  1. ok, now I've seen them! Thanks for the links. I had seen #7 before, just forgot about it and couldn't find a pic using a broad Google search. In the first link, I would think would have to be #4, I have #2 and #3 and the one in the link you provided is in the same larger format. With #5 they went to the smaller 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" format, which was used for #5 and #6. It looks like #7 was the same height, but slightly wider than #5 and #6. With #8, Roden went with the more familiar size of most mini comix, and #9 and #10 were the same size as #8.
  2. I was certainly surprised it went that high. I have a near complete set of Nemesis, but I've never seen copies of #4 or #7. I have seen two or three copies of #1 sell over the years, but my bids are never even close to winning.
  3. One of the most important things I learned quickly with undergrounds was to be patient. Since most of these books are so obscure, you are likely to eventually find one at a low price. I just completed my set of Jimbo, and even though I didn't write down the prices, I don't think I paid more than $11 shipped for any of the issues. If you look these books up on eBay, most copies are much more than that. The $11 shipped is what I just paid for the last issue I needed to complete the set, #3. Here's a pic:
  4. Wow, good to see that the work of Michael Roden is still in demand, Nemesis #1 $128.01: http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEMESIS-1-underground-comix-MICHAEL-RODEN-Ed-Dorn-horror-art-zine-Dagon-1979-/162460585455?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&nma=true&si=gWCoex51BeKwRVzcIE3cBqcVcF0%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc
  5. I did a Google search and found those character names in a book by Grass Green, but the book the search found was more recent, entitled "Sinnin'" published by Eros Comix in 1991. Maybe this book reprinted something Green did in 1974?
  6. plenty of people who know their underground comix "stuff" in the Underground Comix thread in the magazine section of this board.
  7. BTW, just read Grendel #1-40 and War Child #1-10. Fantastic stuff. I've had them in my collection for a long time, but bumped them up in my reading pile with the multiple mentions of the series in your journal here.
  8. Wow, nice stuff, I always imagined there were some undergrounds hiding somewhere in the mess that was the Turning Page. I also used to go there attempting to find Pre-Unity Valiant, but I never found any of those, either. It sounds like everything decent was hiding in the basement.
  9. Was this not known to anyone but those close to Jay? I just saw a post from Skip Williamson on FB, and this is the first I've heard of it. Very sad to hear this. To those who didn't post there, Jay used to post over on the CPG underground comix forum once in a while. I really enjoyed his work.
  10. attendance seems to be on the upswing for this show. This is the first time I ever had to wait in a fairly long line just to get in. Some excellent books in the house for the bargain seeker, although I would always like to see more bargain boxes. Excellent show all around, though.
  11. I had Alf on my pull list all the way up to #50. My father was a fan of the show and also collected Alf items.
  12. Frrom what I have heard locally, this has been more of a pop culture con, as there were not many actual comic book dealers. I read a review that said there were only three comic book sellers in 2015, not sure if it got better last year, but for the price, I'm not going to attempt to find out this year.
  13. BTW, the listing for Faerie Star #1 on eBay from the publisher is available again, and the copies of the book are very affordable, for anyone who might not have one: Faerie Star #1- eBay
  14. Who knows what printing this is now, used to be a first printing:
  15. I'd post the first print Felch Cumics I bought from Howard, but I don't feel like censoring it. Very hard to find book, there are tons of the second printing because Donahue was always selling them on eBay, but you almost never see a first for sale.
  16. If we're talking Rock and underground comix, I would think the several different Residents comics would qualify. From Matt Howarth's many Residents-themed books to the Freak Show trade put out by Dark Horse. Some of my favorite items in my collection.
  17. Yeah, I'll still do auctions on eBay once in a while, but it just seems best to put up items at a decent BIN price, make best offer available, and see where the chips fall. I'm trying to build up a bit of inventory, I'm up to twenty listings right now and looking to add more over my three day weekend coming up. With auctions, too many times you are at the mercy of who happens to look at your listings within that week, and sometimes the bids just don't come out on stuff that isn't the new, hot thing.
  18. I can't imagine Milwaukee will be able to support all those shows. If I lived in the area, I would definitely still go to Burnham and I liked dealing with Allen when he did the Burnham shows, so I would go to his show, as well. Mighty Con sounds good for now, but if the admission price went past $5, I would be out on that show. The "Pop Con" thing sounds to me like a show that was held in my area that was supposed to be comic related, but had one comic dealer who didn't do well. Those type shows don't seem to be trying to attract comic collectors, so again, I'd pass.
  19. I've decided to give up on new books (for at least a little while) and have also stopped going to shows for just a little bit. Lack of funds is the main reason, but I also realized I have plenty of things to list for sale on eBay and it's just a matter of getting off my butt and doing it. So I've been doing it quite a bit over the last couple weeks. Have sold quite a bit, but I am getting somewhat aggravated with the "Best Offer" feature. Way too many lowballers who think I should sell my books for 50% off or more. I don't mind knocking off a few bucks, but offering $10 for a book I have listed at $20 is pretty much a waste of my time. Guess I should use the automatic reject feature, but I don't really have that much stuff listed yet.
  20. When I lived in Milwaukee, Lost Worlds was definitely my LCS, the "chain in town" pissed me off too many times over the years. I would still hit their stores occasionally, but it was almost always a frustrating experience. In fact, my visit to their KK store this summer was about the best time I ever had there aside from the New Years' sale, which I always enjoyed. The owner was actually willing to go down in the basement and hunt for back issues for me. Even though I passed on a lot of them because of inflated prices, I did end up buying quite a bit. It's a shame because they easily have the best back issue selection in town, but they make it way too hard to access them.
  21. Nice to see all the activity in this thread, since all of our old hangouts seem to be gone. Keep up the great info, guys!
  22. I believe it is music. I have a copy of Barbarian Women #3 that was supposed to come with the record (bought from Donahue), but the record was not included. Someone from the boards once posted a picture of the record, really doesn't appear to have much to do with the comic, if I recall correctly.
  23. I'm currently reading Rom for the first time, as I had only read issues like the X-Men crossover issues in the past. For anyone doing the same, you will probably want to get Power Man and Iron Fist #73, as well, as the issue ties in with Rom #23. Really enjoying the book so far, great stuff and I like how they didn't overdo the super hero crossovers too much in the early issues, but it was firmly established that Rom was in the Marvel Universe.
  24. Last time I tried to go to Showcase in Bryn Mawr, I found that they had moved from the location I was used to going to. I couldn't find where they had moved to, but I do buy quite a few of their cheapo books at the Philly comic show.
  25. Hey Joe, you left out the best part. Your pamphlet was written by "Mary Jane Superweed" and published by the "Stone Kingdom Syndicate" of California. I would buy one! Yep, that's the one. Unfortunately my copy has rusty staples. Someone spilled some bong water at some point?
