  1. When I started buying comics myself in 1965 (9/10 years old) I rode my bike to the local pharmacy and then right across the street to the 7-11. I knew when the new books arrived and with my .25 cent allowance (and maybe another .25 cents for additional chores) it would take me all month to get all the issues I wanted. I could have purchased whatever I wanted and chances are nobody would have batted an eye, they probably would just think, " there's a kid wasting his money on comic books" and since I frequented both of those places on a weekly/bi-weekly buying comics and baseball cards they probably would not have given it a second thought. Think about it, I was allowed to walk into any store and buy cigarettes at age 10 without any questions so why would you question buying multiple copies of comic books? And if they did the answer would be "I am buying for me and my friends".
  2. Unfortunately I cannot answer your questions on pressing and value but since no one has replied I will give you my opinion on grade. With the minor stress lines, minor corner blunting and slight color breaks on the edges I am hesitant to overgrade and call this VF 8.0. If the book were mine and I was assigning a grade for cataloging purposes I would grade this book at a FN/VF 7.0., possibly a VF- 7.5. 8.0 VERY FINE (VF): Back to TopAn excellent copy with outstanding eye appeal. A limited accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Cover is relatively flat with minimal surface wear beginning to show, possibly including some minute wear at corners. Inks are generally bright with moderate to high reflectivity. An unnoticeable 1/4" crease is acceptable if color is not broken. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. Spine is almost completely flat with a possible minor color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Very slight staple tears and a few almost insignificant stress lines may be present. Paper is cream to tan and supple. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present. 7.5 VERY FINE- (VF-): Back to Top Fits the criteria for Very Fine but with an additional defect or small accumulation of defects that detracts from the book's appearance by a perceptible amount. 7.0 FINE/VERY FINE (FN/VF): Back to Top An above-average copy that shows minor wear but is still relatively flat and clean with outstanding eye appeal. A small accumulation of minor bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor cover wear beginning to show, possibly including minor creases. Corners may be blunted. Inks are generally bright with a moderate reduction in reflectivity. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. Minor foxing. The slightest spine roll may be present, as well as a possible moderate color break. Staples may show some discoloration. Slight staple tears and a small accumulation of light stress lines may be present. Slight rust migration. Paper is cream to tan. Centerfold is mostly secure. Minor interior tears at the margin may be present
  3. IMO that book grades at a VG/FN 5.0. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): An above-average but well used comic book. An accumulation of bindery/printing defects is allowed. Minor to moderate cover wear apparent, with minor to moderate creases and/or dimples. Inks have moderate to low reflectivity. Blunted corners are increasingly common, as is minor to moderate staining, discoloration, and/or foxing. Stamped or inked arrival dates may be present. A minor to moderate spine roll is allowed. A spine split of up to 1/2" may be present. Staples may show minor discoloration. Minor staple tears and minor stress lines may also be present, as well as minor rust migration. Paper is tan to brown with no signs of brittleness. Centerfold may be loose. Minor interior tears may also be present.
  4. Since I am a completest, why no go for the entire run? (Unfortunately I will never own a #1, use a Marvel Masterworks Reprint to complete the run.) My favorites are... 8 - First X-Men book I ever bought back in early 65. 9 - Avengers Crossover, "Nuff Said". 11 - Cover pulled me in, story kept me there, Love Me Some "early" Cosmic Enitites. 35 - Spider-Man, what can I say, As a kid I LOVED crossovers in the early Silver Age.
  5. I agree, just looking at the pics before reading the above reply VG/FN 5.0 is what popped into my mind. 5.0 VERY GOOD/FINE (VG/FN): Back to Top An above-average but well used comic book. I have no idea what the cost is to have a book graded but the average eBay selling price for this book in VG/FN 5.0 based on recent sales of books in that range (VG+ 4.5 $72.00 and a FN- 5.5 $112.00) is about $90.00 +/-.
