  1. It has been over 72 hours. With all do respect, this guy never had any leg to stand on. He not only didn't reply, he tried to evade at all costs, deleting messages, changing his name, and deleting himself from our pm thread. He deserves the probation list at all costs. I've never had a problem like this, and hope no other boardie has to go through this. My money has been refunded fortunately. He did not reply at all to paypal as well. I suppose we all know why he had paypal issues. I will not publicly post his/her info, but I will provide any info I can through pm to ensure he doesn't scam again. Thank you to all the boardies who supported me in this thread or through pm. I love being a part of this community. Actually, you certainly SHOULD publically post his full name/address so if he tried to sell under a different account (or on ebay), we can all know to avoid him. He is a thief, there is no reason to not fully expose him for what he is.
  2. Is there an up to date confirmed listing of what characters will be in the 2016 SS movie? I know about the main team members, wondering about rumors like King Shark and so on.
  3. Don't sell it. You may regret it later. -J. I'll only sell it if it's a 9.6 CGC 9.6 = FML Jerome I call nonsense , on that statement. This is not a common modern, wherein a 9.8 sells for $75 and a 9.6 sells for a third of the 9.8 price. 9.6 is a hair away from 9.8...and the last recorded sale of a 9.6 was $2500. IIRC, the 9.8 last week sold for $3800. I'd rather have a 9.6, and keep $1300 or so, in my pocket....than pay upwards of $4000 for a 9.8.
  4. I'd suggest that anyone who is *seriously interested* in a CGC 9.6 to send my man Costas a PM on this forum. I am sure he would be happy to remove his ASM 678 CGC 9.6 Venom Variant BIN/or Best Offer listing from eBay and sell it to a boardie at a better price than he has it on eBay. Keep in mind eBay eats up on average around 10% of sale prices. I have traded with Costas before and he has other boardie references available, he's stand up. .I've met him in person a few times as well, he's a good dude; a family man and he is also a police officer in Easton PA, as well. That said, I totally vouch for the guy.
  5. There's a grand total of 2 right now. Costas' new to market 9.6, and another new to market 9.6 that Greg Reece is auctioning off right now (that's already at $1200+ after just a few hours of bidding). The lone 9.8 that lasted on ebay for less than a day was also new to market and was the first new 9.8 added to the census in nearly a year and the first offered for sale publicly in over a year. The first wave of books we saw were raw copies. Now a few opportunistic sellers who fast tracked their raw copies through CGC are cashing in on the price spike with a few slabs. Seems par for the course to me. (thumbs u -J. Reece's 9.6 slabbed copy is at $1500....as I type this, which is within 5 hours of the book being put up for auction. I do not see the value of this book dropping, in any grade. The demand far outweighs the supply. Hell, even a 9.4 sold for $2000, in March.Granted it was a signature series but the signature was Joe Quinones, a name that I never heard. The 9.8 that was ended early as it was "no longer available" yesterday has yet to register on the GPA.My guess is that it will not, if it was even sold.Maybe the seller wants more money. That seller is probably a boardie, as well.......if so, and you happen to be reading this, please post up the transaction details, kind sir.
  6. Amazing Spider Man 678 Venom Variant http://www.ebay.com/itm/The-Amazing-Spider-man-678-Venom-variant-CGC-9-6-/161701291576?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25a625e638 The last recorded (GPA) sale of a 9.6 is $2500. As of right now, this is the only copy on the market, that is for sale. The seller in this link is a boardie.....and I have seen the book in person.....it is a solid 9.6. Gotta say I am pumped to see the results of this sale.
  7. Good post. Not directly related to comics but in the same vein of taking a stance against racism through an entertainment medium, that reached wide audiences,in a time where racism was much more prevalent than it is today and this sort of "liberal" social commentary was not looked upon with open arms ....., a lot of the late 60's Twilight Zone episodes were ahead of their time , as well.Issues that were not regularly discussed openly, like racism, were addressed head on through what were subversive story plot lines. These sorts of "baby steps" by Rod Serling (and Stan Lee, as well) certainly brought such topics to a much more wide stream American viewing audience and I agree it is commendable for white men in the 1960's to be willing to speak openly in a manner that succinctly addressed the underlying dark side of the American Dream land of the 1960's, which otherwise was completely oblivious to the civil rights movement.
