Do you know which issue of Nemesis was featured on this auction: https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/thru-black-holes-nemesis-fantasy-sci-135796888? I'm wondering if it was #4.

It's been awhile since I've sold my copy of Penny Arcade Comix (https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/underground-comix-nemesis-penny-154479536), but wasn't Nemesis #7 part of that?

ok, now I've seen them! Thanks for the links. I had seen #7 before, just forgot about it and couldn't find a pic using a broad Google search.

In the first link, I would think would have to be #4, I have #2 and #3 and the one in the link you provided is in the same larger format. With #5 they went to the smaller 5 1/2" by 8 1/2" format, which was used for #5 and #6. It looks like #7 was the same height, but slightly wider than #5 and #6. With #8, Roden went with the more familiar size of most mini comix, and #9 and #10 were the same size as #8.

  2. One of the most important things I learned quickly with undergrounds was to be patient. Since most of these books are so obscure, you are likely to eventually find one at a low price. I just completed my set of Jimbo, and even though I didn't write down the prices, I don't think I paid more than $11 shipped for any of the issues. If you look these books up on eBay, most copies are much more than that. The $11 shipped is what I just paid for the last issue I needed to complete the set, #3. Here's a pic:

    Looking for Underground comic

I've been trying to find an underground book circa 1974 that featured the adventures of Bucky and Tinella if anyone knows this book lemme know!

I did a Google search and found those character names in a book by Grass Green, but the book the search found was more recent, entitled "Sinnin'" published by Eros Comix in 1991. Maybe this book reprinted something Green did in 1974?

Another dealer brought me a WHOLE long box of underground comix to organize, price and grade within 2 weeks; All the underground comix that came out of the old Turning Page basement.

Because I have had work, professional development and fun (read: bar trivia) commitments all this week, I have not been able to start the project, but I am looking forward to it this weekend.

I get to keep track of my time, get paid a little, and possibly even a nice book or two. What fun!

Wow, nice stuff, I always imagined there were some undergrounds hiding somewhere in the mess that was the Turning Page. I also used to go there attempting to find Pre-Unity Valiant, but I never found any of those, either. It sounds like everything decent was hiding in the basement.

  5. attendance seems to be on the upswing for this show. This is the first time I ever had to wait in a fairly long line just to get in. Some excellent books in the house for the bargain seeker, although I would always like to see more bargain boxes. Excellent show all around, though.

  6. Sadly, I spend almost no time hunting through bargain boxes, but I found an Alf 48 for fifty cents about five years ago at a con.

It is kind of odd that Alf made it 50 issues, but I guess if Ren and Stimpy can go 44, why not Alf.

I had Alf on my pull list all the way up to #50. My father was a fan of the show and also collected Alf items.

  7. Can't confirm it, because all of our old posts disappeared, but I'm pretty sure we discussed Faerie Star #2 on the old board. I had bought copies of Faerie Star #1 off eBay from someone associated with creating the book (might have been the publisher) and I believe he told me for a fact that #2 was never made.

Again, can't confirm any of this, because all that valuable information was lost... :pullhair:

BTW, the listing for Faerie Star #1 on eBay from the publisher is available again, and the copies of the book are very affordable, for anyone who might not have one:

  8. Yeah, I'll still do auctions on eBay once in a while, but it just seems best to put up items at a decent BIN price, make best offer available, and see where the chips fall. I'm trying to build up a bit of inventory, I'm up to twenty listings right now and looking to add more over my three day weekend coming up. With auctions, too many times you are at the mercy of who happens to look at your listings within that week, and sometimes the bids just don't come out on stuff that isn't the new, hot thing.

  9. I can't imagine Milwaukee will be able to support all those shows. If I lived in the area, I would definitely still go to Burnham and I liked dealing with Allen when he did the Burnham shows, so I would go to his show, as well. Mighty Con sounds good for now, but if the admission price went past $5, I would be out on that show. The "Pop Con" thing sounds to me like a show that was held in my area that was supposed to be comic related, but had one comic dealer who didn't do well. Those type shows don't seem to be trying to attract comic collectors, so again, I'd pass.

