  1. The characters tell the time period. Note how small the Flash is. Who is the girl at bottom? Judy from “A Date with Judy”? Yeah, Danny told me this was given out only to staffers, executives and special people.
  2. They both look like fairly acceptable copies to me for the right price. But, the bottom right corner of the 48 sends up a red flag to me. Here is the splash page of my latest return. Totally not mentioned or photographed. I didn’t even want to touch it...
  3. Feldstein wrote it. Frazetta drew it with no assist.
  4. That suks glad it worked out for you. It has happened quite a bit to me in the past year or so on eBay. I am VERY gun shy bidding with sellers that provide one or two usually not real helpful photos, no description and the “not a professional grader” line. I mean how many of us are “professional graders”? Minimal information and “no returns” just turn me off. I recently got a bad interior mold book as well. Back it went. I’m not a picky high grade guy in general but damn sellers are getting lazy and refuse to stand by their merchandise. Sadly, this has now even migrated to more well known national dealers. Sure you get your money back but you have to wrap it up and take it to the post office. I buy and sell very little there anymore..,
  5. Great grab Raze. The Frazetta story in that one is really well done. To bad he didn’t do more solo work for them...
  6. I too finished a cool small run yesterday. A great feeling and then as always, on to something else. Hey, it’s what we do...
  7. Nice run Steve. Congrats. I actually have only one of those. With the prices Cole books are bringing these days, this is likely to remain the case.
  8. A few of my favorite DC covers that just grabbed me first time I saw them...
  9. Mitch's story and mine are similar. As a kid I mostly bought DC War and the Batman titles. Then one day, I saw Amazing Spiderman #3 on the stands. Bought it, took it home and it changed comics as I knew them. I just kept buying it as well as FF4, Hulk and X-Men. Never started out to be a "collector" but would trade with other neighborhood kids for earlier issues I didn't have until I got them all. What got me truly collecting was MAD. My grandpa bought me #72 and I was hooked. I really went after the back issues with a passion. I had #1-71 to find. Wasn't as easy back then. Garage sales, friends, neighbors, used book stores and swap meets. What really changed is when I bought #9 at Cherokee books for $3. I had never paid more than cover price (or less) for any of them. I was hooked and became a real "collector" at that point. Everything else rolled in after that... I remember those EC paperbacks too Mitch. As well as Inside MAD with all the little pictures of the early issues on the cover.
  10. Near as I can tell he started around 1958 or so. Looking at the picture of the characters will give you a good idea. I used to have a couple plastic rack hangers with him on them from late '50's-early '60's but can't find them right now. I do have this cool DC promo glass that I got from famous Superman collector Danny Fuchs many years ago. He said it was an internal DC promo piece given to artists and executives.
  11. I wouldn’t go Epson. I’ve had two that were decent but crapped on me within a couple years. I’d go with the HP 8300. I’ve had it for over 5 years works great and can be had used pretty cheap.
  12. I have found that in LA the best area for picking garage sales in South Central or Mid City. Most folks are a little intimidated to go there and you have very little competition. Lots of old houses from the 1920’s-1960’s. Got a Latin friend who lives there and picks up a lot of great stuff for me there. So that would probably “Old Brown and Black Money”
  13. Fun little haul! Man, I rarely see vintage comics at garage sales any more. Gotta go to the older areas of town I guess.
  14. I doubt that would ever happen. Terry isn't much about talking about the "old daze" or maybe he doesn't remember. He has always been a real quiet guy. I don't get the feeling he cares much about the past. Nor does David T Alexander. But he's got stories when he opens up. Most people don't realize the impact those two along with Carl Macek of the American Comic Book Co. made on fandom. They were brilliant marketeers. They coined the phrase "Good Girl Art" and introduced the concept of bondage covers, decapitation, violence as well as "esoteric" comics to market their wares. I was pretty friendly with them in the day. I would go to the store and go in the back room. There were literally piles and boxes full of SA and GA books all over the place. People were walking in the door daily selling them nice stuff. I remember seeing a pile of maybe 50 Timelys just sitting in a stack un-bagged that had just walked in and they hadn't had time to process. They were the "rock stars" of comic dealing in LA. Great parties with actual attractive women at them. Terry is all over the small shows and flea markets now days. I see him a lot. He is a very unique guy. As are many old timers in this business. I guess it is what makes this such a colorful hobby. Redbeard is also another guy that has stories. He was there at the dawn of the SF and Church collections and hung with Terry and David a lot. I got him to come on the boards finally and he was on here for a while but has slipped back.
  15. Yeah, it sure does. I just around to looking at it. It has interior art by Finlay, Schomburg and Jack Binder as well as an ad for the "Science Fiction League" club. Now I got to find the swag you got when you joined. This one is a winner all the way around!
  16. How ‘bout a little tree spanking? And a “Paul” copy to boot.
  17. Love this cover. A beautiful copy with a perfect spine from 1939.
  18. Here’s what I picked up. Everything, came from the boxes. I always ask every one if they have any “old stuff” even though it isn’t displayed. Lots of stuff comes from under tables, boxes and out of sight. All this stuff was really cheap. Always happy to find unusual stuff for a bargain...
  19. Terry Stroud shows up late, covers up his booth, and disappears to lord only knows where?
  20. This guy was a joke. Most of his stuff was low grade stuff. Very few GA. He was selling them “for half marked guide” prices. My momma didn’t raise no fool. He just priced them at double guide and was asking half off that. I made him a fair offer on these two but he turned me down with a sneer. I left ‘em...
