  1. Local guy Brad Sloan always has the best selection of vintage “F-VF” books. Practically all the SA/BA keys and always a decent amount of GA for me.
  2. About every two months we have a small little local LA comic con. Pretty small but a few decent dealers with some vintage stuff. What is also fun for me is there a few guys with cool, non comic book stuff. Pulps, BLB’s, pinbacks, toys and stuff. Got this killer Beatnik Halloween mask from probably the late 1950’s for $5.!!!
  3. Like a little mini local comic con coming up Daddio!
  4. Thanks! One of the nicest ones I’ve ever had and I’ve had a few. The builder painted it with matte paint as opposed to the usual glossy enamel. Makes it look so “desert like”. The shading on the wrappings is especially well done. Hard to see in this quick phone photo. I remarked to the lady who owned the store “too bad it was the only one”. She remarked that it just came in that morning and somebody just bought the “fish guy”. Damn, missed a nice Creature of the Black Lagoon by that much. Can’t for the life of me know why the person before me didn’t just buy them both. It was soooo cheap... Glad to get this one for my shelf anyway!
  5. Thanks Ritchie. Too much hanging around with Halgua, Redbeard and John Knight ruined a lot of my memory cells back in the day.
  6. I can help out a little. I recognize faces but the passage of time has erased some names sadly. Perhaps, some boardies with better memories can fill in the rest. Top photo: 2nd from the left, a legend in his own time and a rather dashing guy even now, Richard (Mr Bedrock) Evans. Don’t remember the other guys. 2nd photo: The guy 3rd from the left is my old buddy Gary Coddington. The two guys to his left are old dealers I believe but can’t remember. Don’t know the kid. 3rd photo: Easy, Ritchie Halgua on the left and Redbeard on the right. Great guys. Still keep in contact with him and John Knight (not pictured). We had a lot of good times and still do when we get together. Look at that piece of art Redbeard is holding. One of my favorite Strange Adventures covers. Man, Ritchie had vision and Great art! 4th photo: The guy on the left has been outed. Guy on the right, not sure. Hopefully, some of these guys will see this and fill in the blanks.
  7. Back in those days, I couldn't have afforded them even at the prices he was asking...
  8. As was said, if these were not witnessed by CGC they will not come back as authentic signatures. They are not rare or high end books. I wouldn't waste your money. Just keep them in Mylar and enjoy them...
  9. Wow, just awsome photo! (yes I’m an EC guy). I can’t even imagine walking into that store...
  10. Probably my favorite Superman cover. Here is mine. I got it on ebay many years ago. It has very tiny bug holes that go all the way through it. It came from Hawaii from a lady who found a small pile of WWII era comics in an old service man's trunk. I wonder why more old comics don't come out of there considering how many US servicemen were stationed there in the war. Here is also a picture of a WWII era PX store on Ohau where my copy might have come from...
  11. Ha, ha, ha... Yes it is! My grandmother bought it for me when I was about 12. She was an antique hunter and I was the only grandchild who would go with her on her "jaunts". She paid a dollar for it. A lot of money for a comic in those days. We were at a swap meet and there it was all by it's self just laying on the ground. I had never seen a comic that old. I had no idea of the significance of it until many years later. A wonderful lady who saw my passion for comics and reading. She spoiled me a bit and rarely said no. I guess she is where I got the collecting bug. Still miss her.
  12. Some old photos of current boardies from the magazine. I doubt any would mind because they were published in CBM anyway. These were all SDCC shots from an article on the 1997 SDCC. Even though I was at all these shows, it was always fun to see dealer shots and reviews on the con. A few of them have sadly passed on to the great comic con in the sky...
  13. Jon made a purchase from me recently. First rate boardie and buyer. Paid quickly with friendly and quick communication. Great follow up as well. Everything you want when selling here. Thanks Jon!
  14. Antique store find today... Original 1963 Aurora Mummy Nicely done!
  15. You’re killing me here Steve. I doubt many know how hard it is to find the early ones. I had ‘em all once but sold off most of them. A feat I just don’t need to repeat.
  16. True. Very few paper mills make newsprint any more. What they do make goes to newspapers. Even the “throw away” circulars aren’t printed on newsprint any more. The paper industry is hurting bad now.
  17. You’re talking to Pablo... He just won’t be able to help himself...
