Two books I can't afford.
-
-
Wonder who nabbed it. This was a boardie's book--congrats to him!
-
very nice appeal Tom! BTW, Tec 35 is dated January 1940, but I've seen arrival dates on a few covers for Dec 1939; as we know books were out 1-3 months prior to cover month
Good point. (thumbs u Still, I have to have grandiose statements like "last Batman appearance of the 1930s" resonating in my head when making a four-figure buy.

That is a NICE GA 6.5
Books like this really tempt me to cross over to the Golden side sooner rather than later.
Nah, don't do it, GA sucks. And I don't need the competition.

This just in this afternoon.
-
Wow, great stash there, Ankur! I'll nab a 31 someday, maybe...
So I picked this up a little bit ago but it took some time for the transaction to go through. Book just landed this afternoon. I'm very pleased with it. So here's the very last Batman appearance of the 1930s...

FINALLY! Wish it were the higher graded copy but this will do for now...
A 9.0!!? What a beater!
-
And, Kenny was nice enough to send my the finest copy of Action #1 I've ever owned...
Love it!
-
I've let about five Tec 29s slip through my fingers in the 3.0 to 5.0 range over the years but I'm glad that I finally landed a nice copy.
-
Great pics! You guys are really making me crave another pre-hero Tec pick-up...
-
The early Tecs are scarce, special books. They have a small fervent following, and are not cheap. Not the best place to park 20 to 50K in my opinion. But if you rule out the $$$ aspects, they must be a lot of fun to track down and assemble. And have done pretty well value wise. But not in the same league as superhero keys for instance.
20k sounds conservative, if we're talking about a run of books. The Tec 1 (unrestored and slabbed 2.5) cost me 14k all by itself, and by all accounts that was a reasonable deal.
I think you got a great deal. Right now Metropolis has two Detective #1's a unrestored 5.0 for $39,000 and a restored 5.5 for $14,500, I wonder what a copy in like 7.5 would fetch
Good question---no idea! That 5.0 is pretty but I'm turned off by the tape.

Thanks for the congrats on the Tec 1.
I'm now strongly considering a modest run of early Tecs. The market for them is small, I gather.

Thanks to a fellow boardie and an amazingly nice guy for these awesome books...the Weird Terror is a 9.0 River City with OW/W pages and easily one of my favorite pre-code horror covers, very underrated IMO
These are fantastic!
I'll miss these gems, but Im very glad they went to a good home.
A 'Tec 1 is a heavy burden
No need to feel bad for me.

A birth-year book for me (1954)...and one of my favorite covers of all time...
Underrated classic book. The consummate drug use cover ever. Awesome!
+1 Underrated and undervalued, IMHO. Nice grab!
-
I truly think that if tec 27 had the 31 cover instead alongside the origin of 33 and cameo out before action comics 1. It would be the holy grail by far.
-
The Bethlehem copy of Weird Tales of the Future 3 NM 395.00, not to mention all the others... wow... What year did this ad come out?
NM Dark Mysteries 1 for $300, wow.....I sold my NM- for $2200 a few years back.
Of course, an "NM" in the ad might be a CGC 8.0.

Found this clunker by the side of the road while taking the dog out with the pooper scooper. Didn't think it was worth the effort to bend over and pick it up, but I just hate litter--that's how I roll. Really, can't people be more careful with their trash?
-
This is no Detective 1 (what a killer pickup), but it's nothing to sneeze at either!
Very nice. Great page quality, too.
-
My Phantom Lady #17, now slabbed!
Kudos to John Verzyl, who offered to take this charmer to Chicago for on-site grading.
-
I spammed this all over the gold forum. Time for general.
Great book!!!
Is this the one from ebay that had a couple of threads talking about it from that estate auction?
Good deal... you waited for the right time, congrats on a big book... (thumbs u
Yep, this is the same copy. The previous owner bought it in that auction.
Thanks for the congrats. Having this book in hand is wonderfully surreal.

Ok, I promised no more book-buying for a long time after that Tec 1 purchase, and I'm keeping my promise. This book was bought some time ago but I asked Adam (Filter) to hold it for me while I was traveling. It landed safely today.
Thanks for the great book, sir!
