  1. Marvel vs DC 1-4....hmph, I know for certain that I have some of these variants, stashed away.Figured they may have been something so I kept them. Gotta wonder if GPA reflects sales of these variants? I'll have a look see.... I stashed a raw candidate 9.8 (newsstand) set to be graded later, gotta wonder if the logo variants are even better....
  2. Picked up a solid book at a good price from John. Well packed and super fast shipping, too.I'll buy from again, anytime.
  3. A book like a mid grade DS 169, you'd be better off dry cleaning and pressing and selling it raw via BIN for virtually the same price as a slabbed mid grade copy..... then tieing up more money and time with having it slabbed. The $25 value track grading fee does not account for shipping, nor the fact that value track comes with about a 3 month waiting period.Or maybe 6 weeks, if fast tracked which is another $10 out of your pocket. I don't see much sense in breaking even on a mid grade DS 169, especially adding the cost of grading/fast tracking....then waiting maybe 2 months for the book to arrive. You are investing a decent chunk of time with the dry cleaning/pressing...+ the cost of the book + CGC fees. After you put in the requisite work to dry clean and press the Doc Strange yourself....call that anywhere from 30-60 minutes of dry cleaning, that's how long it takes me to thoroughly dry clean a mid grade SA book, I don't just dry clean white areas, I'll use a dry cleaning sponge and putty on the entire FC and BC, to remove virtually any surface dirt/,marks/stains etc and naptha for any gunk that I can't get up otherwise....then there is humidifying & pressing to put in....ugh. You can get around a $100 for a raw VG/FN DS 169 via BIN.A buddy of mine sold a raw VG+ for $85 via BIN recently.I think it took him around 2 weeks to sell it after it was listed. He bought it at a comic store for $20, dry cleaned the book (he doesn't have a press) and flipped it pretty easily. I bought a mid grade DS 169 at Wizard Philly for $20 or $25, and when I get around to dry cleaning/pressing it, I'll put it up raw for around a $100 and I'm confident it won't take long to sell. If we were talking about a book which had potential to grade out, (post dry cleaning and pressing) as a 6.0 or better, then you'd get a better return on slabbing it vs. selling it raw via BIN...... BUT to do all that work and then invest more money and time by slabbing a 4.5 to just break even or at best to make 10-20% in 3-4 months after you pay for the book.... That is what I would consider a STRAIGHT UP LOSS.
  4. That is a helluva weird cover...and a Lovecraft story as well....nice find (thumbs u I should post up some pics of the pulps I have.I have a small handful, if that, of 1930's and '40's pulps.Maybe 50 from the 50's and 125-150 from the 60's and I'd guess 50 from the 70's.Most of which I picked up off eBay in 2 separate lots from the same seller, with shipping factored in each pulp costs me about fifty cents .This was about 2 years ago, and I JUST last week finished reading through the bulk of the them....now, THAT is the best damn possible bang for your buck in pure entertainment value Just goes to show that you can still find some good deals on eBay, if you dig long enough and focus on big lots. Edit: In preemptive defense of what might appear to be a poor reading comprehension level, I should note that I normally dig through a 100+ page pulp in one sitting
  5. Good to hear that. Yeah, I haven't seen a nicer copy. The grader's notes paint it as a solid 9.0....but it's a helluva nice 9.0. There was a sharp CGC 7.5 which closed for $1550 about a month or 2 ago.....this book is much nicer, even with the resto.......*kind of*.... that is, it would be much nicer had some dolt not trimmed it. The grader's notes pasted below, make the resto seem very light.Even the amount of trimming sounds pretty marginal. The highest grade universal on the census is an 8.5, 2nd highest universal is the 7.5 I referenced above...other than a 9.0 Qualified on the census, this book simply does not exist in the census in 9.0. I'm very curious to see what this book closes at..... 0008555-AA-001 Grade: 9.0 Page Quality: Off-White/White Category: Restored - Amateur - Slight Notes: 1/2" edge crease bottom front cover breaks color small substance center back cover Top edge of front & back cover trimmed. bend through bottom right corner spine stress tiny bend-crease through top edge red color touch spots on top spine small tear bottom staple back cover .
