  1. Yeah, I should've put that in the medium-key category, though the first Molecule Man has had several spells where it has been red-hot. The greater point, as per my original intent, is get ALL the FF's between 1 and 20!
  2. What he said. After you target the mega-keys like 1, 2, 4, 5, 12 and 20 and then medium-keys like 3 (which I would consider a mega anyhow) and 6, and then you start picking off some minor keys like first Watcher and Ant-Man cameo and Molecule Man's debut, you might as well grab 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 14, 15, or whatever few others remain! It's unlike any other SA run, with the possible exception of ASM (which I think it still sufficiently eclipses).
  3. Just a crazy cool cover, and one of the Spicy's you never see. Congrats!!
  4. Were you there too? Next year all boardies should wear some sort of identifying accessory like a pin or a button...
  5. You see titles like this on the newsstands of old photos. Sure, sure this and the occasional Horror Stories or Terror Tales may have been absent on a few newsstands, but I have seen this title in period pics. Either way, it's a mind-numbing cover!
  6. Only one? You couldn't find a Ms. Marvel 1 or perhaps a Nova 1 9.8 to add some extra pizzazz to the thread?? My jaw drops just looking at this gem...
  7. Is that a scrape by the Spectre's hands on Adventure 431?
  8. When I was a teenager, I painted houses with an old-time decorator from Hudson, New York. He was a WWII vet and was in ragtime bands and the like his whole life, and had stories about the Depression and everything else you would want in a storyteller. He recalled in glorious detail buying that seminal book in the late spring of 1938 with the guy lifting the car on the cover. You know the one. He said he carried it around with him for weeks in his back pocket, reading it over and over. Him and his friends realized how big a deal it was right from the get-go. He also recalled with precision later keys like Flash 1 with stalwarts like Cliff Cornwall and and the Whip. Bill has since passed on, but I am still friends with his son who was the president of the local Fantastic Four club before they even hit a dozen issues (even though he remained much more faithful to the Lesion over time).
  9. What an insane cover!! How did these things EVER survive the newsstands month after month?? (And this wouldn't have even been an under-the-counter magazine...)
  10. Especially that older Love Story! What a great and unusual color palette.
  11. Great haul! I wish we had met and introduced ourselves. What else is in the suitcase??
  12. I spoke to this guy for a spell and had no idea he was boardie Catrick! He had some really nice Disney punch-out and activity books from the 30's that were in amazing shape.
  13. I was there but didn't take any photos. There were a ton of comic collectors (and dealers and flippers). Competition for good books at good prices was more frenzied than the action for pulps or paperbacks. As always there was a good variety of pulps and other stuff at a variety of prices. Some dealers had very brisk sales at all manner of price levels while others seemed to struggle to find buyers. This was the first year I didn't attend either the Friday night or Saturday night auction, as I have too much lower-end stuff as it is, and the better stuff always has stiff competition. Take a look at the pulps that were part of the Weinberg collection on Friday night, including the first issue of Weird Tales! http://windycitypulpandpaper.com/home/?page_id=2652 The auction also featured the second issue as well as the first REH issue, the Houdini issue, and many other keys. But as I stated earlier, the prices realized on that stuff are about ten times what I'd be willing to pay. I did get a few meager treasures for my scrapheap which I'll post later on. It's always a great show to visit with old-timers and even meet a few of the new blood. I even met a boardie or two, as they are somewhat easy to spot (such as when one old-time bookseller was pulling ungraded and even unbagged golden age out of beer crates).
  14. Wow, wow, and WOW! Some really iconic books here. I hope they find loving new homes...
  15. That IS great color on that copy! I've had my copy for many years but the colors come nowhere near these. It's like a different book. A great pick-up and no wonder it didn't last long,
