  1. Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Lion Books No. 146 1953 A rare book in any condition $60 SOLD to goldust40 The first mass market pb of the classic horror novel (I don't consider the uber-rare Armed Services Edition to be a true mass-market pb, even though I have a nice one) Art uncredited but both Ruben and I think it's Lou Marchetti from the dead Good Girl's features. Near Fine. Solid and square, pages tight, has a reader crease and some color flecking to covers but covers are otherwise smooth and uncreased. Spine is a bit faded. Pages and inner covers are toned as usual for these. One of the best I've seen. My copy is only slightly better.
  2. A couple of Lions. I don't get many dupes of Lion Books because they are so scarce I'm happy to find any kind of first copies but I'll share what I got. Slaughter Street by Louis Falstein Lion 151 PBO 1953 $25 SOLD to goldust40 A savage crime novel with great GGA cover art by Lou Marchetti. It's becoming a Lou Marchetti day - which is ok by me because he's one of my favorites Fine/Fine Plus - looks better but has some NCB creases on the cover. Solid square and glossy with nice page quality for a Lion.
  3. A true Battle Royale over the Ace's Love to see the appreciation That was actually the last of that stack of Ace's I had for today. I need to take a break for a while but I have some other goodies to list later.
  4. S-117 KIM DARIEN Dark Rapture (1955; 1st ACE printing and PBO; listed as "Complete and Unabridged") - Artist uncredited but almost certainly Rudy Nappi. $18 SOLD to OtherEric A nice example of Nappi's signature moody, sleazy wimmen . Also from the High Grade collection Fine plus/Very Fine minus. Spine has very slight slant but overall the book is bright glossy and unread looking. Has a water line (on cover only, not pages) at rear corner and couple small finger bends on covers.
  5. S-83 ARNOLD DRAKE The Steel Noose (1954; 1st ACE printing and PBO; listed as "A Complete Novel") Artist uncredited but probably Harry Barton $12 SOLD to popkulture This was a pretty good read as well - of the "Newspaperman as suspect/detective" genre. Another pretty copy from the High Grade collection. Fine Plus. Square, tight and glossy. Appears unread (no reader crease) but has rubbing to the spine edges. Covers are smooth and uncreased.
  6. S-153 HALLAM WHITNEY (aka HARRY WHITTINGTON) The Wild Seed (1956; 1st ACE printing and PBO; listed as "Complete Novel") Artist uncredited but credited (quite credibly!) to George Ziel on Lynn Munroe's Ziel checklist. $25 SOLD to OtherEric One of the great Harry Whittington's many hillbilly intrigue PBO's. This one featuring George Ziel's distinctive Good Girl cover art. This one is from the High Grade collection but, like most Whittington novels, got read, albeit gently. Fine/Fine Plus. Square, solid, glossy and fresh, has some spine dimpling but the covers are smooth and uncreased other than a couple light finger bends.
  7. S-107 PETER TWIST (aka C. P. HEWITT) The Gilded Hideaway (1955; 1st ACE printing and PBO; listed as "Complete Novel") Artist uncredited but almost certainly Lou Marchetti $20 SOLD to mstrange Awesome Marchetti good girls. I like how they broke the dude out of the plane of the red sidebar on this one. Like most of these, from the High Grade collection and in top notch condition Very Fine minus. Spine has rubbing/light wear at the bottom spine but this suckah is square, bright glossy and unread.
  8. S-97 NORMAN HERRIES (aka NORMAN HERSHMAN) Death Has 2 Faces (cover by Harry Barton; 1955; listed as "Complete and Unabridged") $20 SOLD to OtherEric This was a pretty sick read about a nasty crooked cop. Great Barton cover as well. Early singles are very tough to find in this shape Very Fine minus. Spine has a slant but this copy looks unread, fresh and glossy with barely a trace of wear. Must have been manufactured that way.
  9. OtherEric beat you to it Andy , but I have some very nice early Ace singles I'll be listing in a little bit
  10. D-71 GORDON ASHE (aka JOHN CREASEY) Drop Dead! (cover by Harry Barton; 1954) and D-71b MARGARET SCHERF The Case of the Hated Senator (original title: Dead: Senate Office Building; 1954; listed as "complete and unabridged") $12 SOLD to OtherEric Love that cover on Drop Dead and, on the flip side, politicians aren't people's favorite folks these days either Very Good/Very Good Plus. Similar to the previous post - Very solid and tight but with the usual collection of wear and creasing found on early Ace's.
