  1. There are ssooooo many amazing Avon one-shots!
  2. I watched the balance (or rather fast-forwarded via the cursor) of the 100-21 books and saw many of the books that would no doubt make many top 100 western lists. I just didn't agree with a lot of his top 20. The biggest omission for me was the lack of the Frazetta Ghost Rider covers. Unless he considers those "hero" books or something such, how in the world could several of those not make the top 100?? The top 20 for me was a little too Cole-centric. I feel some of those are just too muddled. There are a several more Baker and Kinstler covers I would've had in my top 20 let alone my top 100 (think Pancho Villa), but as you stated, what good is a list if it doesn't get your dandruff up?
  3. La Ladd starred in a bunch of westerns, but Shane is my favorite - here's a standee for Branded. This is the sort of thing that takes up lots of space (five feet tall) so you have to rotate which ones you display at any given time. That, or somehow create more wall space.
  4. There probably wouldn’t be a ton of overlap with my list, but I usually appreciate efforts like this as conversation starters more than definitive lists.
  5. I would go with Special Marvel Edition 15, as it introduces a character who successfully carried a long-running series and will be featured in it seems at least two major motion pictures. Additionally, it sports a classic Bronze Age cover - easily the best of the three books cited.
  6. This thread was great to revisit and I think very few of the opinions expressed herein would lack for allies. Many of these supposedly unpopular opinions offer some real insights.
  7. I worked with a carpenter once who was convinced two 2x6’s standing side by side were as good as one 2x12 on edge. I made some quick sketches and wrote some simplified formulae on a wall and identified the area moment of inertia as being key in comparing the two configurations. For many years after that, he’d never say “hello;” instead, he’d point to me and bellow “one-twelfth b h-cubed.”
  8. I’ve tried lighter fluid sparingly over the years on comics and magazines: it always lifted or smeared some ink. Experiment on some lower grade drek from the same era if possible before proceeding with any solvent.
  9. Thanks for taking the time to share these insightful summaries!
  10. There were, but many of them feature varying amounts of moisture damage, especially on the back. Thank goodness for the wide-ranging availability of these because of those finds; otherwise, we’d all be fighting each other for far fewer copies. $$$$$
  11. I found some western PB’s at an antique mall in a bookseller’s booth for $1.50 each. That mapback was one of a few I’m missing in the 200’s - and much the same with that Pocket.
  12. Thanks for the report, Rick! Who among doesn't enjoy the vicarious thrill upon viewing a room full of wonderful paper?
  13. We always hear about Kirby and Ditko working with Lee and the fabled “Marvel Method.” Who else was similarly adept working within this nebulous sphere of creation? Was Wood doing the heavy lifting on Daredevil (as I recall hearing whispers)? Did Don Heck help plot stories? What about Gene Colan? Asking for a friend…
