This was the "inner sanctum" where you went to pay and the good stuff was. Those EC's were $3-$5. each. A princely sum to my 12 year old pocket. But for those of us who slummed it, the hallway just outside was lined with book cases full of boxes with comics from 50 cents to a buck each. I had to be content to buy Weird Mysteries, Mister Mystery, Dark Mysteries and others for that price most of the time... I got a Reform School Girl and Showcase #4 in those boxes as well. At the time, my big passion was MAD. I will never forget seeing this very book in a cleaners bag thumb tacked to the wall on the staircase going upstairs. It was 3 bucks! I had never seen an EC MAD. I remember my dad yelling at me for paying that much for a "funny book" when I got home.

A photo of Leonard Brown (partner of Malcom's at Collector's Book Store) with a new "buy". Can you even imagine what was in those wrapped up packages? Probably just another day in the comic shop business... They even had a lot of great pulps that walked in to the store. Leonard was Yellow Kid's (board member) best friend. Actually the two of them started this store. Leonard was the comic guy and Malcom was more the movie poster guy. It was Hollywood after all.

Malcolm Willits at Collector’s book store also early ‘60’s. Hollywood CA. He recently passed away. Collector’s was the “expensive” store. Us kids preferred Cherokee or even better Bond Street Books around the corner. A lot more friendly and cheaper. Was a magical time and place for comic book collectors!

I don’t pay a lot of attention to “movie books”. It’s probably time to go out to the garage and dig through some boxes... -
Where are the Mad Magazine collectors?
Robot Man replied to Doohickamabob's topic in Comic Magazines
Only reason I still read MAD is that the subscription rates are so low. -
I would love to go and pick up some of your horror books Ed. But, I just can’t see paying that lady’s CRAZY admission price to do so. Plus $15 to just park my car. A real pity, this used to be a decent show and about a 15 minute drive from my house...

Funny, it doesn’t seem that long ago when that was a dollar book and all over the place... -
Very remote and weird place. There were 3 of us, 4 surfers from Austrailia and a couple of locals. Google it. I also went to Egypt to see the Sphinx and the pyrimids. Also bucket list. Was there as a 22 year old hippie kid with two friends. Just mind blowing. I guess I've got a thing for big stone dudes...

I have always had a fascination with Easter Island ever since I saw it in a book as a kid. So much so, that I convinced a couple of my buddies to go on a surfing trip there about 15 years ago. Very remote and primitive place. The people that live there were very friendly and took good care of us. Nothing like floating on a surfboard between sets and seeing these giant statues all over the shore. They are all over the island and are pretty much explained. A big one crossed off my bucket list! I decided, I'd look for comics with Easter Island covers. There aren't many... I finally picked up this Strange Adventures today, locally. Oldest one I know of. Was happy to get it. Here are the ones I have. Sorry they aren't mostly GA but hey, it's my thread... Anybody know of any other ones I can add to the list?

Jim is always a first class buyer and boardie. Smooth, flawless transaction. Always a pleasure my friend!

Books don’t always continue to go up every time they come up for sale. Even big keys like this. We are currently in a bit of a state of flux economy wise. Talk of a recession might have folks holding back a little. Maybe the timing is bad or the deep pocket guys have nice enough copies. Does seem weird though. Hopefully, the consigner will come out OK. It will sell for what it is worth on the day it closes...

Real nice run! The early issues before say #20 rarely turn up any more. Like Looney Tunes, tough and great covers. Good luck with the first 5!

Manhunt #4 is it a Leonard Brandt Cole?
Robot Man replied to bounty_coder's topic in Golden Age Comic Books
I love this cover. I'm a real sucker of surealistic art. But, I have to fall into the camp of probably not being Cole. It is far to minimalistic for him and the colors just aren't what he would have done.
