  1. very nice appeal Tom! :) BTW, Tec 35 is dated January 1940, but I've seen arrival dates on a few covers for Dec 1939; as we know books were out 1-3 months prior to cover month :)

Good point. (thumbs u Still, I have to have grandiose statements like "last Batman appearance of the 1930s" resonating in my head when making a four-figure buy. lol

  2. The early Tecs are scarce, special books. They have a small fervent following, and are not cheap. Not the best place to park 20 to 50K in my opinion. But if you rule out the $$$ aspects, they must be a lot of fun to track down and assemble. And have done pretty well value wise. But not in the same league as superhero keys for instance.

20k sounds conservative, if we're talking about a run of books. The Tec 1 (unrestored and slabbed 2.5) cost me 14k all by itself, and by all accounts that was a reasonable deal.

I think you got a great deal. Right now Metropolis has two Detective #1's a unrestored 5.0 for $39,000 and a restored 5.5 for $14,500, I wonder what a copy in like 7.5 would fetch

Good question---no idea! That 5.0 is pretty but I'm turned off by the tape.

  4. Thanks to a fellow boardie and an amazingly nice guy for these awesome books...the Weird Terror is a 9.0 River City with OW/W pages and easily one of my favorite pre-code horror covers, very underrated IMO

I'll miss these gems, but Im very glad they went to a good home. :)

A 'Tec 1 is a heavy burden :sorry:

    Great book!!!

Is this the one from ebay that had a couple of threads talking about it from that estate auction?

Good deal... you waited for the right time, congrats on a big book... (thumbs u

Yep, this is the same copy. The previous owner bought it in that auction.

Thanks for the congrats. :) Having this book in hand is wonderfully surreal.

  7. Ok, I promised no more book-buying for a long time after that Tec 1 purchase, and I'm keeping my promise. This book was bought some time ago but I asked Adam (Filter) to hold it for me while I was traveling. It landed safely today.

Thanks for the great book, sir!
