 7 numbers are the invoice number, and the last 3 numbers refer to the number of books in the invoice, so your book was #1 on one invoice, and then #1 on the next invoice. Make sense?

  22. Unfortunately, I need to nominate rza808 (Ray Bars) back on the Probation List. He previously was on the list, but worked himself off the list by having multiple successfully completed transactions. Unfortunately, he has dropped the ball on my order. I agreed to purchase a CGC 9.8 ASM #430 from his FS thread, and was invoiced on 8/12/11. He wanted to be paid by check, so I sent him a check through my bank's billpay on 8/13/11. He should have received the check in 5 days. On 8/28, I send him a PM asking if he's received the check. On 9/3, he repllies confirming receipt of the check, and the book should be on its way to me on Monday or Tuesday (9/5 or 9/6). On 9/13, I send him another PM asking if the book got shipped, since it hadn't arrived yet. On 9/28, he responds that he forgot to mail it out, did I still want it or a refund. I respond the same day asking to mail it out. Still on 9/28, he asks for my mailing address, and that the book will be sent the following day 9/29. I respond that same day with my mailing address. The PM with my mailing address has not been read by Ray, nor a follow-up PM on 10/13 stating that he has 3 days to respond to me otherwise I'll nominate him for the PL. No response, so I guess he's more than willing to burn his reputation (again) on the boards over a $25 order.
