  1. Not a comic shop owner, but the LCS here seems to order only one or two copies of most mainstream Marvel and DC books for the shelves and usually sells out on anything of interest. They are always willing to order something for you, but I'm not interested. If I'm going into a store, I expect instant gratification, for items to be available to be purchased when I am there.

  2. Was this the one in Lancaster, PA? I've seen it in this Yelp listing and always wanted to try going there, sounds like you might have saved me a trip.

From the Yelp review, it sounded like there were a lot of bargain books to look through, not sure if you did so, or if that's not the type of collecting you do.

There's also a Captain Blue Hen in Delaware, was wondering if there is any connection, you would think there would have to be, but I don't know the details.

  3. Here's one to block, first one like this I have ever had to deal with.

Bought a comic from me, believe they paid in a timely manner. No problems. Just received a message today from Paypal:

"The buyer reported that someone made the order without their permission."

No case filed with eBay at all, just with Paypal. I'm hoping I'll be OK, I was eligible for seller protection, and have a tracking number showing the item was received.

Those are some cool underground mags above ‼️‼️? I only know mostly about R Crumb underground mags

A lot of underground comix fans started with Crumb, and then worked their way into other things. I originally got into undergrounds because of the ones that were shown in the Crumb movie.

Yeah... that's why I told him keep the 50c (everything was 1/2 off). :$

But to be fair, these were bought from my LCS at a show- new acquisitions. They know I'm into UGs and have priced UGs for other dealers in the past for free. They only needed to ask (or look on eBay).

Glad you got some good deals at the show. One thing I neglected to tell you about the show I attended was that I picked up four copies of Psycho Comics #1 for $1 each. These were a great pickup for me because I already have three extra copies of Psycho Comics #2 that I had picked up from Mile High some time ago, so I was able to put together three sets to sell. One buyer ended up buying all three sets from me.

Aw, don't let the cat out of the bag! I've been trying to buy a cheap copy of Elfquest #2 with the $1.00 cover price. I ordered one from mycomicshop a while back and they sent a third printing ($1.50 cover). They just listed another copy, which I also just bought, hoping this time I actually receive a first printing.

Ended up getting a $1.00 cover price Elfquest #2, so very pleased. It has some slight foxing, but otherwise a nice copy for less than $5.

Found this Elfquest #1 from mycomicshop, wonder if it turned out to be a 1st print.

The first print of #1 does appear to be a tough one, I never really looked for one as I knew it was a reprint of FQ #1. mycomicshop certainly prices #1 much higher than #2.

I don't think there are actual #2 first prints ($1.00 cover) available online very often. MyComicShop and maybe MileHigh appear to have them "in stock" but both are usually 2nd and 3rd prints listed as 1st.

I agree, I have been checking eBay for quite a while for copies of Elfquest #2 with the $1.00 cover, and they are very seldom seen. Plenty of $1.50 cover price ones, though.

Interesting... I wonder if people don't know that Elfquest #2 came out before Elfquest #1. hm

  10. In the true spirit of the title of this thread, here is a book that I truly couldn't find in the wild and have only seen it listed once on eBay:

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Cerebus-Archive-18-Dave-Sim-Aardvark-Vanaheim-/113129532034?_trksid=p2047675.l2557&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&nma=true&si=2DyCklL4zoiczzKG0HeOBAkYuyw%3D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc

The Print on Demand issues of Cerebus Archive are almost impossible to find, because only those who wanted them bad enough to order them from Comixpress will have them, and most of those fans aren't selling. I ordered all of them except I missed out on the last issue and Comixpress went out of business soon after. I've had a set of 1-17, but have never had the opportunity to buy the last issue until this listing. If you ever see Cerebus Archive #4-18 (#1-3 were available through Diamond and are common) and they are affordable, I highly recommend picking them up, they are very hard to come by and in high demand by Cerebus collectors.

    Bill Griffith Original Comic Art

Published by: Jehu Gallery; Contributors: Bill Griffith; Date: 1980; Price: three dollars; Page Count: 20 pages

Size: mini (3.0 x 4.13) Kennedy #: 274; Print information: between 100 to 200 copies (according to Bill Griffith)

A souvenir produced for a showing of Bill Griffith's work at the Jehu Gallery in April to May 1980.  The colour card covers of the book were folded/repurposed postcards that were bound to the black and white guts.  In comparison, many postcard covers were produced to invite potential attendees to the showing, while only 100 to 200 finished books were produced/available for some actual and lucky attendees.

I thought I had one of these, although I have forgotten where and when I purchased it. Just looked inside of mine and noticed it was signed by Bill Griffith.

  12. Would like to know why if two packages I'm expecting were in Harrisburg, PA yesterday and I live in the Philly suburbs, why the heck they were sent to Washington, DC yesterday instead of to my local Post Office? Delivery was expected today, but that won't be happening. Yeah, I know my story is nothing compared to the horror stories in this thread, but I still find it aggravating. Chose to vent here, it's not like anyone at USPS would give a rat's rip.

Right around this time of the year before Con season really heats up, I reconcile all of my Convention buy lists from the previous year, along with want lists that I keep going from year to year.  Here is the one book that is consistently on every want/buy list I have, and it seems impossible to find in NM/NM+ condition.  I have found one in this condition in the past year:

I think it sells well when its available.  There a couple floating on ebay (9.8s) listed for $699, and that is unreasonable, but the stock image I used in this post is listed as a 7.5 for $129.95.

I sold a couple copies of this book on eBay recently, I was surprised to see what the asking price was for the other copies listed, so I listed mine cheaper and they sold pretty quickly. Always interesting to find books in your collection that do well on eBay.

You know, I don't have those books.  Are they under the Comico imprint?  This is part of what makes Grendel frustrating to collect.  Just when I think I've hit the end, I find out there's more!

Yes, Comico started out by publishing black and white titles before they switched to color. After Primer #2, Comico published a three issue run of Grendel, which ended mid-story.

  15. MCS has this book listed as Prophet Legacy and shows both covers, doesn't have them in stock, though.

EDIT: I then found this listing on eBayhttps://www.ebay.com/itm/Prophet-Vol-3-1-Undervalued-HTF-McFarlane-Cover-This-Book-is-a-Ghost-CBG310/222898165773?hash=item33e5c4180d:g:LEQAAOSw8BRat-Uv.

This listing shows it is a flip cover, MCS listed the flip covers as a separate series, though. I guess an error on their part. (shrug)

  16. Sorry if there is already a topic on this, I could not find one using the search feature. I have a copy of the red Pitt ashcan from Image back in 1992. I have looked using Google and could not find any unsigned and numbered copies, and it appears that all of the graded copies in the census are Qualified because of the unwitnessed signatures. Has anyone ever seen an unsigned copy before? I'm looking to sell this, but I wanted to get some information on it first.