  6. That's what I said when I heard about her husband passing, I need to go console the grieving widow.
  7. As stated above pics would be very helpful to determine an approximate grade. Also depends on what you plan to do with the books, sell, display, just keep in your collection, read again??? Just looking quickly at eBay sold listings... Iron Fist 14 CGC VG+ 4.5, recently sold for $73.00 and $99.00 each. Captain America 100 CGC FN- 5.5 sold for $218.00 and a FN 6.0 sold for $203.00 Captain America 103 CGC VF+ 8.5 sold for $62.00 https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions
  8. I cannot help with the issues you are looking for but I just wanted to say... I feel for you, it was this kind of craziness back in the 90's with the Onslaught storyline then the Rebirth of the Characters/Titles that made me stop buying/reading new issues each month, you needed to buy 10 different titles just to keep up!!! Hope you find what you are looking for and enjoy what you buy!!!
  9. IMO, if you are just getting started in the "hobby" there is no better reference material than the Overstreet Price Guide.
  10. Seems to me the buyer is extremely happy with his purchase, and that is what it is all about. Nice book, enjoy!!!
  11. To Complete your Runs before the end comes. What does Webster know about Comic Books? Not as of my 63rd birthday which was August 10. They kept pushing my buttons and after a few choice words I walked out.
  12. Jut to ad an answer in simple terms regarding your original question Just to add a simple answer... eBay Sold Listings, Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide, Auctions at My Comic Shop, Heritage, Comic Connect, Comic Link, etc. (You will need to know exactly what books you have and place a grade (or approx grade) on each before you can determine an approximate value.) https://comics.ha.com/overstreet/comic-book-price-guide.s?type=google_overstreet price guide_nid-g-cid-283263975812-mt-e-device-c-ap-1t1-dm--clksrc-kw-cmpnid-1021425543-adgpid-49727158989-fditm--locphys-9003849&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIvdilrM613QIVR18NCh0o0Aj5EAAYASAAEgJy1vD_BwE https://www.amazon.com/Overstreet-Comic-Book-Price-Guide/dp/1603602216 https://comics.ha.com/tutorial/comics-grading.s?show=comicdefinitions https://www.comicconnect.com/ http://www.comiclink.com/Auctions/default.asp?Focused=1 https://comics.ha.com/?type=-COMICSHA.COM https://www.mycomicshop.com/?gclid=CLS_6I_Q8cUCFYYUHwodbhUAag
  13. Here is a "Kirby" signature on the splash page of my F.F. #8 if you would like to compare. It was there when I acquired this book some 35 years ago so I always "assumed" it was legit.
  14. No. the price guide lists prices for All comics, they use different covers each year and have different cover choices to choose from each year. https://previewsworld.com/Article/216087-Overstreet-Comic-Book-Price-Guide-48-Available-Now If you click on the link in my first post you will see you can purchase the price guide for download rather than buying a paper copy, me, I like having the book in hand but I am an old guy. You can find paper copies on eBay, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, etc.
  15. The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide has been in existence for 48 years and although it is generally out of date on "current hot items" by the time on it is published it is still used by the majority of collectors and dealers alike for listing/selling/buying books. https://comics.ha.com/overstreet/comic-book-price-guide.s?type=google_%2Boverstreet %2Bprice %2Bguides_nid-g-cid-283263975359-mt-b-device-c-ap-1t1-dm--clksrc-kw-cmpnid-1021425540-adgpid-49727156109-fditm--locphys-9003849&gclid=EAIaIQobChMItaWsxZWu3QIVzYuzCh0S0Qg4EAAYASAAEgJffvD_BwE The best way to get an idea of what a book is worth/selling for "now" is to check eBay sold "Auction" listings for the book in question. Look for books in the same/or close to grade as yours and check over the last few month's to get an average idea.
  16. Classic covers... I have posted this before and will post it again, these are the books that got me hooked on Marvel Comics. When I first saw the cover to #25 I was like...WOW!!!
  17. I keep the handles outward and if the boxes are full I lift from the bottom of the box and not by the handles.

  19. If you want serious answers from the members here you need to supply more info on what you are trying to sell so they know you are serious. A few pics would not hurt either.
  20. For boxes that are not full I use old towels folded up to take up the slack.
  21. After I posted I found/saw his other thread.