  11. Ace D-135 MILTON K. OZAKI Maid for Murder (1955; listed as "complete and unabridged") and JAMES HADLEY CHASE (aka RENE BRABAZON RAYMOND) Dead Ringer (cover by Harry Barton; 1955) $12 SOLD to OtherEric Classic covers and authors combined here for a great double double. Very Good/Very Good Plus. Solid and tight. Has a fair amount of edgewear and creasing but not beat. A collectible copy that can still be read carefully if desired.
  12. D-439 DUANE DECKER The Devil's Punchbowl (cover by Robert Maguire; 1960; listed as "Complete Novel") and D-439b OWEN DUDLEY( aka DUDLEY DEAN MacGAUGHEY) Run If You Can (1960; listed as "First Book Publication") $18 SOLD to OtherEric Another great double with Maguire art. Run If You Can looks like it could be Harry Barton but it remains uncredited. Fine/Fine Plus. Spine has slight slant but it's solid and the covers are smooth with hairline readers creases and minimal wear.
  13. Been a real busy morning but I'm going to try to get this thread fired back up with some promised Aces and others.... Ace D-41 DAY KEENE Death House Doll (cover by Harry Barton; 1953; listed as "ACE Original") and D-41b THOMAS B. DEWEY Mourning After (cover by Victor Olson; 1953; listed as "complete and unabridged") $45 SOLD to OtherEric A stunning copy from the High Grade collection. A condition rarity. You just don't run across these looking like this and it's a Key book with great cover art to boot. Very Fine minus. Just some hairline creasing and light edgewear. Definitely wasn't read. Killer colors and gloss like so many books from this collection. It has a musty smell from storage in it's former owners basement but it was certainly out of the light for many years.
  14. GOD BLESS .... -jimbo(afriend of jesus) Well played! Two awesome cover genre's (GGA & Skull covers) tied up in one amazing composition!
  15. I think that's gonna be it for tonight. I don't have any more pics taken from this afternoon and my OCD hates the way the covers come out under purely artificial light. Thanks for all the takes, likes & PM's There's plenty more to be released so stay tuned in. I'm surely going to be letting some Ace's and Avons loose, maybe some Popular Library's and still have some art covers stashed away to list.
  16. Carson of Venus by Edgar Rice Burroughs Ace 09202 $12 SOLD to mstrange Large Sea Serpent Frazetta cover. Later print of the Ace "Tall" edition. Fine/Very Fine. Super glossy, appears unread. No reader crease, has a light finger bend to bottom cover and a light color scrape at right. Tiny edgewear. Bright and white copy.
  17. The Land That Time Forgot by Edgar Rice Burroughs. Ace 47022 2nd Tall Frazetta Undated, probably 1973 or 1974 $12 SOLD to N e r V Awesome Alien crash landing cover by Frazetta Fine Plus. Structurally Very Fine. Unread, square and tight with virtually no handling wear. Has a bit of tiny color speckling that I''m downgrading a little for.
  18. The DumDum Murder by Carter Brown Signet S2196 First Edition First Printing October 1962 $20 SOLD to crassus Booty call! Excellent early McGinnis "tailights" cover Fine Plus. Square solid spine, glossy and tight, has some light finger bends and surface wear. Has a name in pen on the first page and a bunch of the Carter Brown titles crossed out in pencil on the checklist on page 2. There were already 40 titles by October 1962!
  19. Long Time No Leola by Carter Brown Signet D3190 First Edition, First Printing July 1967 $25 SOLD to crassus Great copy of this Nekkid Good Girl cover by Robert McGinnis Very Fine Minus/Very Fine. Solid, square binding. Great colors and gloss. Just has some light edgewear and surface wear. A top copy.
  20. For sure, considering it took me 6 years to find my current one, which still has a whisper of a crease.
  21. The Mistress by H.C. Branner Signet 1056 1st PB, 1st Printing October 1953 $20 SOLD to mstrange@ 30% off Early Signet Robert Maguire GGA cover in exceptionally nice shape. A beautiful combination of colors and composition. Fine Plus/Very Fine Minus. Glossy and unread. Has only traces of wear, including a small, light crease on the back cover and a small dot of paper on cover from another book that can probably be expertly removed. Pages are off white and inner covers are bright. Tough to find Signets looking like this.
