  1. Looks like a green light to continue the series but reprinting the Warrior material is still an issue unless an agreement with the likes of Leech and Davis can be brokered. Note that Davis refused to sign at least 2 MM comics at Ohio last month so he still has problems with the Eclipse Warrior reprints (I thought I would take a chance with all the rumours that a deal might have been made with him but alas they are being returned unsigned). Fingers crossed though, if it is just an issue with missing royalties then we may see a re-print, if Davis has other issues then we might see something else. I can certainly see Marvel trying pretty hard to get a full reprint; they could make a mint on #15 with variants (1:200 sketch cover etc).
  2. Well thank you for the unsolicited plug - very nice thing to do. The auction is now finished and the 8 books went for just £210 - HOWEVER this low price is kind of what I was expecting - and they have gone to a very good home. So after selling much of my Miracleman collection (again) here's my views - WHITE HOT 9.9s No.15 raw in nice shape (often sell higher than graded - strangely) Full sets Hard-backs HOT Fanzines No. 23 & no.24 raw in nice shape Original L Miller Marvelman (what I'm collecting now) 9.8 Sig series Promo's TPBs COOLED 9.8 normal - just about every issue inc. no.15 and no.24 COLD 1-10 raw, 17-22 raw Any graded under 9.8 I don't watch the OA market so don't know? thoughts? BTW, I contacted a key source about the MM re-launch - he described it all as "fanboy speculation" or words to that effect... I think I mostly agree with this. I have struggled to sell some cgc9.6's and even some cgc9.8 so the market seems to have dropped a little. However, I did sell two CGC 9.6 earlier in the year and quite a few raw copies more recently for a modest amount more than I originally paid. The later Alan Moore/Totleben issues are always popular, #24 (as you say) and also #1 "Gold" always attracts interest; the s/s books are a bit hit and miss: some go for mega-bucks but some are just not selling (but I think that is down to them being over-priced in some cases). Shame if what you say is true about MM re-launch. There was a rumour there would be an announcement this Fall/Autumn but maybe Marvel have not been able to broker deals with the all the early artists (Davis especially as he was very unhappy with the Eclipse reprints as they were against his wishes and he didn't receive any royalties for them!).
  3. Wow Ewan that is a great set of badges. Your post immediately got me thinking as I know I had some of these. Then I remembered I had some on a jacket when I dressed up as Vivian for a fancy dress party back in 80's and then again in the early 90's: I suspected it might have been chucked but it turned up at the back of a wardrobe: So I have badges G and R !!
  4. I had a couple of cheeky bids but I knew I wouldn't win
  5. I think most of therm are here: They are all 9.8's except the last one, which is a 9.4
  6. CGC 9.8 is worth around $350-$400. If you sent it to Rich, then I guess you are looking for a Totleben signature, which pushes the price well over $500 (if it stays at 9.8 s/s). If you went for a sketch, and you got a good one, these have sold for around $1,100, if they held their grade (9.8 s/s & sketch). However, the Totleben prices will come down a little as he has now completed two private signings and will be attending Cincinnati as well this year. As for a #15 CGC 9.9, well it is unique and sits at the top of the census so Ewan's estimate of $2,000 seems about right and his #12 9.9 should make over $500. I might have to sell one of my kidneys.......
  7. I can see your temptation but PLEASE don't buy it, I'm BEGGING you, don't do it; at the moment there is just a faint possibility, a small slim chance, that one of us lesser mortals might catch you in the registry, one day in a far off future. If you took away that chance I don't know what we would do....we would be in a state of despair, broken, demoralised, without purpose and our sets would fall into disrepair . Put your temptation back into that dark place and lift the lives of your fellow boardies and give us renewed hope. PS: Don't let JJ buy it either!
  8. Looks like a home game is in full swing; the fan has arrived and parked his bike outside
  9. If JJ has it, it isn't in his set yet (don't think his score has changed by that much since it has been obscured). If the owner isn't one of the registry set contenders then maybe it will come up for sale. The head sketch #15's are the most expensive MM's so far and they market for over $1,000 (although they probably cost half that to put together: 9.8 + sketch/grading fees). I would say a #15 9.9 would go for a whole lot more but very hard to tell how much given there is only one, it's the top collected book in the set and there are lots of potential buyers out there. I just submitted 3 x #15's, 1 x #17 and 1 x #24 but wont see them for a while as I only paid for "very slow" CGC grading. Don't think there are any 9.9's in there but you never know.
  10. Many congratulations Ewan and apologies for my suggestion it was pressed (just saw one less 9.8 and a 9.9 appear; 1+1=3 ). I think that makes you joint top in the set so you just need one more s/s to take the lead back to Albion! Mark Buckingham has been signing quite a few recently and Totleben is also signing again in September so it should be an interesting battle for the set this year but that 9.9 will be unbeatable in the long run. Well done but if you want to sell it for a reasonable sum.... or maybe swap it for something interesting?
  11. Looks like a Miracleman #15 has been pressed (or simply re-graded) from a 9.8 into a 9.9 (one less 9.8 in the census and a 9.9 is there now sitting at the top of the pile!!). The lucky submitter is as good as guaranteed to get top of the registry set if they have the rest of them. Maybe it will come up for sale but not many will be able to afford it, including me I suspect. I am now officially jealous!
  12. I just estimated that there are close to 30 creative talents (pencillers, inkers, colorists and writers) involved with the Eclipse Miracleman, that's more than the number of issues!
  13. Tell the Misses it's for "future" investment I suspect telling the kids their holiday in Florida is cancelled due to an "investment opportunity" would lead to some expensive litigation, a serious head injury and a sudden inability to have further children due to an inexplicable and violent upward movement of my wife's knee...
  14. have to think about that, a #1 9.8 Alan Moore, very tempting.... marriage or comic...difficult decision... Alternatively I could get a #1 Gold NM- copy for around $850 and flatten it into a 9.8 using a friend's trouser press.
  15. Many thanks for the kind comments, I was really pleased to get this one. There are a few more MM Mark Buckingham sketches on eBay but I think the best two so far are here on this thread (#22 and #24). I would really love to have a full set of MM including Moore's and Gaiman's signatures plus sigs. or sketches off each artist involved but that is probably never going to happen (heard Alan Davis does not even sign MM books and many of the cover and interior artists are pretty elusive and/or in the UK so are not so easily accessible for s/s books). Also Mr Moore's signature, which is pretty easy to get hold of on raw comics, is extremely rare and seriously expensive on CGC s/s.
  16. Not sure which sketch I like best. The black penned sketch is a bit more precise but the silver one blends into the background a little more...
  17. UK Customs are on the rampage at the moment - seemingly stopping everything. Unfortunately, I believe, posters and original art would attract VAT, and if so, then there would be import duty due - sorry Has anyone else had this problem? Hi, I had the problem with a set of Miracleman comics I bought from eBay in the States where I was charged VAT and the shipper held the package hostage until the ransom was paid. Afterwards I did put in a claim to the UK Border Agency as comic books are meant to be VAT free but I didn't think I would get anywhere. However, last week I got a cheque back for the full amount, although the accompanying letter was full of legal jargon about not prejudicing future decisions on future imports. I just need to try and claim the admin fee back off the shipper now! Since then I have asked that sellers put PRINTED PAPERS (comic books) in massive letters on the parcels and on the customs forms in the hope the UK Border Agency let them through without charge (no bills yet).