  10. I've decided to give up on new books (for at least a little while) and have also stopped going to shows for just a little bit. Lack of funds is the main reason, but I also realized I have plenty of things to list for sale on eBay and it's just a matter of getting off my butt and doing it. So I've been doing it quite a bit over the last couple weeks. Have sold quite a bit, but I am getting somewhat aggravated with the "Best Offer" feature. Way too many lowballers who think I should sell my books for 50% off or more. I don't mind knocking off a few bucks, but offering $10 for a book I have listed at $20 is pretty much a waste of my time. Guess I should use the automatic reject feature, but I don't really have that much stuff listed yet.

  11. When I lived in Milwaukee, Lost Worlds was definitely my LCS, the "chain in town" pissed me off too many times over the years. I would still hit their stores occasionally, but it was almost always a frustrating experience. In fact, my visit to their KK store this summer was about the best time I ever had there aside from the New Years' sale, which I always enjoyed. The owner was actually willing to go down in the basement and hunt for back issues for me. Even though I passed on a lot of them because of inflated prices, I did end up buying quite a bit. It's a shame because they easily have the best back issue selection in town, but they make it way too hard to access them.

  12. And the mention of a record, reminded me that some copies of Barbarian Women 3 came with one. I do not have record player, so I do not know what's on it. Is it music based?

I believe it is music. I have a copy of Barbarian Women #3 that was supposed to come with the record (bought from Donahue), but the record was not included. Someone from the boards once posted a picture of the record, really doesn't appear to have much to do with the comic, if I recall correctly.

  13. I'm currently reading Rom for the first time, as I had only read issues like the X-Men crossover issues in the past. For anyone doing the same, you will probably want to get Power Man and Iron Fist #73, as well, as the issue ties in with Rom #23.

Really enjoying the book so far, great stuff and I like how they didn't overdo the super hero crossovers too much in the early issues, but it was firmly established that Rom was in the Marvel Universe.

  14. Showcase Comics in Bryn Mawr, PA (suburban Philadelphia).

I first walked in around age 11-12 in the summer of 1989. The new issue racks were dominated by that summer's Marvel Annuals (Atlantis Attacks) and the premiere wall books were Batman 426-429 (Death in the Family) along with The Cult and Dark Knight Returns.

I was a weekly regular there for the next 7 years, attending signings by Al Williamson, Rick Leonardi (for Spider-Man 2099 # 1), Bernard Chang (Valiant's Deathmate tour), and others.

    Memorable purchases included a beat-up copy of Daredevil # 1 for $4, a 9.0 copy of ASM # 129 for $100 during that period in the late '90s when he wasn't popular, and hundreds of new issues, including Man of Steel 18 (x 6), ASM 361 (x 3), Superman 75 (x 13), New Mutants 95-100, X-Men # 1e (x 5 - d'oh!) and all the early Image books (Youngblood # 1 was "limit 5 per customer").

1989-1996 was a great time to ride the comics wave, from the summer of the Batman movie, through McSpider-man, Image, Valiant, Ultraverse, Comics Greatest World, to Stephen Platt.

There was a Detective Comics # 27 in the showcase that the owner sold around 1992-'93 to purchase a 2 million-comic warehouse that allowed him to open one of his other stores (either the one on South Street or in the Granite Run Mall -- I forget).

Both of those stores are long gone, but the flagship Bryn Mawr store's still around, and it's still owned by Mike.

Last time I tried to go to Showcase in Bryn Mawr, I found that they had moved from the location I was used to going to. I couldn't find where they had moved to, but I do buy quite a few of their cheapo books at the Philly comic show.

  15. [i've got something similar, but it's marijuana related, as opposed to acid. It's entitled The Marijuana Consumer's and Dealer's Guide, yellow illustrated cover, but no real art inside. Also have a few issues of Marijuana Monthly. I would occasionally pick these things up when buying undergrounds, but I was never really trying to collect them.

    Hey Joe,

you left out the best part. Your pamphlet was written by "Mary Jane Superweed" and published by the "Stone Kingdom Syndicate" of California. I would buy one!

Yep, that's the one. Unfortunately my copy has rusty staples. Someone spilled some bong water at some point? (shrug)
