  1. I was going to avoid posting this (as I have posted it before), but after those awesome photos by @Ditch Fahrenheit I figured what the heck, let's see more GA... Hopefully this will not annoy anyone (as Ditch puts it). I think I will refrain from posting any photos of books that I actually have a lot of copies of.
  2. Totally unacceptable behavior to even ASK someone to pay using F&F (as MIke @comicdonna pointed out). Assuming a seller did mistakenly go down this path and created a faux pas, then once the buyer says they are not comfortable using F&F, the discussion should be over. Once the buyer has paid (via the use of normal PP as is generally accepted), the seller should immediately package up the item and ship to buyer, without further discussion or delay (other than perhaps an apology for asking for F&F in the first place). I also think it is unacceptable for the seller to talk about what fees it costs him to buy, sell, or do anything else with his/her comics. None of that is relevant to the conversation. A price was set and paid. That is all that is relevant. Lastly, I agree with Sharon @skypinkblu NOT "naming names". She has a lot of class (as everyone here knows).
  3. I buy books I like. If I like them a lot, I tend to buy multiple copies as I find them. I have no interest or desire to sell them, so to answer your question (for me), it has nothing to do with what they are worth today or in the future, but rather it is because I am a little .
  4. 80 copies! That is a lot to have of a relatively common book. There appear to be nearly 2000 graded on the census (1942 total with 1700 universal). A quick search on eBay showed there are currently over 50 copies available there (not all graded). His collection is still impressive, and I appreciate you sharing the photo and the link.
  5. I would not so readily concede that Cal takes 1st place (with owning the most copies of a single SA book), however, I could be wrong (as I don't know his exact number). I have read through this thread and appreciate the OP asking the question. I think it is more interesting if we divide this into age categories. Maybe Chuck (at Mile High) owns 1000 copies of some book no one would want for anything but to use as a fire starter, however, I would not put that in the same league as someone who owns numerous copies of some SA / GA book. I am NOT trying to discourage ANYONE from showing photos of any book they have multiple copies of. PLEASE keep the photos and posts coming (for any and all books). I am just saying the playing field may not be level when comparing books from different eras. Great thread!
  6. Sorry, I am rather new to the forum and was not here for the conversation 15 years ago. My intention was not to take up space with a question that had already been discussed.
  7. There is so much in your posts that I agree with that I could not simply hit the like button. 1) I also don't seek out graded copies for myself, however, if I want the book and it happens to be in a case, I buy it anyway. 2) I can't agree more that some books don't deserve even the cost to slab them, however, people are entitled to do what they want with their books and cash. 3) Although I own numerous slabbed books, I don't think I own even ONE book in a slab that I don't have at least one other raw copy available for reading.
  8. I can understand this. When CGC first came around, I thought it wouldn't last. I figured no one would want a book they could not read. Clearly, I was wrong in my assumption and as you can see from my sig line, I prefer my books raw, however, I will buy CGC books when a book comes along that I want and it happens to be in a case.
  9. I also remember (and in some ways miss) those days of getting and ordering from mail order paper catalogs. I remember having to list “alternates” in case my first choices were not available, and then waiting for the mail every day to see what I would actually receive.
  10. I also live on the east coast, however, seeing these beautiful books may just convince me to jump on a plane next year!
  11. Thank you. You are probably right. Not sure there is a way to "move" it now.
  12. I am curious as to how others view the value of two comparable books when one is in a CGC case and one is not. Although I often prefer my books raw and readable, I have often felt it was okay to pay a certain "premium" for a book that was in a CGC case because 1) I knew it was restoration free and 2) I figured the seller had to invest a certain amount into getting the book graded. At a recent convention, however, I ran into a dealer who had a non key book for sale. I had just purchased the same book at auction in 6.0 and I thought his copy was a 5.0 / 5.5, and yet it was priced higher than I had paid for my CGC 6.0 "win". Given, I still wanted his copy (which I could actually read), I told him what I had paid at auction (and the auction house I had purchased it from - Not eBay). He told me that he thought his copy was also a 6.0 and his price was firm (even though it was higher than I had paid for the CGC copy). I fully respect every seller's decision to charge whatever they want for their books; I am not questioning or debating that at all. I am just curious if other buyers are willing to pay a premium (or feel the FMV of a book is higher) if the book is in a CGC case. Thoughts???/
  13. Here is a Jonah Hex piece KAV was kind enough to make for me (to give to my brother, who is a huge Hex fan)…..
  14. I agree that the spread between 13 and 15 seems high. In fact I prefer the cover of 15 to that of 13. Then again, what do I know?
  15. Made a deal with Gene last night for numerous books. Today he hand delivered them. WOW! What a great and easy guy to work with. The books were as (or better) than described and his price was more than fair. Gene is the kind of guy that makes these boards a great place to be.
  16. If you really want the book, just send Rick a PM. He is easy to work with and books move through his collection rather quickly. He is not a “black hole” collector like some of us.
  17. Just a quick THANK YOU, to @OdinsSecrets I received my prize in the mail today and it looks even better in person than in the photo.
  18. Seriously??? This is like a train wreck! I think I might just throw up....
  19. I agree with a lot of what you said, however, how many uninformed buyers are there these days? I can see how back in the "old days" someone could charge "mile high' (aka sky high) prices for books in hopes that someone might not know where else to find the same book for less. In todays world of the internet, however, with just a few clicks, I think most anyone could see that Mile High is IMO "off the charts" with their pricing.
  20. I want to thank @thirdgreenham and @sckao for taking all the time and effort to run this fantastic contest. Thanks to @01TheDude for handing out the prizes. And thanks to all the generous prize contributors!
