"While Dad was doing paintings for different publishers & odd jobs, his big break finally came. Nick Meglin one of the "Fleagles" got him into MAD magazine on a commission to do a back cover advertisement-a beautiful likeness of Ringo Starr. This sent a big message to Hollywood & film producers back when original art was used to promote the film on the walls of the theaters. Shortly thereafter, the phone began to ring.
His first big payday, the poster for "What's New Pussycat", was a check for $4000. Nearly a years pay in one week! It was like a million dollars to us. Mom & Dad ran out & purchased a new color TV & a beautiful Castro tiger-skinned couch with a bed, stereo & bar inside it. The days of paperback covers for $350-500 were now a thing of the past. Bring on Hollywood!"
