  1. There are some pieces I am willing to consign that I expect will be a loss, so it is a matter of whether I think a different piece is more desirable or if I personally value it more.
  2. New Goal: attempt to avoid Mandel pieces on Heritage. Likelihood of success: highly unlikely
  3. I just spent 5x+ my normal budget on a piece, but it was totally worth it. Every so often a piece comes along that is a total dream, and I make the decision to push my chips. I can maybe do this once a year if I'm REALLY lucky, but ultimately it requires selling other pieces I love on the back end. What I will say is I have not regretted doing this yet. Usually I find greater enjoyment in the bigger "premier" piece than I do in several smaller pieces. YMMV
  4. I submitted. Here are my 2023 entries: https://www.comicartfans.com/gallerybestofyr.asp?yr=2023&gcat=140502
  5. Haha! I remember when I got into the hobby a few years ago and first came across that site. It was a time warp, and I thought I may need to look for an AOL disc in my mailbox to get me another month of free internet.
  6. For those that don’t know, DS is deadstock. It is a mint, unworn sneaker.
  7. That’s a pretty impressive hammer price. Wowza!
  8. I think it’s more of an ongoing joke. BWS is amazing. While Conan is a little before my time, I can get down with some Weapon X and Valiant era.
  9. From what I researched a few years back, this was due to a flame retardant chemical being applied to certain safes quite a while back. It doesn't seem to be a current issue from what I've found.
  10. Totally agree with this. When I’m trying to win multiple pieces at the same time, my mind simply isn’t built for it. I recall the last CC auction in which I participated, I was juggling between two items and completely missed the third item I wanted pop up and end low as I was focused on the others and missed it altogether. It was a turnoff for me personally, but I can also see why others enjoy that format.
  11. But I thought there are no cats in America... Congrats on some nice value pickups!
  12. Yeah, I was born in 1980, so the NSX came out when I was first falling in love with cars. Such a dream for my friends and I. It was very fun to make it a reality, but in the end, I purchased pages from Marvel Spotlight #5 with the proceeds which easily increase in value at a much higher rate. I figure I can always sell a page or two and buy another NSX if I really missed it that much. My friends thought I was crazy at the time of selling the Acura though.
  13. After several years of squeezing every dollar into comic art, this year I finally purchased a few other toys that brought joy to my everyday life in the form or two new guitars. During the pandemic I sold a lot of my guitar collection and even a 90s Acura NSX in order to move all funds into art. I don't regret it for a second, but I also decided to take a breath and recoup some of the things I gave up along the way.
  14. Another reason I like the Marvel Snap card art another member suggested. I’m on that 🚂. Toot toot.
  15. Thanks! I was totally playing. I work for a Bank so it’s a rather ridiculous joke thrown around. The epitome of cliche. 😂
  16. It’s pretty wild. It would be so interesting to have a record of all the alterations by various dealers over the years. When I first heard art had been modified, enhanced, or altered I was stunned. Fast forward a few years, and some of the horror stories that surface are mind blowing.
  17. Yeah, I can’t wait to see where that ends.
  18. I remember thinking at one point early on, “Can you imagine owning 10 key pieces of original art?” Fast forward a few years and five portfolios later… However, like Michael above, I do regularly flip through the art I store in portfolios and enjoy them immensely. A few pieces are on loan to different exhibits, and I also love seeing these on display in a public setting so many more may enjoy them. I love watching the reactions of others when they engage with these pieces for the first time. Such a cool experience!
  19. Let’s get back to arguing the the merits of BWS Conan pages. 😂
  20. I think the auction was actually quite decent. We saw a TOS39 page hit $336k, which I believe is a new record. Additionally the McFarlane Spidey 11 page broke beyond its recent sales price as did the Bagley ASM 374 page. Miller DK promo hit $210k. The Jim Lee section was bananas in terms of price. Overall, I believe the prices were very 💪.
  21. Always interested in history from a learning perspective.
