That's what I was thinking. Count the amount of books and multiply it by 1K each.
What an attic find though. Can you imagine being at that estate sale? Kinda makes you wonder if there were any keys in there that were taken out
Oh, and something tells me the seller might be a woman.

Not only is this my favorite APC cover, it is probably in my favorite 5-10 Baker covers. Just a beautiful, braless, Baker babe! The color on this one is very important to me and you've got it hit Rick!

Aww - thanks Bill.
I didn't mention anything about "back in the day" because others had. The Buyer's Guide/Comic Buyer's Guide were indeed the good old days and I miss them much. Every issue was like one giant comic book flea market along with some interesting articles. I used to get my copy of the TBG/CBG sent via UPS to me because 2nd class mail was mixed on when it would arrive. You wanted to be among the first to get your copy before all the good deals were gone.Yeah, I lived on the West Coast. By the time I got it, everything I wanted was usually gone. The way I scored was to ask if the seller had any other similar books. Often, I was able to buy books that had yet to be offered. The articles and fandom news were often stellar.
I remember having a few seller ads. I would get calls from the east coast at 3:00 or 4:00 in the morning. Nothing like waking up my wife by some drooling fanboy jonesing for a book. I eventually, stated that I would not accept orders before a certain date and time. This meant that everybody got an even chance and my wife wasn't woken up. If I got a call before then, I would hang up on them. I'm sure I pissed off some but most appreciated me giving them a fair chance.

Wow, 8 grand for a copy missing cover, two wraps and the centerfold. Not much left to play with. If it had the wraps or centerfold it would be usuable for parts. In this shape, its one of those books people "page out" and have slabbed. And a page like this one with not even one page featuring Superman, who would even want it? I can see the Action #1 page that Comicdonna had with Superman throwing the car. That is iconic. But without the Man of Steel, it looks like just an average boring GA early DC page.

Baker books (especially romance) seem ON FIRE lately. There have been several sale threads in the past week or so offering Baker books at what I consider pretty nose bleed prices. But, what do I know, they have been selling. Don't get me wrong, I have loved Baker art for years but they are pretty un-readable "love books" for gosh sakes. As much as I love his art, I'm pretty much getting squeezed out of them now.

A long way from being one of the more desirable Bakers, but a high-grade and a ped copy, so I'll take it.
I actually like this cover. Great night battle scene. Have never seen a copy. I had no idea the Baker Canteen Kate stories went into the Charlton run.

I've never seen one of the Timely annuals in person. Are they as thick as a pulp? Do they have spines like pulps?
Yes and yes

Oh, I misread your post. But for the reasons I stated above, I consider Tec #27 and Batman #1 to be classic covers. But I definitely get where you're coming from.
I would give Action 1 classic status though!

If the cover of Cap #1 doesn't warrant the "classic" label, I don't know what book does.
Oh, I would say so on that one. Not so much on Tec27 or Bat 1 though.

Between Rick, you and now Innaflash all posting such off the hook books one might think the end of the world is coming...

Wow, some awesome books here! With this sale, Adam Strange and Ricksneatstuff all posting just draw dropping books you would think Jon Berk was having another auction.
-
I wouldn't call either cover "classic". "Iconic" maybe on both. The first thing you see when you open a Bat#1 is "The legend of the Batman and how he came to be". Really starts the book and the series right.

Was going through the horror boxes and doing some shuffling. I re-discovered this book. Forgot about it I guess. I remember getting it signed by Mr. Wood at one of the old San Diego Convention Center cons just before he passed away. I got this, Earthman on Venus and MAD #1 signed. He didn't even remember doing the book and was very surprised to see it. No doubt, because sadly, he was nursing a bad hangover. He didn't seem to be happy to be there at all. Very sad end for one of the most talented artists in the Golden Age. Nonetheless, I was honored to spend a few moments with him. RIP Wally!

Cap #1, to me, is one of the most desirable GA books to own coverless. Like Action #1, the splash page kicks off the origin and first appearance of the character. Joe Simon's Captain America on the splash page (correct me if I'm mistaken) predates Kirby's classic cover. Like Action #1, of course you'd prefer to have the cover, but the book is chock full of content which enhances the desirability.
I would agree but I have to throw Batman #1 in there. What a book. Origin of the Batman, First Joker and first Catwoman. Just packed with great material. If I mention to my non collecting friends that I have a coverless copy, their first question is "What is it worth? Can't be much without a cover" When I tell them, they can't believe it. They have no idea what Action #1 or Detective #27 are until I tell them but they all know what a Superman or Batman #1 are. Has always been one of the biggest "holy grail" books.

Love that one Ray. The car, the poses and the flirty innocense just make it for me.