  6. There is a slabbed 9.0 Two-Gun Kid # 60 on eBay right now, thought some boardies who may have otherwise not had seen it, may be interested in bidding. Just for the record, this is not my auction nor do I know the seller.I would just like this book to get the attention it deserves. There is only a single bid on it now, 3 days left.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/TWO-GUN-KID-60-FIRST-MATT-HAWK-KIRBY-REBOOT-CBCS-CGC-9-0-SLIGHT-RESTORATION-/291509199623?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43df4d6307 It's a apparent 9.0 with slight resto, the label indicates 2 small dabs of color touch and minor trimming to upper right edge. Paper quality looks very nice and it is also not a PGX slab, another +1. If I had not been buying way too much lately, and I also was not looking at an inordinate amount of books I need to send off to CGC, I'd try my luck at biddng on this piece ... <3
  7. Let's not forget i DIDN'T send you a message.... i made an offer, then you declined with you offer afterwords i made another offer with a message. The way I interpreted via the way you posted it on here as if i messaged you PRIOR to making the offer... which NEVER happened. Elektra101 You ever seen That 70s show??? well think of Ashton Kutcher saying BURN !!! because you just did that to yourself... im glad you blocked me, but i was about to do it to you prior..... Not that Elektra101 behaved in a professional manner...he/she did not...but is it correct that you made a $150 offer on a book that hasn't sold for $150 since 2012, and has a current 12 month average price of $690, and a 90 day average of $700...? And followed it up with a $200 offer...? If that is true, I'm not quite sure what ground you have to stand on, here. It's still BUY IT NOW OR MAKE AND OFFER. it doesn't state anywhere on ebay that the offer has to be a certain amount. while at this point considering the movie is coming out next week, it might climb up in sales with the next few days. i still don't feel i was low balling him. (emphasis added) Just wanted to make sure all the facts were in before rushing to judgment. Here are the sales for the last 6 months: Jun-05-2015 $650 Cert# 1204009033 May-25-2015 $612 Cert# 1203909002 May-24-2015 $717 Cert# 1290478005 May-17-2015 $750 Cert# 0208120010 May-04-2015 $650 Cert# 1301226015 Apr-22-2015 $699 Cert# 1202739004 Apr-17-2015 $799 Cert# 0240986001 Apr-16-2015 $725 Cert# 0208120009 Apr-15-2015 $700 Cert# 1305165020 Apr-09-2015 $700 Cert# 0252230010 Apr-05-2015 $627 Cert# 0247445011 Mar-22-2015 $657 Cert# 1290478003 Mar-22-2015 $710 Cert# 1216468008 Feb-28-2015 $625 Cert# 0232770009 Feb-18-2015 $790 Cert# 1202485012 Feb-03-2015 $820 Cert# 1202485013 Jan-15-2015 $707 Cert# 0243792009 ...but you still don't feel a $150, then $200, offer was "low-balling"? Interesting. It really comes down to respect, doesn't it...? Well laid out points, RMA. I have blocked Elektra101 as well as Donmeca2020 .