  8. Either Joey or CCS will crack the slab open for you, no worries. Packaged with the slabbed book, I would include the following, so the book is ready to go after it has been prepped for grading.....not that Joe or CCS would not give you more than adequate protection, I like to be (over) cautious and (cough) borderline paranoid when submitting my books for grading/pressing (thumbs u 2 Silver/Gold Full Backs. Inserted into a silver/gold size Mylite 2 with the slightly concaved side facing upwards so the spine of the book is cradled...... Fold the flap , with the 2 fullbacks inside the Mylite2, and hold it tightly onto a flat surface...press out as much air as possible....then crease the folded over flap with your thumbnail......apply 2 small pieces of Scotch gift tape to seal the flap....careful not to place either piece of tape too close to the edges (especially the spine) ....seal the M2/full backs tightly. Then place the sealed bag/boards into a golden age/super golden age or Magazine Mylite2 with the corresponding size of 1 Fullback....crease the flap, same as before and seal , same as before. Or use a magazine top loader with a magazine full back, instead of the secondary M2/Full back precaution. ....then again, this is all likely overkill as either Joey or CCS will take the appropriote measures to protect the book before it is graded (post slab opening/pressing)..........I am as anal retentive as can be, when storing my slab worthy books.
  9. That is a low end sale...9.8's have been selling for at least $200 via BIN's for the past year, IIRC. I doubt there is direct any connection to the Age of Ultron, but I would not be surprised to see a Thanos/Infinity Gauntlet tie-in teaser of some sort, after the credits finish.... Marvel pulled the same sorta segue with the end scene, after Thor and and GOTG. They know how to sell movies, gotta give 'em that...consequently, speculators go batshiiiit crazy on possible tie in movie keys. Not sure if this is good for the hobby in the long term, though.
  10. Good call on not selling it, as is. If you can get a grade bump if it is pressed, I would send it over to Joeypost or CCS for pressing/dry cleaning .....and then, sell it (thumbs u
  11. He's racking up the ignores left and right, especially after his juvenile post in the Gold section yesterday. What did he say? Did the post get scrubbed? Yes, the post I made got deleted. I posted a comment which was meant as a *joke*, in the "Ask Gator" thread....which had about 500 pages of questions. It struck me as a "Dear Abby" sort of thread, so in that vein, I posted up a playful joke....the intended IRONY of which was apparently* lost on the boardies who read it and reported the post to a moderator. Other than that, assuming one's sense of humor is limited, I see no reason why "Illustrious" would state that I'm racking up ignores left and right. I would ask him if there is such a reason, to kindly post it up here, instead of smearing my name , as I've got nothing to hide and I highly value the information shared freely on the forum..... Likewise, I'm not too keen on the insinuation that my comments , thoughts and the like should be disregarded ("racking up ignores.left and right" ) as that seems disrespectful. *completely
  12. Hmph. All that leg work I did and I neglected to actually fully inspect the magnified scans.... Yes, I see the tear/hole forming that you're referring to now, that I magnified the pic. I also managed to miss the tear, at the LBC on the FC.....that tear alone, would likely bring the book to a 9.6. I cannot see a crease (big or little) on the back cover above the Super Powers logo. Not saying it is not there, just with the white background of the BC , I can't make out any crease, on my computer screen.I'm assuming you have a better monitor. I am not sure if the possible scuff ( on BC to the left of Luthor's leg) is production related or not. All in all, I agree with the two of you that this book would not fetch a 9.8 from CGC/CBCS.With the defects I can see, it is likely a 9.4. It's a 9.8 PGX, all day long, though .....ugh.
  13. Congratulations on the sale, but holy carp, that is an insane outlier. Thanks! It's also an insanely high grade copy. Did Divad just admit that it was an outlier? This makes me want to start listing some raw 9.8 books on eBay..... though the idea of having a buyer paw over a raw 9.8 book and send it back to me , with a newly incurred spine tic and/or fingerprints on a black cover (etc etc) ....for a refund, is what is holding me back. Did you get those 9.9 copies graded yet? Actually, I have not.Kindly refrain from breaking my balls any further intil I actually submit those 4 books.
  14. Congratulations on the sale, but holy carp, that is an insane outlier. Thanks! It's also an insanely high grade copy. Did Divad just admit that it was an outlier? I was curious so I looked at a few of the other auctions Flyingdonut linked and Divad did get top dollar on this book, but none of the other raw copies listed were advertised as 9.8....from the looks of it, Divad is the only seller who had a raw copy that is a dead on 9.8. Here's another listing of a raw 9.4 copy, seller is also a boardie, sold for $26.95 (w/free shipping) http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crisis-on-Infinite-Earths-8-Nov-1985-DC-Death-of-Barry-Allen-NM-/171445894315?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27eaf8bcab&nma=true&si=it5fGwEwyNjDpFU8JAzKBaL4blo%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Divad's copy is a dead on 9.8, from the scans. A CGC 9.6 ( which was relatively rough looking compared to Divad's 9.8 raw copy) got a few bucks les s than than Divad's raw 9.8. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Crisis-on-Infinite-Earths-8-CGC-Graded-9-6-NM-Death-of-the-Flash-/381216841978?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item58c24b60fa Completed ebay listings for the past month show that a CGC 9.8 sold for $125 + $13 shipping. Another CGC 9.8 went for $107.49 , in auction....and it was a free shipping item, as well....so Divad made out considerably better with his sale of an $85 raw 9.8 (plus shipping) than the unlucky who put his CGC 9.8 up for auction.....and he also did just about as well (profit wise) as the seller who sold a CGC 9.8 for $125. This makes me want to start listing some raw 9.8 books on eBay..... though the idea of having a buyer paw over a raw 9.8 book and send it back to me , with a newly incurred spine tic and/or fingerprints on a black cover (etc etc) ....for a refund, is what is holding me back.
