  1. The Five Below books really vary. Went to one last night and ended up with a bunch of 1 in 50 variants, my personal favorite was the Captain Marvel #1 with a Cassaday cover. The Five Below I went to today had mostly common books, no variants that I saw other than second printings. I went through all of them, sneaking a peak at the books underneath by sliding the books a little in the pack. I ended up buying two packs. One I saw clearly had an All New Marvel Point One #1, the other had a thick book, was hoping it was another ANMPO, turned out to be Amazing Spider-Man #1 2nd print.
  2. The interesting thing to me as a long time VALIANT collector/hoarder is that some of the books I've looked at as worthless for a long time are now all of the sudden worth something. Sure, I've been pulling pre-Unity and other premium VALIANT out of cheap boxes for years. Books like Bloodshot #6 and #7? Been passing on those for a long time. Same with Shadowman #16. I only recently just starting pulling out copies of Eternal Warrior #4. Shadowman #8 I started hoarding not because I thought Master Darque was ever going to be in a movie, but because I liked the character and the cover was cool.
  3. I sold a high grade copy of The Many Loves of Dobie Gillis #4 to Bob Denver on eBay. This was back in the early days of eBay, so I remember receiving a personal check from them for the book. I also sold a Flaming Carrot trade paperback to the Secret Stash, I think that was before the TV show was out.
  4. How can I tell? There's nothing on the cover or indicia indicating a later printing. Copyright dates? Peace, Chip cover price is the quickest tell. First printings have the following cover prices: Freak Brothers #2: Further adventures (Shelton – Rip Off Press 1972) .50 Freak Brothers #3: A year passes like nothing (Shelton – Rip Off Press 1973) .50 Freak Brothers #4: Brother, can you spare 75 c? (Shelton/Sheridan – Rip Off Press 1975) .75 Freak Brothers #5: Grass roots (Rip Off Press 1977) .75 Freak Brothers #6: Six snappy Sockeroos (Shelton- Rip Off Press 1980) 1.25 Freak Brothers #7: Several Short Stories (Shelton – Rip Off Press 1982) 2.00 Freak Brothers #8: The insufficiently_thoughtful_persons abroad, part one (Shelton/Mavrides – Rip Off Press 1984) 2.00 color Freak Brothers #9: The insufficiently_thoughtful_persons abroad, part two (Shelton/Mavrides – Rip Off Press 1985) 2.00 color Freak Brothers #10: The insufficiently_thoughtful_persons abroad, part three (Shelton/Mavrides – Rip Off Press 1987) 2.25 color Freak Brothers #11 (Shelton/Mavrides – Rip Off Press 1990) 2.50 color Freak Brothers #12 $2.95 For many of the issues, there are also various printings with the same cover price, but the cover prices will tell you whether you have early or late printings. You'll get more for earlier printings, but a complete set of issues #2-12 will still do ok even as later editions as a lot of people would buy them just to read them.
  5. This auction would have to be the ultimate score for an Omaha fan, way too rich for me, though. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Large-Lot-of-Vootie-Underground-Comics-1977-1980-Reed-Waller-Ken-Fletcher-/390781145251?pt=US_Comic_Books&hash=item5afc5f10a3
  6. I remember Mike being at comic shows in Pottstown, PA back in the late 80's. The shows were organized by a comics dealer who I worked for at the time. The guy I worked for always managed to get some pretty good guests, as well. One show he had Steranko and the other one had Frank Thorne as a guest. It's sad that the Pottstown area doesn't have a comic shop nowadays, I have to go to Reading or King of Prussia to get new books at shops now. I wonder if anyone here remembers the shop I worked at, Terk's Comics in Pottstown. Sorry to go off on a tangent, but this thread with these books remind me of the old shop, as the owner was always buying a ton of these kind of books during the Black & White Comics boom and bust. I think he was left with a lot of junk books, which I believe was part of the reason he went out of business eventually.
  7. The Showcase Comics website shows they still have the Granite Run Mall store along with the Bryn Mawr store. I haven't been there in a few months, but I assume it's still there.
