  1. Bought this book back in 84/85 for $20.00 at the first comic shop I had ever found and I was in heaven. I also got my Avengers 4 at the same comic shop for $15.00.
  2. My complete run of vol 1 #'s 1-18 consists mostly of well loved reading copies with a couple of 4.5 - 5.0 books scattered in the run, all raw.
  3. IMO without the stain and tear the book would be a FN/VF 7.0 however... Due to the stain, small tear on an interior page and minor stress lines on the spine this book in its whole present condition would be a FN 6.0. 6.0 FINE (FN): Back to TopAn above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Some accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases. Inks show a significant reduction in reflectivity. Blunted corners are more common, as is minor staining, soiling, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor spine roll is allowed. There can also be a 1/4" spine split or severe color break. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and a few slight stress lines may be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown and fairly supple with no signs of brittleness. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. Centerfold may be loose
  4. Just have to say... I am not a Golden Age Collector nor CGC guy but those are some really nice books!!!
  5. The most I ever spent for a comic, all 10 - 15 years ago. $130.00 $120.00 $100.00 $90.00
  6. I have used tape numerous times on early books that are a .5 Poor or 1.0 Fair (All Raw) to keep them from falling apart even more when handled. Tape is not going to affect a book in this grade and I personally have no issue with it.
  7. IMO a 0.5 or 1.0 is always better than not owning one at all.
  8. A "Well Loved Book", Most of my early books are "Well Loved". 1.5 FAIR/GOOD (FR/GD): Up to 1/10 of the back cover may be missing. 1.0 FAIR (FR): Shows heavy wear. Some collectors consider this the lowest collectible grade because comic books in lesser condition are usually incomplete and/or brittle. Cover may be detached, and inks have lost all reflectivity. Creases, tears and/or folds are prevalent. Corners are commonly rounded or absent. Soiling and staining is present. Books in this condition generally have all pages and most of the covers, although there may be up to 1/4 of the front cover missing or no back cover, but not both. Tape and other forms of amateur repair are more common. Spine roll is more common; spine split can extend up to 2/3 the length of the book. Staples may be missing or show rust and discoloration. An accumulation of staple tears and stress lines may be present, as well as rust migration. Paper is brown and may show brittleness around the edges but not in the central portion of the pages. Acidic odor may be present. Accumulation of interior tears. Chunks may be missing. The centerfold may be missing if readability is generally preserved. Coupons may be cut.
  9. How about a full pic of the front cover? IMO the rear cover shows the book to be in a FR 1.0 - FR 1.5, if the front cover shows the book to be in the same condition you should receive a Blue Label grade reflecting that.
  10. They never even crossed my mind as a "Comic Book", I only thought of the entire package as an Action Figure.
  11. I consider the first two issues of Marvel Tales and the first four issues of Marvel Collector Items Classics an integral part of my Silver Age collection. To complete my runs I collected Marvel Milestone Editions for the books I cannot afford to buy... ASM 129, Avengers 1, F.F 1, Hulk 1, TOS 39, X-Men 1. I also have Marvel Tales 137/138 to complete my run of ASM.
  12. When I was 10 nobody knew what a 9.8 was or even cared what a 9.8 was, comic books were entertainment for reading and enjoyment.
  13. Sad Sack Armed Forces Complimentary #12. Nobody can even verify that this book ever existed, although it is listed on certain sites nobody to this point has even been able to produce/locate a picture of the cover. If you look at this link showing the covers of all 40 (39) Sad Sad Complimentary issues they skipped #12. https://comicvine.gamespot.com/sad-sack-comics/4050-33904/
  14. Congrats on completing the run, Completed runs are the Best!!! There is the Great Feeling of Accomplishment when you finally get all of the books you have been relentlessly searching for.
  15. Intrigued, is there a fable, folklore or legend associated with this Greggy you speak of??? Do tell...
  16. OK, Please show a little tolerance for the old guy as this was probably answered somewhere else at some other time in the past, however... I seem to be having a senior moment... Who or what is a Greggy???
  17. I know this is the Bronze Age section but the question was asked so I will answer. Yes, I absolutely collect Sad Sack comics although mostly the .10 cent issues and have completed all of the runs... Sad Sack 1-125 Sad Sack And The Sarge 1-28 Sad Sacks Funny Friends 1-36 Sad Sack Laugh Special 1-10 Sad Sack Complimentary 1-40 (less #12 which it seems never existed) Plus issues such as... Harvey Hits (23 issues featuring Sad Sack), Sad Sack Goes Home (1951), Sad Sack 3D W/Glasses (1954), Tastee Freeze #4 (1955) and all of the # 1 issues of all other titles + the last 3 issues of Sad Sack Comics in a collector pack. On a Bronze Age note of titles that I feel were not popular... I have collected and enjoyed Rom Spaceknight since it first came out in 1979, my complete run was purchased new from the newsstand or comic shop monthly as they came out.
  18. I was a Marvel fan, I only read DC if my friends had them. As a kid in the 60's I was able to buy comics every week/month. I received .25 cents allowance each week and could earn another .25 cents or so doing additional chores if the folks said OK to that. I would ride my bike to the local pharmacy or 7-11 each week and buy what I wanted with my allowance... Comics were .12 cents, baseball cards were .5 cents, slurpee's were .10 cents and of course if I was out with Mom and saw a new comic and had no money I would ask Mom...Pleeeeeease... X-Men #8 stands out in my mind.
  19. I have not bought a book in two years. I only need early JIM (first 30 issues) and ST (first 40 issues) and being on a strict budget even low grade copies are out of my price range, very seldom do low grade (or any) copies come up for auction and the "Buy It Now" listings are "stupidly high". Even the three westerns I need to complete the 10 cent runs (Kid Colt 12 and 24 and Rawhide Kid 15) are priced too high for my taste. Spending $40, $50 or higher for a low grade book is no longer on my priority list, if I find one great, if not that is fine also.
  20. IMO this book is a FN- 5.5. Overall slightly better than a VG/FN 5.0 but the creases keep it from being a FN 6.0. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present. 5.5 FINE- (FN-): Fits the criteria for Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount 6.0 FINE (FN): An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with no significant creasing or other serious defects. Centerfold may be loose.
  21. We need to see the entire cover to help determine an overall grade and how much the creases/tears affect the grade.
  22. Any particular figures of hero's/villains that really interest you or you really like?
