  1. We're also criticizing them for their mistakes, but it's not like anything we're posting about the other company is going to make the other guys look like a good option.
  2. Not sure whether this sweet Bisley cover was ever used for a US comic.
  3. I'm going to start Moody Teenager Grading. Everything gets slabbed as "Fine"
  4. That's what I was thinking. I imagine CGC has less of a problem if we're all goofing on the other company.
  5. wed-dress, acecare-car-parts No interaction with either of these sellers, but saw these two exact same listings below from the two sellers above. Looks like they're both the same dropshipper (first clue: both listings show the items are in the US but the sellers are based in China; second clue: seller names indicate they're focused on specific, non-comic merch; third clue: book is listed as a Newsstand but it's obviously not, but rather just copied from another seller's listing). https://www.ebay.com/itm/394523818110?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l1120&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=c86d17250b7040c394c8665fbe49b4d7&bu=43524605054&ut=RU&exe=0&ext=0&osub=-1~1&crd=20230321043616&segname=11021#LISTING_FRAME_MODULE https://www.ebay.com/itm/285195972283?mkevt=1&mkpid=0&emsid=e11021.m43.l3160&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=c86d17250b7040c394c8665fbe49b4d7&bu=43524605054&ut=RU&exe=0&ext=0&osub=-1~1&crd=20230321043616&segname=11021#LISTING_FRAME_MODULE And on the topic of dropshippers, go ahead and block zuber as well.
  6. That sounds like a shill bid, and he's hoping someone else outbids him so he can claim the one he wants to sell is worth more. Which is why he wants you to list it for 2x-3x more.
  7. I was expecting better when I got it graded. I think it mostly got dinged for the bottom right corner.
  8. I wonder if condition (before any other factors) plays a much bigger part in the decision-making process of people willing to spring for that much for a modern Newsstand or Variant. Moreso than the average collector, that is. Like they'd shy away from the Silver Age ket for the same price because there are much better examples of that particular book out there (even if it's outside their budget).
  9. I created a thread a few years ago for promotional materials. A bunch of my pics are posted here:
  10. They're using that artwork for a variant on the 30th anniversary special:
  11. The buyer, probably: "Sorry, I should have clarified that the profit on the book is my grail. Or rather just profit in general.… Money; money is my grail."
  12. When you're dealing with lots though, a person might be looking for only specific items in that lot, but they're willing to spend for the whole lot to get the books they want, figuring they can resell the rest. That's not necessarily a seller to avoid. When I'm looking to build a run, I'll often go about it this way.
  13. I'll often buy a book I see at a good price, knowing that it's worth more, even if I don't want it for my permanent collection. I don't see an issue with reselling in situations like that. What I do have a problem with is people trying to clear a store out of a newly released book in order to sell on the secondary market. Those people drive people out of the hobby. I recently purchased a CGC slab from someone on eBay, and noticed that they had just recently purchased it from someone else at a bargain price (less than the price of grading). My only reaction is I wished I had seen it first.
  14. Much like pre-Unity Valiant and early Magic cards, product made early, before any hype, started commanding decent money on the secondary market. And then they over-produced once people started buying because "they're worth money." I wonder what would happen if someone bought the media rights to develop a Beanie Babies movie.