  8. From James Vance's blog: The other was the conclusion to Omaha the Cat Dancer, which in some ways was the hardest and most personally important project of my life. Following notes left by the beloved and sorely missed Kate Worley, I worked with Omaha creator Reed Waller to wrap up their long-running sexy soap opera. Those final chapters will be collected in a volume from NBM in late summer of 2013. BTW, haven't seen any mention of this elsewhere on the boards. It looks like Volume 8 (the volume collecting the Sizzle issues and completing the series) came out September 1st: http://www.amazon.com/The-Complete-Omaha-Cat-Dancer/dp/1561637548
  9. recently completed my Missoula, Montana comix set. (Thanks, Justin!) Including an extra copy of Mondo Montana, the third book in the series.
  10. Glad to see some Last of the Viking Heroes love, I've got two complete sets of issues #1-12 with the variant #5 and the Summer Specials #1-3 and three copies of the signed and limited trade paperback. Fantastic artwork!
  11. I would guess a large portion of the 100 copies were destroyed in the flood that destroyed most of Eclipse Comics' backstock in 1986. guess I was wrong about the 2-D books going in the flood... Do you still have a bunch of these? I remember the story about you buying these from a dealer who didn't feel the need to pack them correctly. I managed to pick up a 2-D Black Belt Hamsters book, but it's still the only one I have.

  13. I will keep it for now since it's the only copy of the book I have, but if I ever land a better condition copy, I'll keep you in mind.
  14. finally found a reasonably priced copy of the 3-D Zone #16 Space Vixens book. It was in the adult section of eBay with no mention of Dave Stevens, so I got it and three other books for $2.99 plus shipping. Sadly, when I received it, the book was about a VG if that with a large back cover crease. Also, the seller had no idea how to package comics to ship, taping the bagged and boarded stack of four books together and just sticking them in a brown envelope. I guess the search for a decent copy continues.

  16. That's good news. Are all the Omaha stories from Sizzle Magazine collected? I have every floppy but I don't think I"m up to hunting down every Sizzle appearance, especially with the lack of info concerning them. I believe the Omaha saga has already been completed in Sizzle, the announcement for 2013 on Vance's blog appears to be about the collected edition of those stories finally being released.
  17. Thanks for the Xenozoic books, that much closer to completing my set. (thumbs u
  18. Mile High has issues #1, 2, 3 and 6 as having 2nd prints. Does anyone know if this is correct and if these are the only issues that went into second printings? Seems weird that #6 went into a 2nd printing, I just acquired two different copies of #6 today and BOTH were 2nd prints.
  19. Dope Comix #5, Snarf #10 and Fire Sale. Also, do you have both volumes of Omaha? There was the four issue run of Vol.2 from Fantagraphics. I also like having both the Steeldragon and Kitchen Sink versions of the first two issues. Not Omaha, but a Reed Waller cover and (I assume) story:
  20. hmm, I see this book has not been mentioned in this thread yet: Omaha herself is not in the story, but it does feature an "Omaha Universe" story by Waller and Worley.
  21. If you can scan the front cover and post it, there are a few "tells" other than cover stock that should help to identify which one it is.
  22. It's the earliest number in the number line, so it would be a 6th printing.
  23. I don't believe Gay Comics #24 was ever reprinted in any form (TPB or otherwise), but I could be mistaken. probably not reprinted in any of the Maxx trades, because the only Sam Kieth work is the cover. The Maxx-related story is not by Kieth and only features the Maxx in two panels.
  24. What in the books has told you that the Quack #1's you have seen were 2nd prints? Currently known information via various underground comix price guides and web sites says there is only one printing of all issues of Quack. It's in the Indicia. I believe that's the only way to tell. Lone Star Listing Thank you, this is something I will bring up with Fogel for his next UG update. The Kennedy Guide also says there is a 2nd printing of Quack #1, so it somehow got missed by Fogel in both the full guide and the update that came out more recently. It also was missed by ugcomix.info and Sir Real's UG site, which are both also usually very reliable. BTW, I do have a first printing of Quack #1, and it does say First Printing in the indicia.