  8. Duly noted, added that d-bag to my blocked list. In case you didn't already know.... eBay has a new option,"Report a Buyer", for sellers who come across dishonest/sketchy bidders, like the bad luck you've had with the forementioned pole stroker. So please go ahead and report him, if you have not already.Multiple reports and buyers get suspended from ebay, altogether, not sure how many reports need to be decided against a buyer but with any luck, in the case of extortion tactics....like the guy is trying to use on you, it'll just be 1 report before he's canned and he can't screw with any other sellers, either. eBay and Paypal seem to be getting much less likely to defer to the buyer's side , in these sorts of deals. It used to be like you had to accept any return a buyer sent you, even if it wasn't the same book or a damn piece of newspaper but ebay is finally getting wise to buyer's scams.Probably due to the fact that eBay and Paypal will be separate companies soon, otherwise they'd likely keep on not giving a damn about sellers and continue to solely chase the bottom line. Either way, this is very good news for sellers............. 9. The thing is, which key books on eBay are not shilled now? I can only say for certain that I do not shill my auctions (and I still get above GPA prices on books anyway ) , but looking at the action on a lot of other keys there is shill bidding all over the place whether it is a Silver, Bronze or Copper/Modern key. There is truth to this. However with BA 12, those most recent auctions all ended with what is quite evidently a shill win, thus creating (and maintaining) an artificial price ceiling for the book. Star Wars 1 (1977) is the other big offender of this right now as well, and for similar reasons. With nearly 350 copies of this book in a 9.8 alone it is very prone to being heavily shilled, and is in fact, being heavily shilled. Even the most die hard fan cannot realistically look at those results and call them kosher. My 2 cents. -J. The auctions may be shilled or they may not be shilled. If a book sells consistently for around 2 grand, there is no such thing as artificial price ceiling. This argument is baseless. The book is worth whatever it sells for, to the person who buys it.
  10. Yeah, I knew I was going to regret selling my copy for $1400, back in March. If I had held onto it for another few months
  11. Highest closed just now I know.. its a sig, but still, this book is definitely not dead Raw copies can still be had on the cheap, last month I bought a couple sets of Sunfire & Big Hero 6 # 1-3 on eBay. Got a newsstand and a direct copy of S&BH6 #1, 9.6 and 9.8 candidates.....methinks that this is the book that will be picking up the most steam as the movie hype on the sequel picks up....as I doubt Alpha Flight 17 will be touted as the 1st app. of BH6 with any cusses the second time around, now that CGC labels S & BH 6 as the 1st app of BH6.
  12. he's rumored to be the next batman after jim gordon Did the Ventriloquist get a massive character redesign or is he just going to run waddle around with a Batman puppet on his hand? I think it's a life size batman puppet. Not on the hand, but somehow controlled by ventriloquist. But then again I made up the rumor to begin with, and it wasnt that well thought out Haha, nice.
  13. he's rumored to be the next batman after jim gordon Thanks....that makes sense then.
  14. Detective 583.......I know this book is the 1st app. of the Ventriliquist but why is it actually selling for $75 in raw 9.6?
  15. You may beable to get your return shipping costs refunded, as a "paypal courtesy", if this is the first time you bought a lot and were conned. Paypal covered my return shipping on a lot with a (undisclosed) reprint of a coverless TOS 39 a while back. Just checked out his other listings and here's another thing you could report him for....selling a CGG (old PGX label) as a CGC 5.5 : http://www.ebay.com/itm/L0023-Hawk-and-Dove-1-Graded-5-5-/351250654588?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item51c82ba57c
  16. Open a case with Paypal and go through their return policy for items received in condition not as described in the listing. You'll get your purchase price and original shipping cost refunded. You'll have to eat the cost of shipping back to the seller, unfortunately.