  15. No, this is the *thread* for Moderns heating up on eBay. This is the *section* for Moderns
  16. This is so annoying. I went to a hobby show with my father yesterday, and since I was in an area that I'm not typically in, decided to hit a few comic stores to see if I could hunt down any Milestone books. No luck at 2 shops. The third store had 1 book in the back issue bins, but when I asked whether they had any somewhere I wasn't looking, the owner (I'm assuming he was the owner, anyway) mentioned he might have some in storage that he could pull out. He's expanding the store so he can eventually have all of his stock readily available. He found a full longbox of books, which he said he didn't price yet, but I could pick out what I was interested in and he'd price them. Starting flipping through the box, most of which weren't bagged, and of those that were, many didn't have boards. His Icon books were first, so I pulled out some of those to test what the pricing was going to be. He had a good number of Newsstands, but none of them candidates for 9.0 or above, but I figured good enough for placeholders until I could find CGC-worthy copies if they were cheap enough. (In the condition they were in, they were pretty much dollar-box fodder, but I was willing to pay a few dollars as placeholders.) The Icon books I handed him included 41 (bagged and boarded; looked to be in really good condition) and an unbagged 42, which had a number of problems including a decent color-breaking crease at the bottom. The rest were mostly fairly early Newsstands. Of course, he used eBay to price the books, so I was expecting the late issues to end up being in line with prices for those. But he tried telling me that even the early books are selling for $10 each now, and priced the group of fewer than 10 books at $175. It was pretty clear that he wasn't going to budge on his sense of what the more common and less-than-perfect books were worth, and I ended up walking out with only 2 books. He had some really tough books though. Static 1 Platinum (unbagged), Icon 41-42 and some other late books (I think only the 41 was bagged), Hardware 49-50 (both unbagged) and some other late issues, late Statics including 44 and 2 copies of 45 (all unbagged), Wise Son 2-4 (the bagged copy of #2 was one of the 2 that I bought), and 3 of the 4 issues of Rebirth of the Cool, including #1 a second copy of one of the issues. Only one copy of issue 4 was bagged, and looked to be in decent shape (the others weren't), so I asked for a price, and he wouldn't even give me a price on that, since there were no recent eBay prices. He noted that the only copy availabe on eBay had an asking price of $140, and I realized after leaving that I knew exactly the listing he was referring to, which appears to be some seller who's a dropshipper or engaged in some other questionable selling practices based on the feedback (almost certainly doesn't have a top-condition copy of the book on-hand): https://www.ebay.com/itm/185769180602?hash=item2b40b4bdba:g:5oQAAOSwq~Bj4-0j&amdata=enc%3AAQAHAAAA0M3BtGcF%2FhMd%2FWHPcdYw5IzA4OLVEMScuIVlBHHEeatb80ZREPtPi84UV%2FEiluArGsz8Vpped2bJAA97OAAh1nQKWCoCnWS5h3Z4UL7cS%2FTQB1ANwfFD%2F%2FeGQQqDI2aBI55xdGdrhfkV69legf9J4Q0kxqsPPOawmhc8Da65UJryWvf0R9DwzRNIH6RIVHHxYLLOWQQ0mixivAUufvldjcjb0OValMC8owkjbrJwME9EpiDE51QKiLlWnbADGRnJ6CkzeDDWOWDysP0smVH80as%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR8DZ9e_aYQ One thing I realized looking through the box: Newsstands of the Shadow War crossover and the Worlds Collide crossover seem to be somewhat abundant. This store had multiple copies of the Newsstands of the Hardware and Icon issues of Shadow War, and I've seen a handful of copies of those elsewhere as well.
  17. Actually looks like there is one (sorta): https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/True_Believers:_King_in_Black_-_Black_Cat_Vol_1_1
  18. Give it soem time and I'm sure they'll print a facsimilie
  19. And an Essential volume. https://marvel.fandom.com/wiki/Category:Amazing_Spider-Man_Vol_1_210/Reprints
  20. Correct. I saw copies of this facsimilie still on the shelves today. It was just released a few weeks ago, not 30 years ago. The seller called out the correct publication year in the listing, but not that it was a facsimilie. The label is for the original version, which sells for between 150-200 in 9.8 right now.
  21. I really hope the buyer of this book is a fan of CGC error labels. https://www.ebay.com/itm/155437391350?mkpid=0&emsid=e11010.m1951.l7533&mkcid=7&ch=osgood&euid=256ff01cfb3e45c78672c8376cbcb17f&bu=43524605054&ut=RU&osub=-1~1&crd=20230308141908&segname=11010&autorefresh=true&nma=true&si=jo7yz8r7%2BIKXoBhxF4e4QqtXsp4%3D&orig_cvip=true&nordt=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557
