  1. Apparently ONE person thought that eBay raw was worth the $9,300 or at least was worth the risk. I agree with Bob that a book in that range with a "No Return" policy is not something I would have been comfortable with.
  2. I agree, Dave. I had this same problem/question when I purchased my B&W copy of "If the Devil Would Talk". I was told CGC would not grade it (even though others will).
  3. Amen or +1 or "like" or whatever you kids are saying these days.
  4. I just read this from page 1 of this thread (2003). If the poster though higher graded GA books were getting expensive back in 2003, I would be curious what they thought of prices today.
  5. Are you telling me you don't think the great Serena should be allowed to "be couched from the sidelines", "destroy her tennis racket in a rage in front of a crowd of people", and "insult the ref"??? Do you know how great a tennis player you are talking about here, KAV???
  6. This concept could work, however, the legal documentation would be considerable. I would say for 1 book, it would not be worth doing, however, a group of "investors" could start a "fund" in which the assets of the fund were high end comic books. Obviously, like any investment fund, it would need to be managed by someone who would have the ultimate decision on when to buy or sell a given asset (a particular book). No, the individual investors would NOT get to take the books (the assets of fund) home with them. The assets of the fund would need to be stored in a secure location and insured. There is a LOT that would need to go into making this work, however, it is possible. The BIG question would be who to get to manage the fund. If it were my investment, I would want someone like @G.A.tor . Not that he would have any interest in such a project, but he would be the kind of man I would want managing it. Someone with his thumb on the comic market and MORE importantly, someone I could trust.
  7. May each of you enjoy a happy and blessed New Year.
  8. Kav, I think the simplest solution is for you to simply tear off the back cover. Problem solved.
  9. Maybe one year I will stack up a pile of Jo Jo(s) and have people guess how many are in the pile. Just for you KAV
  10. Thanks, Tim. And thanks for putting this together each year. It is a lot of fun and I know you spend a lot of time and energy trying to make sure everyone has a good time with the annual event.
  11. $1,116.02 (this includes the previously spotted wheat penny at face value).
  12. After seeing some of the posts here, clearly, I am out of my league.
  13. +1. (sorry, not much into the "like" button). I agree that most of the BIG SELLERS, probably press a lot of their books (as they are looking to resell and maximize profits). Since I am a collector (not a seller), my thoughts on the subject are likely significantly different than those who are in the business of selling comics. I am rather certain, however, that at some point in time, I likely purchased a pressed comic without even knowing it.
  14. Gee, I can't imagine why overpriced, over graded, common as dirt books are not selling like hot cakes.
  15. Did this book come from Mile High? Recently?
  16. I don't know how he stays in business, Dave, but someone must be buying his overpriced trash (that he refuses to show photos of or even describe). Someone out there must actually think this is an acceptable way of conducting business.
  17. Great thread, Jay, and congratulations. I remember you and I talking about you finishing this up while we were at the Baltimore Convention this year. I am glad you were finally able to get it done. From looking at your bar graphs (which I really like, BTW), it appears the Planet hunt became a real addiction somewhere around 2016. Nothing like completing a run! Great work on a great title.