  15. Good thread...just bumping it to ask if anyone has a duplicate copy of Two-Gun Kid 17 and/or 60 , that they wouldn't mind selling or trading Both of my sweeter higher grade personal copies seem to have been inadvertently sold by my helper, at East Coast Comic Con, last weekend....I had intended on having them slabbed at the show.. That said, pretty much any grade would be acceptable, just to re-fill my full run of TGK.
  16. Because of eBay's Global Shipping program? No, I am not enrolled in eBay's Global Shipping program. The buyer paid $14.90 ( total) for shipping b/c the box was shipped to Switzerland. .....if I were enrolled into the feeBay global selling(swiping) program, the shipping billed to the buyer by feeBay would have been around $30.With around 50% of that $30 going directly into eBay's coffers. $14.90 was the total cost that the buyer paid for shipping....just mentioned that to illustrate that the total paid for the book (shipping included) was $80.91 $14.90 sent via usps 1st class international air mail, in a well packaged BOX, from the USA to Switzerland is what the USPS charged me. How do you know it went to Switzerland? I thought winners were supposed to be anonymous. Yes, all bidders are anonymous on eBay. I know it went to Switzerland because it was my auction listing, I shipped it to the winning bidder myself.
  17. It is a waste of time looking at current turn around rates for modern/economy tiers at either of the grading firms. You can expect at least 4 months. You get what you pay for, I learned that the hard way....from both companies.I'll add that the turn around rates for economy/modern tiers are reasonable, for both firms, when you consider the below: When you are paying at most $20 to have a modern book slabbed, and you stand to be able to make easily ten times that figure once the book is slabbed and it can be sold as a 9.8 or whatever....of course, either firm is not going to bend over backwards to get your books graded, slabbed and shipped back to you within 30 days of your submission. Fast tracking is the only viable option.....unless you simply want the books for your own collection so having your funds tied up for 4 months while the books sit in grading, isn't going to hurt you.
  18. Because of eBay's Global Shipping program? 19. http://www.ebay.com/itm/201319679328?ssPageName=STRK:MESOX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1561.l2649 Cap 109 raw FN for $66.01, the buyer also paid an additional $14.90 for shipping to Switzerland. ....and comics4less sold a raw VG/FN in auction for $76, a couple months back. I think this book is a big sleeper, in relation to the origin tie into the Winter Soldier/next Cap movie....I can see prices for white page slabbed copies in 9.4/higher doubling by the time the movie comes out. 2015 Overstreet also lists this book at $150 in NM- , which is a joke.
  20. Haha, you are quite correct , sir. I'd wager that anyone who is shelling out $the absurd amounts being paid for this 648 variant already has a 9.8 copy of #300......if not both a slabbed 9.8 newsstand and a slabbed 9.8 direct market edition. I can understand being a completist die hard full run collector but paying over 2K for a non-key modern book is really out there Gotcha. Trickle down effect. That is actually one of the nicer, less over the top other ones IMO. -J.
  21. Ah, I gotcha....congrads, then. And Hell of yes , you made the right call in taking the $2500 offer (thumbs u I can't believe how big the demand is, either. A buyer could have 2 slabbed cgc/cbcs 9.8's of Venom's 1st app. in ASM 300 with a few hundred to spare, for what the 648 variant is going for now.
  22. Thanks for the heads up, it's a shame this d-bag gave you a negative....contacting eBay, with the email exchanges you have and so on, may get the negative removed as you clearly did nothing to deserve a negative rating.