  17. That's not really how it works ... it's during the lead-up period to the first trailer or promo where the prices plateau - just look at Constantine for a recent example. It's all about selling the sizzle, not the steak  I think this series will be more like the Deadpool movie. People have been hearing about the Preacher show for years so when people are sure it's going to happen we should see a large jump compared to the current prices. Just my opinion. Except that the Deadpool movie is going to be everything the fans wanted. Preacher isn't How can you tell that? Besides, Walking Dead has strayed from the comic and people continually gripe and moan about it, but all it does is break ratings records every season. It seems that every time I get ready to post, Chuck has already posted my thoughts. I'm a huge fan of Preacher, it's in my top 10, maybe top 5. I'm optimistic about the show. It's a different medium so I expect changes and adaptations. Besides, I've already read the comic so I don't need to watch the exact same thing in live action, an adaptation that is faithful to the spirit and quality of the original will satisfy me. My sentiments exactly. I have 2 copies of Preacher 1 ATM, one in grading at CGFC and another copy I picked up this past month which I'll be subbing shortly. And I have a Preacher 13 , Absolute vertigo, which I am sure will both get 9.8's.All of that is besides the point because I loved the comic. But commerce is commerce and I'll sell all of my CGC slabbed preachers when I get 'em. I'd say that next to Hate and Eightball, Preacher is one of my 3 favorite comic series, period. I've said this before but it bears repeating: This show will have meat on its bones. It is being produced for AMC....,not censor happy NBC. If it strays from the comic or not.I don't really care. The creators/directors of the show are also huge fans of Ennis and the original comic run. That said, chances are it will be along the lines of a well scripted show like Breaking Bad or Mad Men. The failure of Constantine was that it was streamlined for network TV.It was as bland and as dumbed down as could be.Cute and trite does not work well with the subject matter of Hellblazer. I watched the pilot episode and called it quits.FWIW, I read damn near every issue of the vertigo Hellblazer run and loved the book and the character. To compare AMC's production values and proven record of producing shows that do not cringe from "disturbing, thought provoking material (Breaking Bad, Mad Men) with NBC's Constantine overly "family friendly" production of Contantine is nonsense. Not to say that shows on network TV will automatically suck balls, either.I really like I Zombie.....as fluffy as it is, it's a fun show to watch. It doesn't pretend to be anything that it's not. From my point of view , hearkening back to my points made on Breaking Bad and Mad Men, Preacher will be a show not meant for the dumbed down masses.I strongly think it will be very moody and intelligent with a bit of black comedy thrown in e.g. breaking Bad and Mad Men. In line with my earlier comments regarding "intelligent" TV shows like Breaking Bad and Mad Men, I don't think Preacher will be the time passing fodder that the Walking Dead is, either. I do like the Walking Dead (the show, I've never read the comic) but after all, it can hardly be thought of as having anything more than a well done B movie derived TV show. It's a TV show about zombies, after all. ::End of rant::
  18. So Sean, should I get around to subbing the two 9.9 candidates of Doctor Strange Sorcerer Supreme # 1...cough cough.....ya know, the copies which I got flamed over on the board for about half a year...... or should I wait intil the movie comes out? ...the joke's on me, which kinda goes without saying.....
  19. On the subject of blatant idiocy ....cough cough...some toolbox stacking up 15 copies of a worthless preview book...... Why the hell is Ms. Marvel # 2 (2nd print variant) a book that actually sells at around $150 in raw NM? I know it's a 1st app of Khamaah Khan or whatever her name is but still....a $150 in cold cash for raw copies? Back to books that are actually pretty cool....someone posted a link to Adam Hughes covers of catwoman issues from the early 90's selling for around $10-$15 a pop....here's another good example of that: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Catwoman-50-58-72-NM-Adam-Hughes-Zatanna-Covers-Near-Mint-9-4-/291379976676?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item43d79999e4 Apparently the racier Hughes covers (read as Catwoman's boobs being prominently displayed) are going for $10-$20 a piece(plus shipping) ....apparently they are all solid sellers at $10 a throw. The not so racy Hiughes catwoman covers seem to go for around cover to $3-7 a piece.(plus shipping). I have about 30 NM Hughes Catwoman covers I've bought in bulk over the years, apparently it's time to pop them into Mylite2's and Full Backs and file them into my $5 and $10 boxes...... I feel dirty just for admitting that I will be doing just that....oh well, if low to mid grade silver is slow or even NM+ bronze Power Man's at $5 or $10 at shows, there is always cashing in on adolescent fanboy wanking material .... ,....seriously, I've had about 2 dozen 25 to 35 cent cover priced Luke Cages, all unpressed in 9.4, even a couple in 9.8 in my $10 boxes for over a year, I think I probably sold maybe 6 or 7 of them and meanwhile nonsense like fantastic Four sells at $10 a pop on ebay for a couple weeks......intil books like that go cold at .99 cent sold BIN's. Puns aside, Hughes really is a helluva damn good artist.
