    Hello everybody, first post.

I'm wondering if anyone knows what the pence print run of Captain Marvel was in the UK? I know it was popular enough to spawn Marvelman and then Miracleman, I'm thinking about submitting a recently acquired pence copy of Captain Marvel that has a cover colored differently then the American version to cgc,  its in rough shape and I don't know if I should hold off for a better copy because I have no idea what the rarity is, if anyone could lay some comic book wisdom on me it would be appreciated, thanks

Pray tell, what issue is it? :x

I assume it's the Captain Marvel Adventures run as opposed to Captain Marvel Jr? Both runs ended at #24, if I'm not mistaken (if that's what you were inquiring?) ~

    Thanks, @Yorick :3

Ah, the print run? No clue ~ Well given that the early MM/YM run - suggestively, mind you, according to @EwanUK - was around 5,000 per issue ~ You don't see a lot of the CMA/CMJ comics around in relation to their American counterparts ~

  2. With the fact CGC will be grading manga shortly, seems an interesting one to keep in mind ...

    Big Gangan #6 2022:

    • 1st ppearance of The Mandalorian (Din Djarin), Dan G’vash, Tajin Crosser and The Elder in manga/comics. 1st cameo appearance of Grogu.
    • Kamome Shirahama story and art.
    • Shirahama cover.

I thought it would've been interesting to research why the texture of the surface of the certificates can look so different in photos & scans, and had hoped for a reaction or two, esp. from experts who've handled multiple copies over the years.

The #164 certificate looks badly faded, but that could be due to lighting conditions (although I guess it can't be ruled out that saturation was reduced in an effort to hide discoloration).

Yeah, I noticed such a thing when you brought the subject to attention with the difference in surface ~

Also, not sure whether this'll effect the books that are encapsulated (with Moore's signature):

PS: And, sorry, not color corrected either. Thoughts, anyone?

PPS: Wow, this topic is even deader than I thought. No intellectual curiosity whatsoever. Well, never mind ...

Well another one has been listed on eBay: 164/400:

But, alas, there isn't any curiosity as of late, though it'll change at some point - as, for the most part, the Miracleman/Marvelman is still rather underrated ~

For me it is really hard to tell since the entire book was printed on newsprint.

From what I have seen online the jagged outer edge and perforation marks all seem to be normal.

What I do see is blunted/rounded corners, a severe crunch at the lower left corner on the front cover and lower right of the rear cover, the spine appears to be wrinkled/creased (hard to tell), writing on rear cover.

Without having this book in front of me I can only ballpark and even that is a guess... VG/FN 5.0 to FN 6.0

Thanks, I realise that 2000 AD comics are difficult to judge at times :x

  6. Actually, in point of fact, the 1st appearance of Sonic and Doctor Robotnik was the manga contained in Mega Drive Fan of 1991 ~

The gaming magazine - which had the manga included within - had a cover date of July 1991, however, in Japan the release date is usually a month prior to the cover date; ergo, the manga predates both the North American and Japanese release dates of the Sonic the Hedgehog video game, and naturally also the Sonic the Hedgehog #1 from Fall 1991, too (outside of Rad Mobile and Puzzle Construction) ~

  7. This was first announced in 2015, so what an intriguing development, especially with the success of Netflix's One Piece :x

I've always maintained the film - presuming it's the first of a trilogy - should focus on the Land of the Waves, the Chunin Exams and then ending with the Third Hokage's confrontation of Orochimaru ~

Also felt this news even more intriguing since CGC is currently looking for a Manga expert for grading Manga *fingers crossed on Japanese manga* lol

Naruto, one of the most popular mangas of all time, is headed to the big screen.

Destin Daniel Cretton, who co-wrote and directed the Marvel Studios movie Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, has been tapped to pen and helm a live-action adaptation of the title for Lionsgate.

Cretton will also produce alongside Jeyun Munford through his company, Hisako. The duo join Avi Arad, Ari Arad and Emmy Yu of Arad Productions, who are behind the studio’s upcoming video game adaptation Borderlands, and Jeremy Latcham (Dungeons & Dragons).

Created by Masashi Kishimoto, Naruto was a coming-of-age story focused on a young and enthusiastic ninja named Naruto Uzumaki who wants to grow up to be the leader of his ninja village but also happens to have the spirit of a dragon inside him. The story was serialized in Japan’s popular Weekly Shonen Jump from 1999 to 2014, tracking the character’s coming-of-age, friendships, and many super-powered ninja battles.

In that time, it became one or the world’s most popular intellectual properties, with over 250 million copies of the collected volumes sold in more than 60 countries and territories. It also launched several animated series that ran for years on Cartoon Network, Disney XD, Adult Swim and other networks. It has been adapted into video game form and continues to be a merchandising juggernaut. Naruto has essentially been building hard-core fans around the world for 25 years.

Cretton has Kishimoto’s blessing, something bestowed upon him after a visit to Tokyo. “When I heard of Destin’s attachment, it happened to be right after watching a blockbuster action film of his, and I thought he would be the perfect director for Naruto,” said Kishimoto in a statement. “After enjoying his other films and understanding that his forte is in creating solid dramas about people, I became convinced that there is no other director for Naturo. In actually meeting Destin, I also found him to be an open-minded director who was willing to embrace my input, and felt strongly that we would be able to cooperate together in the production process.”

Having acquired a copy a long time ago, I always wondered why it hadn't got more steam, but then again, I didn't really know too much about the character. Vaguely hear of it every once in awhile though!

Aw, yeah, Amethyst of Gemworld :x

She was recently apart of Justice League Dark, but I have a feeling she'll be included, at some point, by James Gunn in his films - given what he did ever so recently - so that may allow her to gain traction of sorts ~

  9. Well the Japanese versions are the first editions; so I never got the appeal of collecting the English reprints ~

Dragon Ball #1 will never be as valuable as Shonen Jump #51 (1984) due to the fact it's rarer due to the print run and the fact a lot of Japanese manga is thrown away and not stored as American comics due to their size (and has a lot of cultural significance) -- a NM copy went for a little over $5k recently (but beware of the fake versions); we'll see much of a surge with Manga as CGC is currently looking for a manga expert ~ Here's my copy of Naruto's first appearance, for the sake of the thread:

Those pages look to be very white for a seventy (?) year old book. Rather too white imho. Could they be some of the "facsimiles" of 1950s comics that were produced in the !980s?
(Being over forty years old if kept in the wrong conditions could cause the rusty staples).

1962 so 62 years young. I think they are original and genuine. I will know for sure when mine arrives 😊

I thought the only 1980s facsimiles were Marvelman family stuff?

Just two of my Whitworth facsimiles' if that'll help ~ I originally believed my YM #370 was a facsimile, though proved to be an original via Ewan and 30thCC due to the staple rust:

P.S. Where, Redshade, where did you see that Whitworth catalogue?