  23. $20 to press one modern book? :o Eh, what? $20 is a damn good price, grumble, grumble.. tightwad...grumble grumble. Kidding aside, you are grossly overlooking the fair market value and the turn around time. I received the ASM 648 variant from Costas in person at the South Jersey Comic Con on 3/1/15, we agreed to meet there as I was a vendor at the show anyway and IIRC, he said he'd be going to that show. Pretty nice guy, by the way.And his girlfriend is cute, so my hat's off to him, again. Anyway the ASM was a 9.0 to 9.2, when he gave it to me.It would probably have fetched a 9.2. One week later.....he picked it up from me at my tables the Big Apple Con 3/7/15 and he subbed it to CGC , that day at the show. CCS would have charged him 2.5% of the fair market value of the book for "walkthrough pressing" (estimated turnaround time 2-3 weeks)....so with a fair market value asessment of $2000, call that 2.5% fee $50. Add $100 for fast tracked walk through( estimated turnaround of 1 week) and the CCS bill for pressing "just one modern book" would have been $150.....which, mind you, is still well worth the investment, I can't state that emphatically enough. I also got a Hulk 181 and a Shazam 1 from Costas on 3/1/15....pressed and dry cleaned both of those books at $20 a shot.I did not dry clean the ASM as the book had no marring on it, at all.The Shazam 1 involved a light bit of dry cleaning....it was a nice book to begin with, it just had some waviness due to improper storage. The Hulk 181 was a pain in the balls, OTOH....took a lot of work to optimize its grading potential. Alright then....those 2 books....at a 1 week turn around time....with that....would have been another $300, added onto the tab, thru CCS. He got a 9.2 on the Shazam 1....it was a VF 8.0....haven't heard from him on the Hulk 181 grade yet but I suspect it'll come back around a 5.0.It was around a 3.5 to begin with. Look up the GPA on Hulk 181 in 5.0 and Shazam 1 in 9.2.....at $20 a piece for pressing, he will get a very nice return , once he gets them back from CGC and sells them (thumbs u He PM'd me thru the board a while back, said he read some of my posts on pressingand he asked for some advice....I told him how I went out about pressing, offered suggestions and later on I offered my pressing services at $20 per book.He said "yeah, alright man...$20 a book works for me", basically. We agreed to meet at a show I was a vendor at, and I looked the 4 books he brought with him....I passed on his Captain America # 100 b/c the color breaking creases would prevent a grade bump....so I took the 3 books which would benefit from pressing and/or dry cleaning and I gave him a signed contract. We shook hands. I returned the 3 books to him, prepped for grading, all of 7 days later at the Big Apple Con.We shook hands and the deal was done. And God Bless him, he made out good with the one book so far, and he'll make out nicely with the other 2, as well.He posted positive feedback for me in my kudos thread, that is all I can ask for and I appreciate his solid feedback. I charge a flat $20 fee for pressing, dry cleaning as called for, with no other costs, AT ALL.No matter how much money stands to be made off a book.....so all things considered, I dunno where you're getting all over charging $20 for "pressing one modern book". I do this because I do NOT press books for a living and as such, I can handle pressing a few comics for a boardie on occasion without having to take him to the cleaner's (pun may or may not be intended) In any event, as every boardie here already knows quite well..... CCS's fees are very reasonable , as are the other company's subbed out pressing service's fees (CFP) are very reasonable, considering the return one realizes when the books are sold. This is self evident. .....the only tangible upside for me is not the fee of $20 per book, clearly.Twenty bucks isn't a lotta money, we're talking about the equivalent of a 12 pack of Guinness.....and like half a pack of ciggarettes.....sheeit, I'll smoke those 5 ciggies before and after I press a $500+ book on account of the stress and work involved, all for what..... a lone Andrew Jackson? You try putting vinyl gloves onto over sized monkey hands, then dry cleaning a book with beads of sweat pouring down yer face, having the worry of a myriad of undesirable (unlikely but still possible) scenarios of effing up and damaging someone else's book, running through your head...it's not fun, I can assure you of that, my friend. Nope, no upside involved with an Andrew Jackson received for dry cleaning & pressing a book. The upside for me is that I get positive feedback on my pressing....sooooo, if I decide, down the line, that I WANT to take on more pressing work, I will have a springboard in place, to do so.And yeah, I don't mind hooking a fellow boardie up, every once in a while. I do suggest that if one is considering having pressing/dry cleaning done before subbing books for grading, that they contact the big boys (CFP or CCS) , and not myself. Occasional side work is fine by me but I have waaaaay too many of my own comics, which I need to dry clean and press, to consistently offer to be under compensated for my time CFP and CCS are also the best in the business and I gladly continue to pay for their dry cleaning/pressing services, when I submit books to CGC (or the other company) because I know they earn every dollar that they get from me. ********** END OF ***********
  24. If I am not mistaken, Costas got $2700 for it.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Amazing-Spider-Man-678-Venom-variant-CGC-9-6-/161674063230?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25a4866d7e&nma=true&si=GPeiRTziuxEEkKRUdcLaYH3luwQ%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557 Guess I shoulda charged him more than $20 for pressing the book before he subbed it last month Good job on the sale, Costas
  25. Interesting?I think not. I can crystal ball that for you....you price the book at $500 or a $1000 more of the highest recorded sale for BA 12 in 9.8 and......it won't sell. I'd also be inclined to think that if someone sees a yellow post-it that reads "$2500" or more on a BA 12, you will drive away potential customers who would assume that the rest of your prices are also well above current norms.