  20. OK since I've been getting a load of PMs about it, the 9.8 was mine. I sold it to a boardie who may reveal himself if he chooses to, or not I got $3600 for it clear (check) / no fees, so that's as if it went for $4300 on ebay before ebay & paypal fees, give or take $50. Just waiting for the check to come in the mail and the deal is done Good luck to the next one, hope whoever is waiting for theirs to come back gets a 9.8 and does a happy dance like I did (thumbs u If you can provide a record of the sale, detailing that the buyer paid you in full for the boo and he has received the book, you should get in touch with the GPA guy on here and report the sale to him. I am sure that Costas, Chip and Jerome whenever he gets his copy back from CGC, that is) would all appreciate that (thumbs u
  21. Same here. I bid and won a few every now and then when the slabs were on ebay. Even then it appeared that CGC's grading was rather loose on many books. Now that they have moved to raw stuff I rarely find anything that looks accurately graded. I am sure that the reason why dealers like Sparkle City Comics grade so loosely is because they are well known for buying pedigree collections, they are Overstreet advisors and so on.....so "green" collectors associate dealers like Sparkle City as being authorities in the field . Consequently, Sparkle City know they can get away with ridiculously liberal grading standards. There are a couple other big name dealers / Overstreet advisors who pull the same sort of tricks, with selling overgraded raw comics on eBay......green collectors will pay higher prices from these sorts of dealers because green collectors are duped into paying a premium for the dealer's status in the hobby and being able to say" I bought this from Sparkle City Comics" This Avengers 196 looks like an 8.0 to an 8.5, just by eyeballing the pics. 2 transverse spine tics Oxidation staining on BC Wear on BC along upper left edge
  22. I would be grading it myself if I cracked it out. If I see there's no restoration or "foul play" and confirm the grade, why would I need to disclose that? I'm fine with removing the PGX stigma and taking responsibility for the grading myself since I do that with everything else I sell anyway. Well, it all depends on what you think the book would grade out as , if it was CGC'd. If I had a PGX graded copy, and it looks it could benefit from a press (NCBR's and so on) and could possibly fetch a 9.6 or 9.8 with a press, I'd crack it out and proceed accordingly. Grege Reece's copy sold for $1850, the other day, in auction. However, there were 3 copies listed all in the same week so that didn't help Greg out much.
  23. I just had the chance to buy a MGN 4 off eBay...a solid NM...possibly a 9.6....for $80 BIN....and passed on it.The seller had a few hundred positive feedbacks and his grading was legit, no scan of the back cover so I pussed out.Dumb arse move on my part. Decided to pull the trigger,15 minutes ago and.....it had already sold for a measly $80. ....oh well, snooze ya lose. I still have 2 high grade copies to submit tomorrow at the AC Con, if I can make it there.
  24. Thanks for the lowdown, Chip. I'd be inclined to think the print run would have been around 5000 (50 comics per WB store) but that is just speculation based on what I have heard about the print run of other Superman Adventure books i.e. # 5 (1st Livewire, had a print run of 5000). You have heard incorrectly. The Diamond orders for Superman Adventures #5 were 26,287. That's just the Direct Market. The newsstand, while in decline, was not insubstantial at this point. I would be interested to know why you thought the print run for a 1997 Superman book was only 5,000, and/or who you heard this from. Remember: Direct market approximate order numbers from about Sept 1996 are available for every month since then at John Jackson Miller's wonderful site: www.comichron.com First, thanks for the info on Sups Adv 5. Buuut, Chip did not say he thought the print run was 5000 on the Sups Adv 1 WB Preview edition, he guesstimated it to be around 10,000. Go back and read the last few posts between Chip and myself, in this thread for the breakdown on how he came up with that figure. Also, note that this is the Warner Bros. PREVIEW edition of Superman Adventures # 1 we're discussing, not the regular edition.
