  1. This is why I still delight in oddball stuff from before my time like Pogo, Little Iodine, Howdy Doody, Sad Sack… Add to that works by Carl Barks, Walt Kelly, Winsor McKay and so on.
  2. Perhaps I can shed some light on this: It was definitely one of the top books of the bronze era during the bronze era.* After that, it started to take a back seat to the familiar suspects. * Along with Conan 1 (and all BWS), and to a lesser extent, the ASM drug issues, GL 76, and for a brief moment in time, Howard the Duck!!
  3. Very cool! I was going to tag you in my post on a suspicion that you had that patch! I’m going through some coverless 50’s DC. If I find that ad in one of them, I’ll set it aside for you.
  4. I just saw this in an old DC Gang Busters I was looking through:
  5. I never expected to pick up a 1st Series today when I went to a toy show. It’s beat but complete (save for those pieces missing from the cover!).
  6. I'm shocked at how many of these I don't recall seeing before. This title is stacked with poor taste!! I just can't help feeling it will be impossible to sell these on any venue in three to five years... That having been said, I should've pursued these harder back in the day!
  7. Some pulps were definitely available via subscription. They’re rare, but every once in a while, you run into one of the brown paper mailers they were sent in. Some, like the Shadow, had some smaller spot illos.
  8. Great books and congratulations on inching ever closer... I'm surprised that you still needed issue 77, as it's one that I've seen more often than many other early issues. Of course, the prices some sellers are asking for run fillers still verge on the obnoxious. I've been watching Dells for years and many listings on the Bay and even MCS still make me scratch my head (for example, a later mid-grade Mother Goose for 10x guide). I still grab an occasional Four Color here and there and even at $9.99, when shipping and/or sales tax is included, you have $20 invested in a run-filler that your heirs would be hard-pressed to get two or three bucks for. I imagine, however, when you're as close as you are to your goal, $20 is a screaming bargain for books you still need!
