  1. I think the auction was actually quite decent. We saw a TOS39 page hit $336k, which I believe is a new record. Additionally the McFarlane Spidey 11 page broke beyond its recent sales price as did the Bagley ASM 374 page. Miller DK promo hit $210k. The Jim Lee section was bananas in terms of price. Overall, I believe the prices were very 💪.
  2. Always interested in history from a learning perspective.
  3. I love it. Will do in the future. I use your site pretty regularly.
  4. I feel like I need a tutorial on Hake's. I can never seem to find items on their site.
  5. Funny. I thought the same thing. I told a buddy who almost bid due to perceived value that it was like buying a designer item that doesn’t fit. Buying the brand but not really what you’re after.
  6. I’ll chime in from a newer or modern collector point of view. 1. Liefeld Captain America - while this cover is used often to try to knock down Liefeld he has a great sense of humor about it. In my opinion, this is one of the top 5 memorable pieces from Rob (whether good or bad). When I think of Liefeld I think of the following: New Mutants 87, New Mutants 98, New Mutants 100, X-Force 1, and Cap’s Boobs. If there were a Liefeld exhibit, this is one I’d want to see in-person just because of how prominent it has become on social media. Obviously it has been blasted a million times over, but we all know this piece. 2. Invincible - some of the comments in the thread are clear indicators many collectors stopped reading in the 80s/90s. This is not a knock, but just a reality. I personally look at BWS Conan like many here look at Invincible. That said, this is one of the most relevant, modern pieces in the auction from my perspective. Created by Robert Kirkman (Walking Dead), the series was adapted as an animated series for Amazon Prime and has been wildly popular. Walking Dead, The Boys, and Invincible were all massive successes for mainstream culture. The page today that went for over $30k was arguably the best in the first issue for reasons previously posted by others. To put it into perspective, a 9.8 graded copy of Invincible #1 sells for mid $3k range in today’s market, so the best original page from this highly desirable issue at a multiple of 10x isn’t unreasonable. I’m not trying to start a debate on comparing comics to OA but it would be foolish to deny any correlation, especially on the modern front where new entrants into the market largely migrate from books to art. Also, I didn’t win the page myself but sure wish I owned it.
  7. @Rick2you2 Well written. Likely a combo of many things as you mentioned. I also believe we saw auction after auction with incredible pieces followed by a little bit of a slump in terms of quality. There are several excellent pieces in this auction that I think will do extremely well.
  8. I don't know if it's just me, but I wish there was a way to sort out all unpublished pieces. I felt like this year had an increase in commissions and "amateur art", so I would not be surprised to see a lower % sold figure based on this alone. My strategy as a seller was to list a few massive pieces for "dream prices", a lot of mid tier stuff for just above market, then lower tier stuff at or below market. I ended up selling three pieces total. One was under market based on a similar comp, the other two were last minute offers at significantly reduced prices sent out to those who had my pieces saved. I'm glad art is circulating and hope the new owners truly enjoy the pieces they purchased. It was a fun event, but I'm not sure the juice was worth the squeeze for me this time around. As a buyer I typically find 1-2 pieces I REALLY want. This year, there wasn't anything that grabbed me. As a seller, the time to scan and list didn't justify my involvement. I'll likely sit the next one out and see how it goes. Having this one right before big Heritage and ComicLink auctions may have also changed the dynamic with would-be buyers holding cash for auction dreams.
  9. I agree on the CRE side. I work in that space, and companies want their people to be back at the office instead of remote. Because the labor market has cooled and several companies have had layoffs, prospective employees can’t be as demanding about work from home as in the past two years.
  10. I continue to fail in epic fashion. Who knew people would get scared and continue to unearth insane pieces?
  11. @delekkerste Awesome pics! Looks like a good time. I love seeing pockets of collectors like this. It will be interesting to see if all these groups collide in Orlando comes January. Could be fun and interesting.
  12. I'm hearing from a ton of people... friends, artists and reps, that prices were VERY strong in NYCC and cash was flowing. Congrats to everyone who partook! Going to be interesting to see how the next Heritage pricing unfolds. Some awesome pieces in there!
  13. I love that pic! Rob is hilarious, and I am glad he has a good sense of humor and can laugh about it. He even did a recent podcast on his show Robservations called "Cap's Boobs".
  14. Agreed. If you are not convinced by your own gut, just let it go. I have little doubt it will sell well. Jae is still a very in-demand cover artist, especially with his Something Is Killing the Children covers.
  15. I have purchased Frank’s art through Steve before. He does sell as other’s have mentioned.
  16. Wow! Any guesses on hammer? $200k?
  17. Thanks all! Truly a blast putting those shoes together. This round was cool for me as several of those pages were from books I have been hunting since I started collecting art. So satisfying to finally land them!
  18. Good morning, all! I sent off my scans to Bill yesterday for our show tonight! The show will start at 6pm PST. Come join us!
  19. Thanks for bringing us back on track! 😂 I haven’t been keeping up with the shows but did catch an amateur one a little while back and grabbed a piece for my collection. I personally find the non-dealer shows tend to have a greater chance of offering pieces I’m after with prices more in line with my mental market values.
  20. Thanks all! In other news, Rose City has been fun! Some solid artists and creators here this year. Great to see this con really begin to rebound! A good size crew of us will be hanging around the con today, so feel free to hit me up if you’d like to meet some other art collectors!
  21. Haha! We are happy to oblige. I’m actually very excited to share the pieces I grabbed as there is something for everyone. I think some will inspire budget friendly collectors with a newer idea that I stole from this very forum and others will appeal to the Saudi Princes of the world.
